Jewish Group: Zuckerberg Tries to Clarify Remarks About Holocaust Deniers After Outcry

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/07/18/technology/mark-zuckerberg-facebook-holocaust-denial.html

Mark Zuckerberg, the Facebook chief executive, said in an interview published Wednesday that he would not automatically remove denials that the Holocaust took place from the site, a remark that caused an uproar online.

Mr. Zuckerberg’s comments were made during an interview with the tech journalist Kara Swisher that was published on the site Recode. (Read the full transcript here.) Hours later, Mr. Zuckerberg tried to clarify his comments in an email to Recode.

In the interview, Mr. Zuckerberg had been discussing what content Facebook would remove from the site, and noted that in countries like Myanmar and Sri Lanka, the dissemination of hate speech can have immediate and dire consequences. Moments earlier, he had also defended his company’s decision to allow content from the conspiracy site Infowars to be distributed on Facebook.

“The principles that we have on what we remove from the service are: If it’s going to result in real harm, real physical harm, or if you’re attacking individuals, then that content shouldn’t be on the platform,” he said.

eta: Further down in the article, Zuckerberg says he is Jewish, finds Holocaust denial deeply offensive but doesn't think the HD advocates are "intentionally getting it wrong". Huh ?!

"(Trump) also hailed Putin's offer for Russian law enforcement officials to interrogate the....

The US President also hailed Putin's offer for Russian law enforcement officials to interrogate the Russian agents indicted by the special counsel Robert Mueller as "incredible," an offer that would effectively give Russia oversight and influence of part of a US investigation into Russian state activities. Putin had also said the offer would be reciprocal.

Top Republicans in Congress break with Trump over Putin comments

https://www.cnn.com/2018/07/16/politics/congress-reaction-trump-putin-comments/index.html

After President Donald Trump's stunning news conference Monday next to Russian President Vladimir Putin, members of Congress -- including some powerful Republicans -- were quick to rebuke Trump's performance on the world stage and Trump's refusal to call Putin out for interfering in the US election.

House Speaker Paul Ryan contradicted several comments Trump made during his Helsinki news conference, most notably backing the US intelligence community assessment that Russia meddled with the US 2016 presidential election.

"There is no question that Russia interfered in our election and continues attempts to undermine democracy here and around the world," said Ryan, a Republican from Wisconsin, in a statement. "That is not just the finding of the American intelligence community but also the House Committee on Intelligence."

Ryan continued, "The president must appreciate that Russia is not our ally. There is no moral equivalence between the United States and Russia, which remains hostile to our most basic values and ideals. The United States must be focused on holding Russia accountable and putting an end to its vile attacks on democracy."

more including Cornyn and Sasse and others.

OK Republicans, time to impeach this traitor.

British tabloid hits Trump for sitting in Churchill's chair: 'How dare you'

http://thehill.com/homenews/media/397024-british-tabloid-hits-trump-for-sitting-in-churchills-chair-how-dare-you

https://twitter.com/DailyMirror/status/1017875935671046144

British tabloid the Daily Mirror used its front page on Saturday to hit President Trump for sitting in former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill’s chair.

“How dare you,” the headline on the Mirror’s front page reads over an image of Trump striking a pose in the chair.

“You insult our country, attack our [National Health Service], embarrass our Queen, undermine our ‘special relationship,’ humiliate our [prime minister]…and then smugly pose in Winston Churchill’s armchair,” the front page states.

The Mirror also published a report quoting British Labour leaders criticizing the image of Trump sitting in Churchill’s armchair, which White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders tweeted out on Thursday.

President Trump keeps Queen Elizabeth waiting outside for several minutes before meeting

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/ny-ent-president-trump-meets-queen-elizabeth-20180713-story.html

God Save the Queen’s time.

President Trump kept Queen Elizabeth II waiting outside for several minutes before he arrived for their meeting at Windsor Castle. The 92-year-old English leader appeared to check her watch as she waited for Trump and First Lady Melania, who made it the castle at around 5 p.m. local time.

It’s considered protocol for guests of the Queen to arrive early — not simply on time — for their meetings with the British royal, as detailed by British etiquette experts Debrett’s.

A number of viewers who watched a livestream of Trump’s arrival on television were critical of the President of keeping the Queen waiting.

He's such an inconsiderate asshole. The Queen is 92 years old and, um, she's the QUEEN of the UK.

British Lawmakers Fume at 'Repulsive' Trump Attack on May

https://www.thedailybeast.com/british-lawmakers-fume-at-repulsive-trump-attack-on-may

It's the diplomatic equivalent to being invited for dinner at someone's house and committing arson. British lawmakers have united across party lines to condemn Donald Trump on the first day of his trip to the country after he suggested prime minister Theresa May has ruined Brexit and tipped her arch rival, Boris Johnson, to be an excellent leader. Conservative member of parliament Sarah Wollaston said Trump was “determined to insult” May and added: “The divisive, dog-whistle rhetoric in his Sun interview is repulsive. If signing up to the Trump world view is the price of a deal, it’s not worth paying.” Ben Bradshaw, Labour member of parliament, wrote: “Our prime minister is so weak she still rolls out the red carpet for a man who does nothing but insult her. Humiliating.” Former leader of the Labour party Ed Miliband tweeted a link to a news story about Trump’s comment, and said: “The theory that if we are nice to Trump he’ll be nice to us doesn’t seem to be going brilliantly...” Trump is due to hold talks with May and the Queen Friday as a huge protest march, tipped to number tens of thousands of people, snakes its way through the streets of London

You Brit DU'ers have my sincere sympathies. After all, we usually have to cope with this fool.

Russian aircraft again violates Estonia's airspace near Vaindloo island

Source: The Baltic Times

TALLINN - A Russian aircraft on Thursday violated the Estonian airspace near the island of Vaindloo in the Gulf of Finland, marking the second time that a Russian aircraft violates the Estonian airspace this week.

An Ilyushin IL-96 aircraft belonging to Russia at about noon on Tuesday entered the Estonian airspace near the island of Vaindloo without permission, spokespeople at the headquarters of the Estonian defense forces told BNS. The aircraft spent less than a minute in Estonian airspace.

The plane's transponder was turned on, but it had not presented a flight plan. The aircraft had no radio contact with Estonian Air Navigation Services.

The Estonian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday summoned the Russian ambassador and handed him a diplomatic note. This is the fourth time that a Russian aircraft has made an unauthorized incursion into the Estonian airspace this year.

Hope this helps a few.

?resize=865%2C452

TOKYO (AP) — A Hello Kitty-themed “shinkansen” bullet train has debuted in Japan. Adorned with the cartoon icon inside and out, it’s a dream ride for fans of the internationally popular character.

The special shinkansen had its inaugural round trip Saturday between Osaka and Fukuoka, connecting Japan’s west and south. It will run through September.

The stylish, eight-car train is painted pink and white, showcasing Hello Kitty images and trademark ribbons from flooring to seat covers and windows.

In one car, a life-size Hello Kitty doll donning a train crew uniform and a hat — decorated with a pink bow, of course — greets passengers, offering a chance for selfies.
