Perineum sunning: a great new wellness trend (sarcasm off)

I mean, who comes up with insane ideas like this ?

https://www.businessinsider.com/the-real-effects-of-perineum-sunning-according-to-doctors-2019-11

eta: Just in case you're not up on perineum

The perineum is the space between the anus and scrotum in the male and between the anus and the vulva in the female.

Tucker Carlson says he supports the Russians, then says "oh I was joking"

https://twitter.com/NikkiMcR/status/1199135926955466753

Bullshit, Tucker. You don't get to say that. If anyone in the corporate media had said that prior to 2015, you would have fried them. Tucker DOES support the Russians, only if accidentally.

eta: Sorry, had wrong tweet. I only get Frank Luntz because I follow the never-Trumper Rick Wilson. Once sanity is restored to the White House aka a Democrat, I will un-follow Wilson and all the never-Trumpers.

MSNBC guest: No money changed hands so no bribery, Hunter Biden blah blah blah

I forget the name of this CPAC guest, but it seems like the defense has now shifted to "this was ATTEMPTED bribery, so no big deal" and of course throwing in Hunter Biden to muddy the waters.

I'll try to get the guest's name, give me a few minutes.

eta: Guest was Matt Slapp.

Never-Trumpers and the Democratic Party: why don't they join us ?

Is it because they're waiting for some new un-Trumpified Republican Party so they can resume lucrative careers as consultants, etc ?

Do they really believe in "Republican principles", whatever those are ?

It's really quite odd (but a tad refreshing) that they are the "enemies of my enemy".

Is the answer really simple, as in Republican $$$ ?

What's the current thinking of the damage from Brexit ?

The economic estimates I've read are 5 to 10% GDP damage. Huge backups at Calais-Dover. Lack of prescription medications and fresh food from the EU.

Are all those accurate, and what am I missing ? I have friends in the UK, as well as you good UK DU'ers, and I am concerned for you. Thanks in advance.

concerned Yank, Steve

Mystery grows over Trump administration hold on Lebanon aid

https://apnews.com/4bae0513e28647c59b74bcf51f7550a5

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration is withholding more than $100 million in U.S. military assistance to Lebanon that has been approved by Congress and is favored by his national security team, an assertion of executive control of foreign aid that is similar to the delay in support for Ukraine at the center of the impeachment inquiry.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Friday congratulated Lebanon as the country marked its independence day but made no mention of the hold-up in aid that State Department and Pentagon officials have complained about for weeks.

It came up in impeachment testimony by David Hale, the No. 3 official in the State Department, according to the transcript of the closed-door hearing released this week. He described growing consternation among diplomats as the administration would neither release the aid nor provide an explanation for the hold.

“People started asking: What’s the problem?” Hale told the impeachment investigators.

Not sure how many saw this on November 22nd, but here it is. Apologies to LBN hosts.

Mystery grows over Lebanon aid hold-up as impeachment looms

Exclusive: U.S. Navy secretary backs SEAL's expulsion review, despite Trump objection

Source: Reuters

HALIFAX, Nova Scotia (Reuters) - U.S. Navy Secretary Richard Spencer said on Friday a Navy SEAL convicted of battlefield misconduct should face a board of peers weighing whether to oust him from the elite force, despite President Donald Trump’s assertion that he not be expelled.

“I believe the process matters for good order and discipline,” Spencer told Reuters, weighing in on a confrontation between Trump and senior Navy officials over the outcome of a high-profile war-crimes case.

A military jury in July convicted Special Operations Chief Edward Gallagher of illegally posing for pictures with the corpse of an Islamic State fighter but acquitted him of murder in the detainee’s death. Gallagher also was cleared of charges that he deliberately fired on unarmed civilians.

Although spared a prison sentence, he was demoted in rank and pay grade for his conviction, which stemmed from a 2017 deployment in Iraq.

Why Fox News Slimed a Purple Heart Recipient

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/11/22/opinion/vindman-fox-news-.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share

In anticipation of Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman’s recent public testimony in the House’s impeachment inquiry, the Fox News host Laura Ingraham and a guest concocted an insulting fantasy on her show: the idea that Colonel Vindman might be a Ukrainian spy.

It may have shocked a lot of Americans that Fox News televangelists and establishment conservatives like John Yoo are spinning the “narrative” of the courageous Colonel Vindman — a man who put his country’s interests ahead of his own — into one that suggests, as an immigrant, he wasn’t loyal to the United States. But as a former Fox News opinion talk-show guest host and contributor for 14 years, it didn’t shock me.

I can explain the art and purpose behind throwing a Purple Heart veteran under the Fox News bus. First, we must talk about narratives. In my time at Fox News, narratives were weapons of mass emotional manipulation, what the Nobel laureate Robert J. Shiller defines in “Narrative Economics” as “contagious stories” — as he put it in a paper of the same name, “a simple story or easily expressed explanation of events that many people want to bring up in conversation or on news or social media because it can be used to stimulate the concerns or emotions of others, and/or because it appears to advance self-interest.” One recent report said that we find information or misinformation “22 times more memorable in narrative form.”

There’s little in this world that has the emotional manipulative power of a good tribalized — us versus them — narrative. It’s a contagion, and thanks to social media, or “participatory propaganda,” highly viral.
