I had an interesting dream last night about your state :)

To save democracy, I and about 500,000 other committed small d democrats moved to your state very quickly, near the Canadian border (we could not emigrate). Huge apartment buildings and condos had to be built, quickly to accommodate. Local officials were freaking out, of course. Being from Florida, I had to learn how to adapt to your winters.

Then I woke up in sub-tropical Florida and wondered if I would ever do that. Interesting, to say the least. Why North Dakota ? My best guess is, it was next to Canada and *maybe* friendly to democracy (in my dream thinking). I know we Democrats in ND are friendly to democracy. You citizens can tell me how the R's are.

Best wishes to you all, with the pandemic and the Trump Party and everything in general

GOP leaders’ embrace of Trump’s refusal to concede fits pattern of rising authoritarianism, data shows

https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2020/11/12/republican-party-trump-authoritarian-data/

It’s the latest sign of the party’s lurch away from democratic ideals and practices, a shift that predates Trump but one that has accelerated precipitously since. Now, according to data released by an international team of political scientists just before the Nov. 3 election, it’s possible to quantify the extent to which the Republican Party no longer adheres to such principles as the commitment to free and fair elections with multiple parties, the respectful treatment of political opponents and the avoidance of violent rhetoric.

“The Republican Party in the U.S. has retreated from upholding democratic norms in recent years,” said Anna Lührmann, a political scientist at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden and a former member of the German parliament. “Its rhetoric is closer to authoritarian parties, such as AKP in Turkey and Fidesz in Hungary.”

https://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-apps/imrs.php?src=&w=767

Lührmann is deputy director of the university’s V-Dem Institute, which compiled the data. For the project, researchers recruited more than 600 political scientists around the world to make annual assessments of political parties’ adherence to a number of key small-D democratic values.

Those assessments are combined into the main measure in the chart above, which tracks parties’ overall commitment to democracy. Lührmann points out that the Republican Party score started to edge downward during the Obama administration but fell off a cliff in 2016 with the ascent of Trump.

Bingo. This goes along with my views here: https://www.democraticunderground.com/1016276553

We small d and large D Democrats need to neutralize the toxic propaganda of FauxNews, OANN, etc

This is a recent example of their anti-democratic propaganda:

https://twitter.com/douglas_boyle/status/1326608821729554433

Until FauxNews, OANN, and the RW propaganda-verse are neutralized, we are at grave risk of losing our democracy. The Republican Party is no longer a valid option to our party. They are the Trump Party. They want POWER. Yea yea, in public, they want lower taxes for the wealthy, conservative judges, yada yada.... they want POWER. THEY ARE ANTI-DEMOCRATIC now.

The propaganda outlets are the FUEL for this anti-democratic movement afoot in America. If they, miraculously, changed their tune to be old school Republican nonsense, I could relax. We can deal with that. However, now, THEY ONLY WANT POWER AND A ONE-PARTY GOVERNMENT. It's extremely obvious to me. They will deny it until the cows come home, but the BS they are pulling along with McConnell's nonsense proves it.

I didn't use to feel this way. I thought that, despite their BS, the Republicans were democratic. Nope.

ETA: better link is

You can call in on Zoom. I have no guidance for you there.

Vote for America is the "sister project" (their words) of TLP. I think they are worth watching. IMHO, they really do want democracy to work.

I know some here hate them but.. they ARE on our side. For democracy. The minute they start attacking Democrats and aiding Republicans, trust me, I will rebuke them and leave them.
