marmar's JournalU.S. judge says Florida can't ban cruise ship's 'vaccine passport' program
Aug 8 (Reuters) - A U.S. judge has allowed Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. (NCLH.N)todemand that passengers show written proof of coronavirus vaccination before they board a ship, dealing a major blow to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis's effort to ban "vaccine passports."
In a preliminary ruling issued on Sunday, U.S. District Judge Kathleen Williams in Miami said Norwegian would likely prevail on its argument that the "vaccine passport" ban, signed into law by DeSantis in May, jeopardizes public health and is an unconstitutional infringement on Norwegian's rights.
The judge blocked DeSantis from enforcing the law against Norwegian, allowing the cruise ship operator to proceed with a plan to resume port activity in Miami on Aug. 15. Violations of the law could have triggered a penalty of $5,000 per passenger, potentially adding up to millions of dollars per cruise. ..............................(more)

Michigan hospital cuts ties with Vikings QB Kirk Cousins over COVID-19 stance
(Detroit Free Press) HOLLAND Holland Hospital cut ties with Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins Friday afternoon after he had served as a spokesperson for the healthcare provider over the last several years.
Cousins, who recently declined to answer questions regarding his COVID-19 vaccination status, was reinstated to Minnesota's roster from its reserve/COVID-19 list Thursday. He was placed on the list after being in close contact with a player who tested positive. The Holland native said he has no issue cooperating with the NFL's COVID-19 protocols, but that getting the shot is a personal matter that he wants to keep private.
"I think the vaccination decision is a very private health matter for me, and I'm gonna keep it as such," Cousins said Thursday during a press conference."I'm going to be vigilant about avoiding a close contact. I've even thought about should I just set up literally plexiglass around where I sit, so that this can never happen again. I've thought about it, because I'm gonna do whatever it takes."
Holland Hospital released a statement Friday afternoon announcing the decision to move on from Cousins, who held a sponsorship agreement with the hospital. It said that while it appreciates the work Cousins has done for the hospital over the years, they need to be sure anybody speaking on behalf of Holland Hospital is in lockstep with its position on vaccinations. ..........(more)

A light rail line to Houston's Hobby Airport could be one step closer to reality
Aug. 5A new light rail line to Hobby Airport could be one step closer to reality as the Senate sets a vote on President Joe Biden's $1 trillion infrastructure plan.
The massive Metro Next bond approved by voters in 2019 is supposed to expand transit all around Houston, Harris County and smaller cities, but few of the planned projects have come to fruition yet planning routes, conducting environmental studies and coordinating with community members takes time, after all.
When the plan was passed, voters gave the thumbs up for the Metropolitan Transit Authority to borrow up to $3.5 billion to improve local bus routes, create more regional networks and, yes, extend several light rail lines.
In its plans, Metro wants to extend the Green and Purple lines south to the airport, as well as west to Houston's municipal courts building. The department also wishes to extend the Red line to North Shepherd Drive. ..................(more)

Vaccine skeptics and anti-maskers are sucking down horse paste promoted by Trump's 'alien DNA' doc
Vaccine skeptics and anti-maskers are instead sucking down horse paste the latest snake-oil "miracle cure" once they become sick with COVID-19, resulting in an increase in calls to poison control centers, the Daily Beast reported Friday.
The horse paste contains ivermectin, which is normally used to treat parasites in humans and livestock but is now being prescribed by quack doctors and promoted in online forums as the latest version of the Trumpian drug hydroxychloroquine.
One of the groups behind the ivermectin craze is America's Frontline Doctors, the Trump-promoted Texas group that includes accused Capitol insurrectionist Dr. Simone Gold and "alien DNA" specialist Dr. Stella Immanuel.
"Devotees have besieged pharmacists with prescriptions from shady online prescribers, forcing pharmacies to crack down and treat the antiparasitic drugs like opioids," the Daily Beast reports. "As human-approved ivermectin prescriptions have been harder to come by, enthusiasts have taken to raiding rural tractor supply stores in search of ivermectin horse paste (packed with 'apple flavor!') and weighed the benefits of taking ivermectin 'sheep drench' and a noromectin 'injection for swine and cattle.'" ...........(more)

Its a rule. Its not a political statement. Its not me taking your rights away. Its not me asserting my will on you.
This reminder for us all to behave ourselves during air travel comes courtesy of a Southwest Airlines pilot who must be as sick as anybody of unruly passengers disrupting flights over airlines mask rules.

Trump urges supporters to buy misspelled "membership" cards with image resembling Nazi logo
https://twitter.com/ProjectLincoln/status/1423336029541617666?s=20
Former President Donald Trump reportedly encouraged supporters in an email Wednesday to help choose a design for a "membership" card, meant to signal the holder's loyalty to Trump and his "America First" vision.
But people quickly noticed a few problems with the designs the word "official" was misspelled on one, and another featured an eagle logo that bore an uncanny resemblance to the Nazi eagle emblem first used by the party in 1920s Germany.
The call to action was included in at least two emails sent by Trump's Save America PAC, according to Insider, which first reported the news.
"We recently met with the President in his Florida office and showed him four designs," one read. "Originally we were planning on releasing just one design, but when President Trump saw the cards on his desk, he said, 'These are BEAUTIFUL. We should let the American People decide - they ALWAYS know best!'" ...............(more)
