Kompromat:
Manafort Was in Debt to Pro-Russia Interests, Cyprus Records Show
Financial records filed last year in the secretive tax haven of Cyprus, where Paul J. Manafort kept bank accounts during his years working in Ukraine and investing with a Russian oligarch, indicate that he had been in debt to pro-Russia interests by as much as $17 million before he joined Donald J. Trumps presidential campaign in March 2016.
The money appears to have been owed by shell companies connected to Mr. Manaforts business activities in Ukraine when he worked as a consultant to the pro-Russia Party of Regions. The Cyprus documents obtained by The New York Times include audited financial statements for the companies, which were part of a complex web of more than a dozen entities that transferred millions of dollars among them in the form of loans, payments and fees.
The records, which include details for numerous loans, were certified as accurate by an accounting firm as of December 2015, several months before Mr. Manafort joined the Trump campaign, and were filed with Cyprus government authorities in 2016. The notion of indebtedness on the part of Mr. Manafort also aligns with assertions made in a court complaint filed in Virginia in 2015 by the Russian oligarch, Oleg V. Deripaska, who claimed Mr. Manafort and his partners owed him $19 million related to a failed investment in a Ukrainian cable television business.
After The Times shared some of the documents with representatives of Mr. Manafort, a spokesman, Jason Maloni, did not dispute that the debts might have existed at one time. But he maintained that the Cyprus records were stale and do not purport to reflect any current financial arrangements.

Trump ends covert CIA program to arm anti-Assad rebels in Syria, a move sought by Moscow
By Greg Jaffe and Adam Entous July 19 at 2:52 PM
President Trump has decided to end the CIAs covert program to arm and train moderate Syrian rebels battling the government of Bashar al-Assad, a move long sought by Russia, according to U.S. officials.
The program was a central plank of a policy begun by the Obama administration in 2013 to put pressure on Assad to step aside, but even its backers have questioned its efficacy since Russia deployed forces in Syria two years later.
Officials said the phasing out of the secret program reflects Trumps interest in finding ways to work with Russia, which saw the anti-Assad program as an assault on its interests. The shuttering of the program is also an acknowledgment of Washingtons limited leverage and desire to remove Assad from power.

Place this in the "interesting" file.
An AP congressional correspondent posted that "Sen Rubio currently has a three-member security detail. This is not normally the case."
She has now deleted the tweet, but I saw it while still up.

Adam Schiff Drops A Bombshell By Showing How Trump Knew About Russia Collusion
By Jason Easley on Sun, Jul 16th, 2017 at 9:54 am
House Intelligence Committee ranking member Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) pointed to a canceled Trump speech during the campaign that was supposed to be about Clinton at around the time Trump Jr. was meeting with Russians as a possible indication that Trump knew about Russia collusion.
House Intelligence Committee ranking member Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) pointed to a canceled Trump speech during the campaign that was supposed to be about Clinton at around the time Trump Jr. was meeting with Russians as a possible indication that Trump knew about Russia collusion.
Schiff listened to Trumps lawyer appear before him on ABCs This Week and said:
What I take away from his discussion with you is two things. Two points he wants to make. First, the President didnt know, and second, even if he did, theres no crime here. Now, to believe that though we have to rely on two things. We have to rely on Don Jr.s representation of what happened in that meeting, and weve already seen many times, of course, we cant rely on that because first, he said no such meeting ever happened, and then he said the meeting was about adoptions, and then he admitted that the meeting was about getting information on Hillary Clinton, and then he wasnt forthcoming about who was in the meeting, so we cant accept anything Don Jr. says, and of course, we cant accept much that the President says about this either because he has a similar record of not being forthcoming when it comes to Russia.
And indeed, if you look at the Presidents statements around this time, he announces a speech hes going to give where he is going to give the dirt on Hillary Clinton that he then cancels. Now that would corroborate that Don Jr. didnt get the information he was hoping for, but of course, it contradicts the idea that he was unaware.

Comeys Writing a Book, and Publishers Are Eager to Pay Big Money for It
Source: New York Times
James B. Comey, the former F.B.I. director who was fired in May by President Trump, is writing a book about his experience in public service, including his tumultuous and brief tenure in the Trump administration.
Mr. Comey has been meeting with editors and publishers in New York in recent days, and is being represented by Keith Urbahn and Matt Latimer, partners at the literary agency Javelin. The book is expected to go to auction this coming week, and all the major publishing houses have expressed keen interest, Mr. Latimer said.
The book will not be a conventional tell-all memoir, but an exploration of the principles that have guided Mr. Comey through some of the most challenging moments of his legal career. Among those are his investigation into Hillary Clintons private email server during a contentious election, and his recent entanglement with the president over the F.B.I.s inquiry into Russias interference in the 2016 election.
Its a book about leadership and his search for truth, informed by lessons and experiences hes had throughout his career, including his recent experiences in the Trump administration, said Mr. Latimer, whose agency also represents Tucker Carlson and Donna Brazile. It will speak to a broader desire in our country for more ethical leadership.

Trump campaign paid lawyer now representing son $50,000 in June
Source: Reuters
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Donald Trump's presidential re-election campaign made a $50,000 payment in June to the law office now representing Donald Trump Jr. more than a week before revelations that the president's son had met with a Russian lawyer during the campaign.
The payment to the Law Offices of Alan S. Futerfas, dated June 27, was disclosed in a filing with the Federal Election Commission on Saturday. It was described as covering "legal consulting" fees. Separately, the campaign also paid Jones Day, the law firm that represented Trump's campaign during the election.
Spokesmen for Trump's re-election campaign and Futerfas could not be immediately reached for comment.

The campaign also paid $89,561 to The Trump Corporation for "legal consulting." The company, owned by the president, is not a law firm. They payment was dated June 30th

It's almost like they knew those pesky emails saying they met with Russian spies were about to a big news story. Guess what! They were.
Yeah, this is a big ole nothing burger. Please pass the fries.

Dems want scrutiny of ***Ivanka Trump*** over Kushners Russian contacts
Congressional Democrats raising questions about Jared Kushners campaign contacts with Russia are beginning to ask: What did Ivanka Trump know, and when?
President Donald Trumps daughter and senior aide has largely escaped scrutiny while Kushner, her husband, has faced intensifying questions about his failure to disclose meetings with Russian officials and associates during the 2016 campaign and transition to the White House.
Those questions exploded this week, amid revelations that Kushner attended a Trump Tower meeting arranged by the presidents son, Donald Trump Jr. with officials purporting to have damaging information from the Russian government on Hillary Clinton.
Ivanka Trump, like Kushner, applied for a security clearance this past spring and as a result, she was required to disclose not only her own foreign contacts, but those of her spouse and siblings as well.
