Trump's trade war is wrecking America's farm economy

https://www.latimes.com/business/hiltzik/la-fi-hiltzik-trump-trade-farmers-20190510-story.html

Farm prices are down, bankruptcies are up, farm equipment is getting more expensive and export markets are fading away: Is there anything to like about the impact President Trump has had on the agricultural economy of the United States?

It’s no secret that the nation’s agricultural midsection has been a haven of support for Trump. But it also has been pummeled by his policies, not least among them his truculent trade war with some of the farm belt’s most important export markets, such as China.

Last November, Chinese soybean imports from the U.S. fell to zero. That’s a big hit, since American soybean farmers export half their crop and China was their largest single market, buying $12 billion of the commodity in 2017.

The pain in the fields is beginning to intensify. Farm bankruptcies in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Montana and the Dakotas have spiked in the last two years, reaching 103 in 2018, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis. That’s the highest level since 2010, during the post-recession hangover. “This trend has not yet seen a peak,” the Minneapolis Fed said in November.

CNN The US just raised tariffs on Chinese goods. China says it will hit back

https://www.cnn.com/2019/05/10/business/china-us-tariffs-trade/index.html

Hong Kong (CNN Business)The United States has escalated its trade war with China, hiking tariffs on $200 billion worth of Chinese exports hours after trade talks held in Washington failed to produce a breakthrough.

Tariffs on the targeted exports increased from 10% to 25% at 12:01 a.m. ET on Friday, prompting a swift rebuke from Beijing.

The Chinese government expressed "deep regret over the development" and pledged to take "necessary countermeasures."

"We hope the United States will meet us halfway, and work with us to resolve existing issues through cooperation and consultation," China's Ministry of Commerce said in a statement. The ministry did not give specifics on how it would respond.

Daily Kos: Remember when the House voted 420-0 to demand release of entire Mueller report?

Yup, on March 14 of (***checks calendar***) … oh! … this year! The House voted 420-0 to demand that the entire Mueller report be released. And it didn’t list conditions like, say, it can be released only if William Barr decides not to buy a time-share in Donald Trump’s sigmoid colon with Devin Nunes and Jerry Falwell Jr.

From the New York Times story at the time:

House Republicans joined Democrats on Thursday to demand that the Justice Department publicly release the full findings of the special counsel’s investigation into Russia’s interference in the 2016 election and the possible involvement of President Trump’s campaign.

Though the resolution is nonbinding, Democrats who put it on the House floor are trying to build public pressure on Attorney General William P. Barr before the investigation’s anticipated conclusion.

Far from standing in the way, Republicans joined Democrats en masse. On the 420-to-0 vote, four Republicans voted present.
So why is this suddenly a partisan quagmire? Hey, Ted Lieu wants to know, too.

Today, @HouseJudiciary is voting on whether to hold AG Bill Barr in contempt for refusing to deliver the full Mueller report to the American people.

Just wondering: what is the Trump Administration hiding from the American people?

So it was and still is all lies. None of this is new news too. He has been a successful con man.

Trump is not a billionaire.

He businesses lost money.

And he was kept afloat by Russian money so they could later use him and install him as President.

Russian money was even behind the Apprentice in order to sell phony meme that he was a big
successful billionaire businessman.

BTW none of this is new news because back when he was getting divorced from wife #1 Ivana
he could not come up with a couple of million in order to pay her off.

But he has been a successful con man.
