Lake Gitchegumee: Sea stack at Tettegouche toppled by powerful winter storm

Sea stack at Tettegouche toppled by powerful winter storm

An oft-photographed symbol of Minnesota's North Shore is no more, after this weekend's powerful winter storm toppled the sea stack at Tettegouche.

Minnesota Public Radio (MPR) News reports that the stack was all that remained of a naturally formed stone arch which connected the stack with a nearby cliff. The arch collapsed in 2010, leaving the stack standing alone.

Esquire's C. Pierce, "The Democratic Race Is Poorer for Losing Kamala Harris."

The Democratic presidential primary season hit its first major pivot point on Tuesday when California Senator Kamala Harris announced that she no longer had the resources to continue her campaign. Harris was a first-tier candidate when she launched her bid and remained one through most of the summer. Then, in the first debate, she dared call out friendly ol’ Joe Biden for the accommodations he’d made with the defenders of white supremacy in the decades since he first got to the Senate. (I mean, it’s OK to attend Strom Thurmond’s services, I guess, but you didn’t have to eulogize the old racist sonuvabitch.)

They can all tap-dance around this as much as they want to, but Harris’s audacity shook the comfort zones of a whole lot of people committed to the Democratic establishment, especially those with a history of complicity with the conservative movement. Couple that with the “Kamala Is A Cop” business coming from the portsiders, and Harris soon found that she didn’t have a lot of room to maneuver. Her visibility dropped to near-zero. Her fundraising dried up. And, unsurprisingly, since campaign operatives generally have the loyalty of gaboon vipers when things go south, stories blew up over the weekend about what a hopeless mess her campaign had become.

snip

Harris should still be in the race. She is a brilliant, accomplished woman who showed her leadership chops when she reduced Brett Kavanaugh to tears during his Senate confirmation hearings. (In fact, one of the only upsides to her decision that I can see is that now she’ll have all the time she needs to prep for her role in the Senate trial of El Caudillo del Mar-a-Lago.) She got screwed by the political system of legalized influence peddling that we were gifted by the Supreme Court. It has bothered me from the start that fundraising numbers were such an important metric for the DNC in deciding who should be on the stage and who shouldn’t. Harris qualified for the December 19 hoedown, but she couldn’t sustain her campaign until then. (Two whole weeks!) Instead, we’ll get Tom Steyer, but not Julian Castro. Tulsi Gabbard, but (probably) not Booker. How is this good for anyone? In what is arguably a populist moment, this is simply crazy.

Kamala Harris will still be a force. Right now, she has to be at the top of every vice-presidential shortlist. Any Democrat elected has to consider her for attorney general. And, once the Senate trial starts. she’ll likely get all the free airtime that she couldn’t get while running for president. In addition, she is the most important outstanding endorsement on the board right now. But the field is infinitely poorer without her, and completely out of touch with the actual dynamics of the 2020 election.

I might be wrong but Russian Bots were out big time working against Sen. Harris.

Twas a Month Before Christmas

Twas a month before Christmas and St. Schiff had been busy
And what he had done had now put Trump in a tizzy.

Devin was out in a field and eating some grass
as Gym Jordan was being a pain in the ass.

But up on Capital Hill there arose such a clatter
That Nancy P sprang up to see what was the matter

She opened her window and threw up the sash
and there was St. Schiff moving quite fast … almost in a dash

Adam then hung up his work with skill as he was humming
Nancy smiled because she knew an impeachment was coming

And around St. Schiff the people started to huddle
But Lindsey said, "They won’t understand 'cause they live in a Fox bubble."

But then St. Schiff smiled and gave a nod and wink
and said, “It is all right here you don’t even have to think

The case he laid out was air tight
Adam said, “Beware! The Truth is the people’s might.”

St. Schiff said, “You see Trump has broken the law.”
And in a nearby oak tree a crow started caw,
“It’s the law, It’s the law, It’s the law, It’s the law."

And with that the people started to dance and sing
We must, we must, we must find a bell to ring.

And then on its own some 125 miles away
The Liberty Bell started to clang all night and all day.

It is the law! It is the law!

From Nutball Land, Rep. Collins: "Schiff will be GOP's 'first and foremost witness' for impeachment.

Treasonous Bastards repeating Russian/Putin/GRU talking points.

"Schiff’s own interactions with Ukraine."

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/collins-schiff-will-be-gops-first-and-foremost-witness-for-impeachment-hearing

House Judiciary Committee ranking member Rep. Doug Collins, R-Ga., is gearing up for his committee’s role in the impeachment inquiry of President Trump, and the first witness he plans on calling is the man who led the first phase in the process, House Intelligence Committee Chairman Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif.

Schiff is in the middle of preparing a report on his committee’s findings after conducting closed-door interviews and public hearings featuring a number of current and former Trump administration officials connected to the administration’s policies and relationship with Ukraine. Republicans have questioned Schiff's credibility due to contact that an anonymous whistleblower had with his staff before filing a complaint which led to the impeachment inquiry, and now they want to question him before the Judiciary Committee.

snip

“My first and foremost witness is Adam Schiff,” Collins told “Fox News Sunday.” He claimed that if Schiff does not make himself available for questioning, it will reflect poorly on his credibility and the work he has done so far.

“If he chooses not to, then I really question his veracity and what he’s putting in his report. I question the motive of why he’s doing it,” Collins said. Collins specifically said he wants Schiff to discuss what he and his staff knew about the whistleblower’s complaint, and Schiff’s own interactions with Ukraine.

Daily Kos: Donald Trump was bailed out of bankruptcy by Russia crime bosses

Among the powerful facts that DNI missed were a series of very deep studies published in the [Financial Times] that examined the structure and history of several major Trump real estate projects from the last decade—the period after his seventh bankruptcy and the cancellation of all his bank lines of credit. ...

The money to build these projects flowed almost entirely from Russian sources. In other words, after his business crashed, Trump was floated and made to appear to operate a successful business enterprise through the infusion of hundreds in millions of cash from dark Russian sources.

He was their man.

snip

The Trump Organization was a hollow shell and Trump was bankrupt, but Donald Trump the public figure was a “successful businessman,” a screen behind which criminal activity could be carried out on a massive scale. Throwing his name at every scheme in existence wasn’t a strategy, it was a fire sale on Trump’s respectability. Steaks? Water? Vodka? Fake real estate school? You pony up the cash, and Trump will slap his name on it. Because by the early 2000s, Trump wasn’t just broke, he had nothing left to pawn. He wasn’t a successful businessman, but he still played one on TV. His image had more value than his real estate portfolio.

But the apartments and buildings where Trump held some degree of ownership could be turned into value again. All it took was partnering with foreign crime bosses looking for a place to stash their cash. To inflate the value of his portfolio, Trump had to do nothing other than look away as the dirty money poured in from one LLC to the next. Citizens in Russia, Kazakhstan, and other former Soviet states lost hundreds of millions, but Trump got a cut as looted funds flowed through offices and apartments in buildings that carried those critical gold letters.

Hillary is a class act

Oh what we have missed out on after the Russians installed Trump into the White House and yet Hillary
keeps right on working to help people.

T** --

Before you sit down and share a meal with loved ones today, I’d like to ask you to consider making a donation that will be evenly split among 12 groups working to protect children and families who have been affected by the administrations cruel border policies.

More than a year after the first reports of children being taken away from their parents at the border, there is still so much work to do, from reuniting families to making sure that those seeking asylum have the resources they need to navigate a complicated system.

Too often, it feels as though all we can do is read the news and be heartbroken. I’m grateful that, over and over again, this team has chosen to take action.

This Thanksgiving, please make a contribution to support 12 groups working on protecting and reuniting families at the border:

Thank you -- I hope your holiday is warm and wonderful,

Hillary

BTW if anybody wants to donate they can go to ... I am giving a little, wish it could be more.
