Black hole bonanza possible as immense gas cloud passes

Source: BBC News Science

A vast and hidden field of small black holes predicted to be near the centre of our galaxy could be revealed as a giant gas cloud passes by.

The G2 cloud is as large as our Solar System, and bound for a "supermassive" black hole at the Milky Way's core.

On the way, it should encounter many black holes just tens of km across.

A report in Physical Review Letters suggests they will spin and heat the gas, which will emit a spray of X-ray light that telescopes could see.

The cloud of gas - three times larger than Pluto's orbit but with a total mass just three times that of the Earth - was first spotted on its course toward the galaxy's centre in 2011.

Researchers have been gearing up for the cloud's approach to the galaxy's enormous central black hole, with its closest approach in September.

Radical Pastor Says Teaching Your Kids Not To Hate Gays Is ‘Disgusting’ (VIDEO)

http://www.addictinginfo.org/2013/05/29/religious-zealot-says-parents-who-dont-teach-their-kids-to-hate-gays-are-disgusting-video/

It’s the kind of hate we are so used to hearing about but still can’t quite understand where it’s coming from, mostly because you have to be an irrational nut case to comprehend it. Now, it’s not just hate against homosexuals. It’s hate on top of hate. It’s hate for not being hateful. It’s hate against anyone who doesn’t hate gays.

Matt Trewhella, founder of Missionaries to the Preborn, used his bully pulpit on a show called “In Focus,” broadcast on the Voice of Christian Youth America networks, to blast not only homosexuals for their “filthy” existence, but parents who don’t hate homosexuals for not teaching their kids to hate them.

Trewhella says in the show that allowing gay marriage will ‘totally change the culture’ of America. Then he goes on to a strange rant about how Americans are an ‘Atomistic society’ that is too busy being selfish to have kids anymore, as if Americans are just aborting fetuses left and right rather than have a child disrupt their lives. But for those who do actually, somehow, manage to resist that urge to abort every pregnancy and somehow get over their vanity to actually give birth to a child, Trewhella has some choice words:

“Your children would be getting perverted in their minds by these filthy people. I have no respect for people who are parents, who actually have children, and have no problem with homosexuality or homosexual marriage. They are the most base people on the planet to have totally abandoned every God-given vestige to protect your child from the filth of homosexuality, to blatantly go along with it is disgusting.”

Processed Meats Declared Too Dangerous for Human Consumption

http://dreamhealer.wordpress.com/2013/05/16/processed-meats-declared-too-dangerous-for-human-consumption/

The World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) has just completed a detailed review of more than 7,000 clinical studies covering links between diet and cancer. Its conclusion is rocking the health world with startling bluntness: Processed meats are too dangerous for human consumption. Consumers should stop buying and eating all processed meat products for the rest of their lives.

Processed meats include bacon, sausage, hot dogs, sandwich meat, packaged ham, pepperoni, salami and virtually all red meat used in frozen prepared meals. They are usually manufactured with a carcinogenic ingredient known as sodium nitrite. This is used as a color fixer by meat companies to turn packaged meats a bright red color so they look fresh. Unfortunately, sodium nitrite also results in the formation of cancer-causing nitrosamines in the human body. And this leads to a sharp increase in cancer risk for those who eat them.

A 2005 University of Hawaii study found that processed meats increase the risk of pancreatic cancer by 67 percent. Another study revealed that every 50 grams of processed meat consumed daily increases the risk of colorectal cancer by 21 percent. These are alarming numbers. Note that these cancer risks do not come from eating fresh, non-processed meats. They only appear in people who regularly consume processed meat products containing sodium nitrite.

Underground Experiment Asks Why We're Not Antimatter

http://www.livescience.com/34810-underground-detector-antimatter-decay.html

A new experiment buried deep underground in a South Dakota mine aims to detect rare particle decays that could explain the mystery of antimatter.

Scientists don't know why the universe is made of matter and not antimatter, but they hope to find differences in the way these two types of stuff behave that could explain the discrepancy. Antimatter particles have the same mass as their normal-matter counterparts, but opposite charge and spin.

The South Dakota effort, called the Majorana Demonstrator, aims to observe a theorized-but-never-seen process called neutrinoless double beta decay.

Unstable atomic nuclei (the cores of atoms containing protons and neutrons) will often let go of a neutron in a process known as beta decay. The neutron transforms into a proton by releasing an electron and a tiny particle called a neutrino. [5 Elusive Particles Beyond the Higgs]

Chile's Indians take on world's largest gold miner

Source: San Francisco Chronicle AP

EL CORRAL, Chile (AP) — The Diaguita Indians live in the foothills of the Andes, just downstream from the world's highest gold mine, where for as long as anyone can remember they've drunk straight from the glacier-fed river that irrigates their orchards and vineyards with its clear water.

Then thousands of mine workers and their huge machines moved in, building a road alongside the river that reaches all the way up to Pascua-Lama, a gold mine being built along both sides of the Chile-Argentine border at a lung-busting 16,400-feet (5,000 meters) above sea level.

The crews moved mountaintops in preparation for 25 years of gold and silver production, breaking rocks and allowing mineral acids that include arsenic, aluminum and sulfates to flow into the headwaters feeding Atacama desert communities down below.

River levels dropped, the water is murky in places and the Indians now complain of cancerous growths and aching stomachs. There's no way to prove or disprove it, but villagers are convinced Barrick Gold Corp. is to blame for their health problems.

"We don't know how much contamination the fruit and vegetables we eat may have," complained Diaguita leader Yovana Paredes Paez. "They're drying up the river, our farms aren't the same. The animals are dying of hunger. Now there's no cheese or meat. It's changed completely."

Scott Walker, GOP Slip ALEC Education Agenda Into Wisconsin Budget

http://www.prwatch.org/news/2013/05/12099/scott-walker-gop-slip-alec-education-agenda-wisconsin-budget

Governor Scott Walker seeks to "radically" overhaul Wisconsin's education system using several pieces of American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) model legislation, and to do it through the budget process, meaning this privatization agenda could be enacted with minimal public discussion or debate.

Scott Walker

The proposed budget provisions have the potential to "radically change public education in the State of Wisconsin," says Julie Mead, chair of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

On the campaign trail in 2010, Walker had pledged to "strip policy and pork projects from the state budget." But at least 46 non-budgetary items have been slipped into the proposed 2013-2015 budget, including ALEC-connected proposals limiting local school board oversight for charter schools, expanding "voucher" programs, and creating new teaching licenses for individuals with no education background.

"If these proposals have merit, they should be discussed in full light of day," she said. "They should not be snuck in through a budget bill.

The ALEC-inspired budget provisions include:

Alex Jones Explains How Government "Weather Weapon" Could Have Been Behind Oklahoma Tornado

The Government "Can Create And Steer Groups Of Tornadoes," But Jones Isn't Sure That Happened In Oklahoma

Conspiracy theorist radio host Alex Jones explained to his audience today how the government could have been behind the devastating May 20 tornado in Oklahoma.

On the May 21 edition of The Alex Jones Show, a caller asked Jones whether he was planning to cover how government technology may be behind a recent spate of sinkholes. After laying out how insurance companies use weather modification to avoid having to pay ski resorts for lack of snow, Jones said that "of course there's weather weapon stuff going on -- we had floods in Texas like fifteen years ago, killed thirty-something people in one night. Turned out it was the Air Force."

Following a long tangent, Jones returned to the caller's subject. While he explained that "natural tornadoes" do exist and that he's not sure if a government "weather weapon" was involved in the Oklahoma disaster, Jones warned nonetheless that the government "can create and steer groups of tornadoes."

Scott Walker tells Connecticut GOP most Americans on his side

http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/news/208305161.html

Gov. Scott Walker told Connecticut Republicans on Monday that most people back his efforts to remake government and take on public employee unions, according to a story by The Hartford Courant.

"The president and his allies, and I would argue the governor and some of his allies here, measure success in government by how many people are dependent on the government,'' Walker said, repeating a statement he has used frequently.

"We measure success in government by just the opposite: by how many fewer people are dependent on government, not because we kicked them out to the street, not because we pushed then out to the curb, but because we understand that true freedom and prosperity come when we empower people to take control of their own lives and their own destinies."
