The New Yorker interview with lawyer concerning conditions at child detention center.

Inside a Texas Building Where the Government Is Holding Immigrant Children

Hundreds of immigrant children who have been separated from their parents or family members are being held in dirty, neglectful, and dangerous conditions at Border Patrol facilities in Texas. This week, a team of lawyers interviewed more than fifty children at one of those facilities, in Clint, Texas, in order to monitor government compliance with the Flores settlement, which mandates that children must be held in safe and sanitary conditions and moved out of Border Patrol custody without unnecessary delays. The conditions the lawyers found were shocking: flu and lice outbreaks were going untreated, and children were filthy, sleeping on cold floors, and taking care of each other because of the lack of attention from guards. Some of them had been in the facility for weeks.

To discuss what the attorneys saw and heard, I spoke by phone with one of them, Warren Binford, a law professor at Willamette University and the director of its clinical-law program. She told me that, although Flores is an active court case, some of the lawyers were so disturbed by what they saw that they decided to talk to the media. We discussed the daily lives of the children in custody, the role that the guards are playing at the facility, and what should be done to unite many of these kids with their parents. Our conversation has been edited for length and clarity
.

I have seen excerpts, but not the entire interview. This is horrible.

@BetteMidler
there once was a turtle named mitch
who was really a son of a bitch
In the Senate he’d muster
A grand filibuster
But he still had no neck

So fuck him.

1. I've never seen Jackie O spread eagled in the nude.

2. Did he just refer to his wife as "it"?

Artist takes $20 bill design into his own hands with Harriet Tubman decorative stamp

Supporters of an Obama-era plan to put abolitionist Harriet Tubman on the $20 bill were disappointed last week by news that the Treasury Department has delayed the bill's redesign.

But artist Dano Wall decided not to wait for the Trump administration to honor the Underground Railroad hero. He has created a stamp that can be used to superimpose Tubman's image over President Andrew Jackson's portrait.

Wall created the stamp in 2017 with the intent of getting Tubman on the bill as soon as possible. In February of that year, he gave about 100 stamps to his friends before opening an Etsy shop to sustain the costs.

Does anyone know if this would be considered as defacing currency and make the bills legally unusable? I didn't see that referenced in the article other than the statement about being used in vending machines.

Hillary Clinton: "Classic Pattern" Of Fascist Takeover Is Happening Right Now In The United States

Hillary Clinton warned during an alumnae event Saturday at Wellesley College that fascism is coming to America. She cited Madeline Albright's book, "Fascism: A Warning," and sounded the alarm: "The idea that it can't happen here is just old fashioned, my friends."

"The demagoguery, the appeal to the crowd, the very clever use of symbols, the intimidation, verbal and physical," she said. "This is a classic pattern. There is nothing new about it, it is just different means of messages being delivered."

She did not use the president's name but said: "There is nothing normal about undermining the rule of law. There is nothing normal about attacking the press. There is nothing normal about trying to undermine another branch of government. There is nothing normal about trying to use the political system to go after your enemies. There is nothing normal about any of that."

"I am a very worried optimist," Clinton said. "If you care about this incredible experiment that we have been engaged in now for 200-plus years, then you have to be concerned about this."

TRUMP CAMPAIGN STILL HASN'T PAID $470K BILL FOR FEBRUARY MAGA RALLY IN EL PASO: REPORT

Donald Trump's campaign still hasn't paid an overdue $470,417.05 bill for the president's Make America Great Again rally that was held in El Paso in February.

Trump and former Texas congressman Beto O'Rourke (D), who officially announced his 2020 presidential campaign in March, held two distinctly opposing rallies on the same February night in the Texas border city. Since the event ended, O'Rourke paid the entire amount — $28,630.50 — owed to the city before his bill was due on May 24. Meanwhile, Trump's campaign still owes El Paso $470,417.05, ABC News reported on Monday. The president's invoice was due on April 26, according to the 29-page document obtained by ABC-7.

The March 27 invoice, sent to Donald J. Trump for President, Inc., consisted of fees from six departments: $6,286.57 was owed to El Paso's Police Department, $60,630.84 to the Fire Department, $15,577.52 to Sun Metro, $6,286.57 to the Department of Aviation and $528 to the Health Department.
----
Michael Glassner, chief operating officer for the Trump campaign, suggested El Paso has overcharged his team for the rally and said they are currently "reviewing" the invoice.

It looks like the City of El Paso is going to get "Trumped".
