In Iran, a story about the quality of mercy and the death penalty:
This is a very thoughtful essay on the death penalty. Read it and see if you don't agree...

Iran is a death penalty machine. More than 600 people were executed there last year, according to the United Nations, many of them in public hangings before crowds filled with children.
So far this year, there have been an estimated 188 executions. That number would have been 189 had it not been for the family of Abdollah Hosseinzadeh, an 18-year-old knifed to death in a street fight seven years ago.
Islamic sharia law gave the young man's mother, Samereh Alinejad, the right to extract revenge by participating in the execution of the man who killed her son. As the convicted murderer stood in the gallows, a noose around his neck, she was called forward to help kick the chair out from under him and administer the ultimate punishment.

****WCGreen Update -- Friday, May 2, 2014****
From his wife:Chris is more like himself every day. His dexterity is not good enough for texting or typing. He can read though, so texts would be great, as well as emails. Of course, cards are always welcome. Today was a very busy day for him. He had a Bronchoscopy, as well as other things. He has been going to move, and going to move, but he gotten fevers and that is a red flag for transplant patients. They want to make sure there is a plan in place and he is well enough to travel, although it is right up Fairhill, just a couple minutes away. The place sounds great - if you are ready to leave the hospital and not ready to go home - go there. They even have a Physical Therapy gym. Hopefully that will motivate him. Unfortunately, music therapy has motivated him the most, and they may not have it there.
He has his guitar, computer, and phone. He is totally set up. He is frequently so tired, though.
Thank you all for all of your support. I really know this has been a very long haul -
