Listen to a distraught Guatemalan child call his mother from a U.S. immigration shelter

Very sad. The child is just crying the whole time.

Mother: Remember that God exists. Kneel and cry to God. Ask him to help you get out of there.

Child: Everytime I go to sleep, I pray for you.

Mom: "We didn't kow that things were like this. If we had known, I would not have let you go with your dad."

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Will Be The Leading Democrat On Climate Change

Ocasio-Cortez outlined plans to transition the United States to a 100 percent renewable energy system by 2035. It’s a goal hailed by environmentalists as the last best hope of staving off the most catastrophic effects of human-caused planetary warming, and it’s one already adopted by a coalition of mayors representing 42 percent of U.S. electricity use and representing major cities such as Atlanta and St. Louis.

What sets Ocasio-Cortez’s proposal apart is her plan to meet the target by implementing what she called a “Green New Deal,” a federal plan to spur “the investment of trillions of dollars and the creation of millions of high-wage jobs.” Though the slogan harks back to President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s 1930s New Deal program of infrastructure spending and labor reforms, she compared the program she envisions to the tens of billions of dollars spent on armaments manufacturing and the rebuilding of Europe after World War II.

“The Green New Deal we are proposing will be similar in scale to the mobilization efforts seen in World War II or the Marshall Plan,” she told HuffPost by email last week. “We must again invest in the development, manufacturing, deployment, and distribution of energy, but this time green energy.”

Federal judge in San Diego - "all children must be returned to their families within 30 days"

children under 5 must be reunited with family in 14 days.

A federal judge in San Diego on Tuesday barred the separation of migrant children from their parents and ordered immigration officials to reunify within 30 days families that have been divided as a result of a zero-tolerance policy enforced by the Trump administration until last week.

Judge Dana Sabraw of the United States District Court for the Southern District of California granted a preliminary injunction sought by the American Civil Liberties Union.

An executive order issued by Trump last week ended the policy of forced separation, replacing it with family detention, but about 2,000 children remain split from their parents. The government had urged Sabraw not to grant the injunction, saying the president’s order, which followed days of bipartisan outcry, had resolved the concerns of the suit.

AP NewsBreak: Youngest migrants held in "tender age" shelters

Trump administration officials have been sending babies and other young children forcibly separated from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border to at least three “tender age” shelters in South Texas, The Associated Press has learned.

Lawyers and medical providers who have visited the Rio Grande Valley shelters described play rooms of crying preschool-age children in crisis. The government also plans to open a fourth shelter to house hundreds of young migrant children in Houston, where city leaders denounced the move Tuesday.

Border Patrol ripped girl with Down's syndrome away from her mom -- and now she's lost

Joining a chorus of critics as diverse as New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and former First Ladies Laura Bush, Michelle Obama and Hillary Clinton, Mexican Foreign Minister Luis Videgaray denounced President Donald Trump’s immigration policy, which has resulted in 2,000 kids being forcibly separated from their families — including a little girl with Down’s syndrome whose father is a legal U.S. resident.

“We strongly urge the U.S. government to reconsider this policy,” Mexican Foreign Minister Luis Videgaray said Tuesday. He called the Trump administration policies “cruel and inhumane,” according to the Wall Street Journal.

Videgaray, who’d recently spoken to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, cited the case of a ten-year-old girl with Down’s syndrome. She was split from her mother and brother when the family tried to enter the country and they were sent to different holding facilities. The girl’s father is a legal U.S. resident and the government of Mexico is working to reunite them, the Journal reports.

“This situation is unacceptable,” Videgaray said and called on the international community to act.
