After the darkness ...

The Winter Solstice, the longest night and shortest day of the year, is Monday night.

The solstice occurs at the same instant everywhere on Earth. In the United States, it happens at 11:48 p.m. ET Monday (or 10:48 p.m. CT, 9:48 p.m. MT)

May the longer minutes of light bring happiness into your heart each day

There was an unusual stillness as I approached the doves cage this morning.

One of my flock was near death. She was sitting alone in the shelter of a wicker bridge.

Late yesterday afternoon she was puffed out as if she was cold. I turned up the oil heater that sits on the floor near them.

She was one of the ones that always came close to me as I sat sipping coffee from before dawn into late evenings. A beautiful dusky brown with small orange rings around her sweet brown eyes.

I gently lifted her from her resting spot and cuddled her to the warmth of my chest. We sat like that for a brief time until she passed quietly away, as beautiful in death as she was in life.

I was blessed by her love, her beauty and her song. I watched her enter my world a few years ago. I'm glad I was able to hold her so that she did not die alone.

The flock has returned to life as usual.

About In_The_Wind

Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Though wise men at their end know dark is right, Because their words had forked no lightning they Do not go gentle into that good night. Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight, And learn, too late, they grieve it on its way, Do not go gentle into that good night. Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light. ~~~~~~~~~ For, it ends in the blink of an eye. Carpe Diem (Seize the day)!
