bobnicewander's JournalWhy every vote being counted is important
Most elections for president hinge on a small percentage of voters (less than 10%) voting for the loser instead of for the winner.
"Based on my original post of December 31, 2020.
The history of winners and losers percentages in presidential elections shows that the voting division between political parties in most elections is quite small.
Election Loser's Percentages
Last edited Thu Dec 8, 2022, 12:37 am CST. Bolding of loser's percentage has been removed for this posting.
Data gathered from Dave Leips site.
Only 4 times since the American Civil War has the popular vote loser been elected president. In every case it was a Republican candidate that lost the popular vote but won election. (1876, 1888, 2000, 2016).
In 27 of the the 41 elections listed below the loser has garnered more than 40% of the popular vote. That is, in 65.9% or almost in 2 out of 3 elections the loser had almost 1/2 of the voting public in his or her favor.
Only Democratic and Republican party's percentages are shown.
1st column shows the election year, 2nd column the Democratic party percentage of the popular vote, 3rd column the Republican party percentage of the popular vote. In all elections except the 4 noted the winner of the popular vote was elected to the presidency.

I made the original post
3 years ago. Since then my eyesight has deteriorated greatly. All of the facts are recorded history and available to all who will do the work of finding them. I am 82 years old and have cataract surgery coming up for both eyes. At this time I use reading glasses off the Walmart rack and a magnifying glass to see much of what I see on my 16 year old monitor.
The truth for Republicans
Show them this.
A repost of the facts of Republican leadership leading up to the biggest financial crashes in the country's history.
"Republicans have produced the 2 biggest financial crashes in America's history
After the crash of 1929 from 1932 through 1994 when they had the majority in 2 Congress's out of 30 in the House and 5 out of 30 in the Senate. They were denied leadership for 58 out of 62 years during which time the country recovered from the financial disaster their leadership caused and built the greatest middle class in it's history. Make America great again was done by Democratic leadership then and again after the 2008 fiasco.
President Obama had to increase the deficit only because he had to bail out Wall Street after the worst financial crash in modern American history occurred in September of 2008 (George W. Bush's term) after 8 years of Rethuglican leadership in the White House, the Senate, and the House of Representatives.
The largest crash before that, the Great Depression, also followed more than 8 years of Rethug leadership in the Presidency and both houses of Congress.

Extended Republican leadership
preceded 2 of the Unite States (and the world's) financial collapses.
In the almost 98 years from May of 1919 through January of 2017 (when tRump was sworn in) the Republican party only controlled the law making of the United States for 2 extended periods of time. Both times their policies led to financial collapse.
They controlled both houses of Congress from May of 1919 through to the 1929 crash in October of 1929 (10 years, 5 months - the Presidency for 8 years, 5 months) and from January 1995 through to the crash in September of 2008 (13 years, 8 months - the Presidency for 7 years, 8 months). They had 2 chances to govern, both resulted in financial failures. No politicians or bankers went to prison after the 1929 crash and only 1 banker did so after the 2008 crash.
After the 1929 crash they were denied control of the Senate for 46 of the next 50 years and out of control in the House for 60 of the next 64 years. Hopefully the backlash to the tRump term will result in a similar history but without the financial prodding.
Before 1929: Majority in Congress for 10 years, Supreme Court appointees 7 GOP - 2 Dem, Presidency 24 of 32 years.
9 years of Republican presidents - Harding, Coolidge, and Hoover.

Before 2008: Majority in congress for 13 years, Supreme Court appointees 7 GOP - 2 Dem, Presidency 20 of 28 years (Reagan 8 yrs, GW Bush 4, G Bush 8).
8 years of George Bush.

Published: Jul. 30, 2007 at 10:05 PM UTC|Updated: Jul. 30, 2007 at 10:08 PM UTC
WASHINGTON (AP) Chief Justice John Roberts suffered a seizure at his summer home in Maine on Monday, causing a fall that resulted in minor scrapes, Supreme Court spokeswoman Kathy Arberg said.
He will remain in a hospital in Maine overnight.
Roberts, 52, was taken by ambulance to the Penobscot Bay Medical Center, where he underwent a thorough neurological evaluation, which revealed no cause for concern, Arberg said in a statement.
Roberts had a similar episode in 1993, she said.
The incident occurred around 2 p.m. EDT on a dock near the home in Port Clyde on Maines Hupper Island. Port Clyde, which is part of the town of St. George, is about 90 miles by car northeast of Portland, midway up the coast of Maine."
