VOTE TOMORROW! Illinois primary time.

I hate to admit it, but the idea of a Rauner governorship scares me plenty. For the first time, I may cross over just to vote for anyone but Billionaire Bruce.

Dillard has been coming up, but it remains to be seen if his few ads can compete with a self-funded billionaire spending millions on a primary.
Brady? No chance.
and that other guy? Exactly my point.

As important is our judicial election. There are some terrible candidates, absolute morons or unethical shits who may win. I absolutely will vote.

If you find the ballot confusing or a pain in the arse, here is a site where you can see who should be on the bench. This CBA committee works hard. They do background checks, talk to your opponents, and interview everyone. Their work should not go to waste. http://www.voteforjudges.org/press/Nov2006/ChicagoDailyLaw_101106.htm

How Sweat It Is! The GOP primary in a month.

So Rutherford is probably going to withdraw. Dillard is catching up. Unions and other GOPers are combining forces to attack Rauner. And Brady is plodding along like a blind turtle.

The last poll I saw had Rauner in the lead (early January), trailed by Rutherford, Dillard and Brady, in that order, but the undecided beat them all, with close to 60% of the GOP registered vote. Raumer has owned the airways since last year, but now the oppo-folks are hitting him hard, and it is leaving marks. His support was always shallow and weak, even though he did hit 19% in the lead back then. I am sure his poll numbers have fallen since then, as the attack ads are beginning to stick.

I suspect Rauner will say something stupid (insert image of Boewinkle taking a rabbit out of his hat) as his internal polling begins to freak him out. Rutherford will be out. Brady will be a distant 3d, and Dillard may surprise people. I see Dillard in a virtual tie with Rauner, only because of the self funded millions Rauner has spent on the air so far.

Why Jared's ads piss me off.

1. It is bad enough that they market junk. But to call it something that rhymes with Diarrhea?

Jared's - The Diarrhea of Jewelry!

2. Their x-mas ads started BEFORE FUCKING THANKSGIVING!

3. Did I mention that they market junk?

4. Finally, I cannot think of a smarmier, more irritating tone and atmosphere done by any other advertiser. Even a Better Call Saul ad would be preferable.

2 minor gliches in 7.

When using Evernote, I froze up the screen, (at the most inopportune time in front of the judge, no less), and eventually had to delete the program off the ipad and reinstall it.

Another problem with 7, when I expand the screen to home in on something, I find it impossible to bring it back to normal viewing. A reboot always solves the problem, other than being time consuming.

Big shiny metal god reaches sky with flames shooting out of its ass!

Peoples fell to their knees, wondering if god was leaving them for good! Others prayed, opened their fairy tale books, and read aloud, hoping that the gods would heed their wishes. Still others turned on massively powerful computing systems, to better analyze the spying data that this huge flying beast would soon bring them.

The NSA conveniently ignored the launch, but apparently, this will be a replacement for the oldest Keyhole satellite orbiting the earth for at least 8 years.

Contrary to other reports, there has been no "deal" by Reid, caving in once again. Of course, that won't stop him from caving later today.

The vote on Richard Cordrey is up at 11. If it goes forward, without a filibuster, the dems have won. If we cave in, the nation loses. If the nomination is filibustered, and no changes are made? the GOP owns this White House, this Senate, and obviously, the House.

Filemaker 12 update issues

I usually update all software and app programs whenever Apple or a software maker has a fix.

Filemaker 12 is a great database, and I run my office off of a nice commercial program that runs on it. I also use Filemaker Go. Both got updated yesterday.

As I was syncing the data from my computer to my iPad, I found that I was locked out, and that I had "No privileges" to access my data.
Turns out that there is an easy fix. plug in your iPad, turn it on and unlock it if you are password protected (Highly recommended).
Then go to iTunes, and select filemaker go, and press add at the bottom of the screen. Then, pick your database, click on it once, then press Control and OPEN. Voila, no issues. The same approach when you add a non-Apple program on 10.8.

Nuance products suck

Sure, they have a couple of Mac based, dedicated programs. Dragon and some PDF converters.

Most companies that cater to Mac users send updates, sales pitches, and news about new products. It is easy to presume that Nuance would, too.

Unfortunately, they send their ads to all registered clients, regardless of the platform. For example, they offered $400 off their Omnipage Pro program, that offers to make your scanning and paper free environment easy as pie. Cake? whatever. NOT UNTIL YOU BUY THE PROGRAM and BEGIN TO DOWN LOAD does their website or literature tell you it can only be used on Windows 8. So, I spent 20 minutes on the call cancelling my purchase, gnashing my teeth. I asked why they don't put a head's up on their ads? No answer. I asked have any other Mac users also called and cancelled and complained? "Oh, yes. I received several just this morning! I cannot imagine why!"

Grr.

fascinating article by Juan Cole

what a joy it is to read a historian write about something he/she knows. Especially when the topic is christianity - muslim religions (and how their early days were so murky).

Here's a sample:

First of all, we know very little about the lives of Jesus (d. circa 30-33 CE) or Muhammad (d. 632 CE). As a historian, I’m looking for early sources and diverse sources. The earliest manuscripts of the New Testament are second century, and in Greek rather than in the original Aramaic (some ideas may have changed radically with the translation– the Aramaic almost certainly did not have the phrase ‘son of God.’) There are many variants among the manuscripts and among the Gospels. Did Mark even know about a resurrection? There are even questions about what sources early Christians accepted (is the Gnostic Gospel of Thomas a Gospel?) All of the extant accounts of Jesus obviously come from a small number of early Christian communities. There is no early outside source. We historians want accounts coming from several different sources.

Amazingly, 600+ years later, there were outside sources discussing Muhammed, something the christians sorely lack.

Here's the cite. http://www.juancole.com/
A very interesting read. Especially how growing numbers of ".....istan" peoples are doing without religion.

I just hope his conclusion, that 200 yrs from now both those religions will be dead. They've caused enough pain and suffering by now, haven't they?
