Biden to Netanyahu: US support for Israel depends on 'steps to address civilian harm and suffering'

Source: BBC

“The White House has just published an official record of the call between the president and Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu.

It says the two leaders discussed the situation in Gaza, with Biden "emphasising that the strikes on humanitarian workers and the overall humanitarian situation are unacceptable".

Biden is also said to have made clear the need for Israel to "announce and implement a series of specific, concrete, and measurable steps to address civilian harm, humanitarian suffering, and the safety of aid workers".

The readout adds that Biden told his Israeli counterpart, the US's policy "with respect to Gaza will be determined by our assessment of Israel’s immediate action on these steps" - and stressed that an immediate ceasefire "is essential to stabilize and improve the humanitarian situation and protect innocent civilians".

Netanyahu's office is yet to issue its readout of the call.”

Chunk of a Boeing 737 fell off United flight, this one from San Francisco to southern Oregon

Source: The Oregonian

An exterior panel of a Boeing 737 carrying passengers on a United Airlines flight from San Francisco to Medford appears to have torn off mid-flight Friday, marking the latest in a string of recent high-profile mishaps for Boeing planes.

A photo of the plane shows a hole in the fuselage, exposing what appears to be mechanical components of the aircraft. United said the missing panel was located where one of the wings meets the aircraft’s body, near the landing gear. United did not answer questions about what caused the panel to fall to the ground.

The plane is a Boeing 737-800, according to United. It is not a Boeing 737 Max 9, which is the model of Boeing plane that made an emergency landing in Portland after a door plug flew off of the Alaska Airlines aircraft about six minutes into a Jan. 5 flight.

Friday’s Flight 433 landed shortly before noon as scheduled at Rogue Valley International Medford Airport, said airport Director Amber Judd. United said none of the 139 passengers and six crew members were injured.

All about Messi!

I cannot recommend Anatomy of a Fall highly enough. Haven’t yet seen Poor Things but it’s hard to imagine a more powerful and compelling performance as that of Sandra Hüller in this extraordinary film. But then there’s Messi as Snoop! Absolument formidable!

Jimmy Kimmel brought out a very special guest with him as he hosted the 2024 Oscars: ‘Anatomy of a Fall’ dog Messi

The 2024 Oscars may have been a star-studded night, but it was a 7-year-old border collie that stole the show.

Messi joined host Jimmy Kimmel in the audience where he cheered on the winners of Hollywood’s biggest night. The pup first rose to fame after his scene-stealing role in Anatomy of a Fall, in which he portrays a guide dog that nearly overdoses on pain medication.

“There were a few interviews in France, but what we’ve been experiencing here in America — with the attention to this dog and his acting — it’s beyond anything we anticipated,” Messi’s trainer and owner Laura Martin Contini told The Hollywood Reporter in February 2024. “It’s probably the maximum that you can accomplish in this field.”
