One Idea for Controlling Gun Violence

Just found this:

At times like these, I choose to discuss gun issues because, as one of the nation’s few centrists on the issue of guns, and as someone who is rather liberal on nearly every other issue, I feel I’m almost-uniquely qualified to objectively handle the subject.

The way I see it, we have two options: One, ban guns entirely. Two, have people we trust to have guns to defend us. Let’s take them in turn:

Vending Machine America

They’re selling us vending machines.

That’s all they’re doing.

I hope you know.

And people wonder why the gap grows — why wealth is disappearing out of the middle class. What were once good services, that we enjoyed, have now turned into nothing more than vending machines.

Mitt’s plan to roll back our progressive tax system

Source: http://jaundicejames.com

The Romney plan to reduce tax rates across the board by 20% is widely known and reported.

I fear that people don’t know what this means, exactly. I think the immediate assumption is that he’s going to be reducing everyone’s taxes by 20%, evenly, across the board. That’s not what it means. The devilish, sneaky little detail in Mitt’s plan is just how he parses his words. He’s reducing the tax RATES by 20%. This means that the percent upper class taxes will be discounted will be greater than the percent for lower class incomes.

More importantly, it pushes both ends of the tax spectrum closer together by 20%, making our progressive tax system, well, less progressive.

The fact that Romney's tax plan reduces the "progressiveness" of our tax system is something that is not widely reported. Please help me spread this fact.

A Progressive’s Argument for Arming America

On most things, I’m about as Progressive as they come. I lived in Colorado for many years where I could carry a gun if I wanted to, but chose not to because I’ve always been, mainly, a computer nerd who worked in office buildings...

What I am suggesting is that an armed people is a deterrent...
