New Year's Eve Google Doodle:

You have to wait until tomorrow to see it hatch! http://time.com/4164753/google-doodle-new-years-eve-2015-2016/

American abstract artist Ellsworth Kelly has died.

Ellsworth Kelly, one of America’s great 20th-century abstract artists, who in the years after World War II shaped a distinctive style of American painting by combining the solid shapes and brilliant colors of European abstraction with forms distilled from everyday life, died on Sunday at his home in Spencertown, N.Y. He was 92.

Mr. Kelly was a true original, forging his art equally from the observational exactitude he gained as a youthful bird-watching enthusiast; from skills he developed as a designer of camouflage patterns while in the Army; and from exercises in automatic drawing he picked up from European surrealism.

Although his knowledge of, and love for, art history was profound, he was little affected by the contemporary art of his time and country. He was living in France during the heyday of Abstract Expressionism in New York and only distantly aware of art in the United States.

He received the National Medal for the Arts in 2013 from President Obama.

A lot of people do that!

We never did because we were told that Santa brought the presents while we were asleep and we continued the "tradition" with our kids.

Our big treat was to come home from Midnight Mass and sample the kielbassa! (We fasted on Christmas Eve.)

Twas the night before Chrismis and all through dahtahn

Not a creature was stirrin, weren't no one arahn!

The stockings needed hung by the chimley with care,

Ahnachanta Saint Nicklas soon would be there.

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,

While visions of progis raced in their heads,

And mawm in her babushka and me in my hat,

Had just settled dahn for a long winner n'at;

When ahtside I heard a noise on the lawn,

I sprung from my bed to see whawas goin on.

To the baffroom window I flew like a flash,

Tore open the shudders and threw up the sash.

My neckstore neighbor was aht with his cat,

I shahted at him — “Quit bein nebby n'at.”

When what to my ooglin' eyes I seen there,

But a miniature sleigh, moving my parking chair!
