Pennsylvania court halts any action against attorney generalBy MARC LEVY
The Associated Press
HARRISBURG, Pa. Pennsylvania's high court has at least temporarily blocked a prosecutor from taking action on a grand jury recommendation that the attorney general be charged criminally in an investigation of alleged leaks of secret investigative material by her office.
A Supreme Court spokesman said Thursday the halt is effective "until further order of the court." Matters in the case are otherwise under seal.
Attorney General Kathleen Kane says she's done nothing wrong. The court will hear her challenge in March to the legality of the special prosecutor involved in the investigation of her office.
A grand jury last month recommended that Kane be charged with perjury, false swearing, official oppression and obstruction.
The case had been sent to Montgomery County's district attorney to decide whether to charge Kane.

WASHINGTON Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin might leave Washington early for West Virginia and run for governor, rather than suffer through another four years of a Senate riven by political hostility.
So far, though, the word he wants to hear bipartisanship is on everyone's lips. Manchin and his coal state interests have found a more receptive audience in the Republican-led Senate, and he's challenging President Obama over construction of the Keystone XL pipeline. He also stands to wield more clout as a centrist Democrat who might be helpful during tough votes the GOP can't win alone.
But the new Congress is only a few days old. The professed bipartisan spirit is fragile. And Manchin is keeping his options open.
I'll make a decision by this summer, end of the spring, the 67-year-old senator and former governor said in an interview with The Associated Press. He refused to commit to serving out his Senate term, which runs through 2018.

Grand jury recommends criminal charges against AG Kane, newspaper says.
HARRISBURG A statewide grand jury will recommend criminal charges against the state's top law enforcement officer, Attorney General Kathleen Kane, including perjury and contempt of court, stemming from an investigation of whether her office leaked grand jury information to a Philadelphia newspaper.
The Philadelphia Inquirer, citing unnamed sources, reported Thursday that the grand jury meeting in Montgomery County found evidence of wrongdoing and recommended Kane be criminally charged.
Kane's Washington-based attorney, Lanny Davis, said he could not confirm the Inquirer's report.

Kane has claimed innocence. HARRISBURG Attorney General Kathleen Kane said Friday that a fair and impartial review of the facts will conclude she has done nothing illegal and is under political attack.
In her first public statement since a Philadelphia newspaper's report that a grand jury will recommend criminal charges against Kane for leaking confidential information, she said, This seems to me to be another political attack on my attempt to clean up Harrisburg and its political culture. They have fought me all the way, including an effort to impeach me.
