Rachel has a big scoop about how the Russians tried to influence the election. On now.

She is discussing the Newsweek cover story coming out tomorrow. Maybe I'll buy a copy!

Proposed bill would allow 15-day early voting period in Pa.

State Sen. Wayne Fontana, D-Brookline, who requested the hearing, is sponsoring a bill that would permit voting 15 days prior to a primary or general election at select polling places in each county. The polls would have to be open eight hours each weekday and a total of at least eight hours on weekends.

Fontana said he purposely called for the hearing six days before a presidential election to highlight the need for early voting in Pennsylvania. So far, 22 million people across the country — including President Obama and former U.S. House Speaker John Boehner — have voted early for Tuesday's election.

PA is one of only 13 states without early voting. It would require a change to the state constitution, according to the above article.

These damn flies are driving me crazy!

We are having a warm, sunny day and they are all getting into the house. I have no windows or doors open but see them on the windows. One just buzz-bombed past my head. I must have killed about three dozen of them in one bedroom. I think they are "cluster flies" from searching online.

Any tips on how to repel them? They come in from the attic according to an online article. (I'm not going to climb up into the attic. Too old for that!) I hung a fly strip, but no takers so far.

Some sanity about the emails "thing" (from ThinkProgress):

What the FBI Director’s letter about the Clinton emails really says
It’s a good idea to read the letter before you report on it.

As of this writing, all three cable news networks are in a frenzy. FBI Director James Comey just sent a letter to Republican congressional committee chairs announcing that he’s taking a new look into Hillary Clinton’s emails. Another investigation! And right before the election! She could be indicted!
Well, probably not. Indeed, almost definitely not. Here’s what the letter actually says:

I don't think it is right to assume that they are malingers.

I knew many teachers with serious health problems that required them to miss multiple days. One year, I missed 28 days due to a medical issue. Prior to that I had never missed a day in about 16 years! I had nearly 200 accumulated sick days.

Teaching is a stressful job and teachers get sick. It is difficult to schedule medical appointments and procedures after 4:00 or weekends. Some even get serious illnesses like cancer, heart disease, and other conditions that require long-term absences. You can't always schedule a serious illness over summer break.

Today's Google Doodle: The Father of Microbiology

Today's Google Doodle: The father of microbiology:

The 'father of microbiology' is celebrated with a Google Doodle today, on what would have been his 384th birthday. (snip> biography)

Today's Google Doodle was designed by Gerben Steenks, who wrote: "I chose to make it an animated Doodle to show the 'before and after' experience that Antoni van Leeuwenhoek had — looking through a microscope and seeing a surprising new world." Here's to celebrating a true visionary!
