Before there was Hillary, there was Shirley. Shirley Chisholm, a fiery congresswoman from New York, was the first black woman to run for president n 1972. When she announced her historic candidacy, Chisolm cut right to the point.

"I am not the candidate of black America, although I am black and proud," she said. "I am not the candidate of the women's movement of this country, although I am a woman and I am equally proud of that. I am the candidate of the people, and my presence before you now symbolizes a new era in American political history."

The DOJ is investigating big money re violation of bribery laws involving Libya's investment fund

WSJ: Financial firms probed over possible bribery in Libya. The Department of Justice has joined an expanding probe of banks, private-equity firms and hedge funds over the possible violation of bribery laws involving Libya's state investment fund prior to the rebellion against Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, the WSJ reports. The investigation originally focused on Goldman Sachs (GS) but now includes Credit Suisse (CS), JP Morgan (JPM), Société Générale (OTC:SCGLF), Blackstone (BX) and hedge-fund operator Och-Ziff Capital Management Group (OZM).

I don't subscribe to the WSJ, but the blurb tells us quite a bit. Maybe murder, maybe suicide, big money, as we know, has many tentacles.

Sweet Vengeance 2013, this is a movie that lightened my load

This film is written and directed by Logan and Noah Miller (who also act in it) and shows a true representation of the early and extreme behavior of the Mormons and their mission to populate the West. Jason Isaacs plays the creepy, patriarchal prophet and Ed Harris is his nemesis and I know not everyone appreciates Ed Harris the way I do, but his crazy sheriff portrayal has such panache.

I say it lightened my load because I met men in Utah who still carry the crazy notions expressed by the male characters and even though it is set in the past, any exposure at all of the American Taliban is valuable to me. It might be called revenge porn, but like the movie Inglourious Basterds, it provides an inkling of much needed satisfaction.

I considered putting this in the Movie group, but it doesn't quite match their SOP and I wanted to be sure anyone concerned with patriarchal abuse would see it.

No really, they need to start charging us for wasting their time as we inquire about how our privacy is being invaded. Who are we to make demands on them?

And they must keep repeating this about the metadata:

Of course the response excludes anything about National Defense Authorization Act of 2014, which will in fact allow analysis of any and all metadata.

On May 22, 2013 the Subcommittee on Intelligence, Emerging Threats and Capabilities, one of several Armed Services Committees, met to discuss the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2014. The main subject of the hearing was Sec. 1061, otherwise known as Enhancement of Capacity of the United States Government to Analyze Captured Records. This enhancement provision of NDAA 2014 would effectively create a new intelligence agency, one with the authority to analyze information gained under the Patriot Act, FISA, and known spying programs such as PRISM.

Once Obama knew the actual scope of the GOP plan, he devised a counter-plan

Probably the most difficult, complex problem he has ever faced. He has methodically moved forward and now it seems people are just noticing. The GOP must be noticing as well, it will be interesting to see what new tricks they might have.

The IRS did not inappropriately target conservative groups

WASHINGTON -- The Internal Revenue Service agents who inappropriately targeted conservative groups had been following orders from the Obama administration, House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) said on Sunday.

And he called the administration's top spokesman a liar.

The groups filed for tax exempt status, which stood out as unusual so they were flagged. The teabaggers made an error and like any error with the IRS it is investigated.

This is just more GOP obfuscation and obstruction.
