Wasilla, in its seemingly never-ending quest to earn the derision and eye-rolling of the nation, has a new offering in the headlines this week. It has to do with a piece of artwork that currently sits outside Wasilla High School, the alma mater of our former ex-half governor, Sarah Palin and her ex-half-First Dude, Todd. In an homage to the school team, the Wasilla Warriors, the piece by artists Jim Dault and Shala Dobson was commissioned by the Percent for Art program to the tune of $100,000. It is titled “The Warrior Within” and features a pair of shields – one bronze with a hand, and one aluminum with a flame, which glow from within the large stone form.

The problem is that the students and parents of Wasilla find the statue offensive. Why? Well, it’s because the shields, surrounded by feathers reminds them of…um… it kind of looks like … (whispers)… female genitalia. Yes, this is what the population of Wasilla sees, and has therefore in horror, covered it up with a tarp before it could do any damage to young impressionable minds, and the parents thereof.

Despite the fact that everyone in Wasilla was born to someone with the above mentioned anatomy, and most entered the world through that self same portal, we can clearly not have anything to do with anything that remotely resembles it.

According to the artists’ description:

“Emerging from the powerful stone form are two warrior shields encircled by glowing feathers,” the description says, adding the art is a monument to the warrior spirit. “The bronze shield has a hand impression showing ‘good deeds.’ The aluminum shield has a flame symbol representing the ‘spark of inspiration.’ The stone form represents the strong material from which a warrior is made.”

Yup, it’s a hoohoo alright.

Greek Cuts Drama: Healthcare Doomed, Army Booms

Uploaded by RussiaToday on Feb 16, 2012

The human cost of EU-mandated austerity in Greece is being felt like never before. Cuts and slashes in spending have left hospitals short of medicine, workers short of cash and many ill Greeks out of luck. But, as RT's Jacob Greaves reports, the NATO chief's visit to Greece suggests the military may remain largely immune.

There has been a lot of discussion about the political power of Egypt's ruling military, but what about its economic strength?

'Who runs Greece? Bankers who pit poor vs poor'

"I don't understand why we have to pay to live on the planet we were born on. I mean it's such a simple question. But can anyone answer that? Why does anyone have to pay to live on the planet they were born on? Ask yourself that question. And who are we actually paying for the privilege to live here? Who decided this? Who made "them" the boss? Who put "them" in-charge?" ~Alex Collier

If You're Diabetic, You Might Want to Steer Clear of Nevada, Also the Police

Also the Police[/font]

The city council of Henderson, Nev. has approved a settlement of $158,500 after police brutally beat a man in diabetic shock after they stopped him for what they thought was drunken driving. Video shows five officers screaming at, pulling guns on and subduing Adam Greene as a sixth kicks him hard enough to break several ribs. Then they figured out he was ill. Who is it these guys work for again?
“Stop resisting motherf****r! Stop resisting motherf****r!” - one of the guys hired to serve and protect said, as Greene lay on the ground. (VIDEO)

"What no one seemed to notice was the ever widening gap between the government and the people. And it became always wider the whole process of its coming into being, was above all diverting, it provided an excuse not to think for people who did not want to think anyway. Nazism gave us some dreadful, fundamental things to think about and kept us so busy with continuous changes and "crises" and so fascinated by the machinations of the "national enemies," without and within, that we had no time to think about these dreadful things that were growing, little by little, all around us.

Each step was so small, so inconsequential, so well explained or, on occasion, "regretted," that unless one understood what the whole thing was in principle, what all these "little measures" must some day lead to, one no more saw it developing from day to day than a farmer in his field sees the corn growing. Each act is worse than the last, but only a little worse. You wait for the next and the next. You wait for one great shocking occasion, thinking that others, when such a shock comes, will join you in resisting somehow. You don't want to act, or even talk, alone, you don't want to "go out of your way to make trouble." But the one great shocking occasion, when tens or hundreds or thousands will join with you, never comes.

That's the difficulty. The forms are all there, all untouched, all reassuring, the houses, the shops, the jobs, the mealtimes, the visits, the concerts, the cinema, the holidays. But the spirit, which you never noticed because you made the lifelong mistake of identifying it with the forms, is changed. Now you live in a world of hate and fear, and the people who hate and fear do not even know it themselves, when everyone is transformed, no one is transformed. You have accepted things you would not have accepted five years ago, a year ago, things your father could never have imagined."

Firefighters vs Cops: Striking Fire Officers Hose Down PM Office In Brussels

Apparently here's a scenario that these ''geniuses'' in the EU and the IMF haven't considered. If they keep up with these austerity measures and the laying-off of public workers, what happens when the bank catches fire? Who'll put it out?
