Well we're gonna talk about the Mormon issue

so Chucky and friends better get used to it.

Whereas followers of other religions might be cafeteria followers--worship on Sunday and do whatever you want on Monday--not so with the LDS Church. Members live their faith 7 days a week. Beliefs and rituals are deeply ingrained for those who grow up in the church. Policies and practices are consequently influenced by these beliefs.

The public needs to know.

The idea of Romney as president sends chills up my spine, and I am a Mormon.

One thing I love about DU:

A whole lot of geniuses find their way here, and life becomes good again.

It must be extremely difficult for any true genius to be "well adjusted."

How isolated a genius must feel...understanding things that others do not...unable to communicate with peers of lesser intelligence, which would be most everyone else...called crazy because others don't understand what he or she is talking about...called stupid because he or she is different...and much more.

I suppose the emphasis falls on

whatever scripture is being studied in church at any particular time. For example, in 2011 we studied the New Testament. In 2012 we're discussing the Book of Mormon. I'm speaking now merely as a member who attends services, not as someone who reads whatever is published, whatever is found on the internet, or whatever the media focuses on concerning the LDS Church. Certainly, just because we do use the Book of Mormon--which seems to cause people of other faiths/people of no faith to verbally go on the attack-- that is what most everyone wants to talk about. Why, I imagine quite a few DUers here are surprised to learn we believe in Jesus as our savior and we even believe in the Bible.

About requiring strict obedience

to the LDS president: Mormonism requires obedience to the teachings of Jesus Christ as revealed in the Bible. As with other religions, however, there is much picking and choosing. And Jesus' teachings are often open to interpretation, so various religions would have their own particular take on those teachings.

There is much wisdom in this thread

but there is also much misinformation as well as "spin" concerning Mormon beliefs and practices. I see one gigantic reason Romney should not become our President, and I wonder why no one seems to be focusing on it yet.

What will happen when or if Romney is faced with making a split-second decision that could bring about destruction on a global scale? We Mormons think there may be a cataclysmic event in our lifetime and are preparing for it. This is a core belief, and one that is all-important. What would Romney do in that split second? Be the Mormon "hero" who allows prophesy to become reality? Could he do that? How deeply ingrained are his beliefs that have been taught from birth? I wouldn't want to take that chance with Romney, or any other Mormon.
