workers dismantling Costa Concordia find the last missing victim

— The body of an Indian waiter who was the last missing victim of the shipwrecked Costa Concordia cruise liner has been found by crews dismantling the vessel, authorities said Monday.

The body was discovered by workers clearing debris from the ship in a passenger’s cabin on the eighth deck, said Carabinieri commander Capt. Massimo Pittaluga. He said the victim was wearing a shirt that contained an identification card for missing crew member Russel Rebello.

In a Facebook message, Rebello’s brother, Kevin Rebello, confirmed the discovery of his brother’s remains, thanking “all those who prayed and believed that one day he would be found.”

He said a DNA test would be performed before putting his brother to rest “with honor,” adding simply: “India, we are coming.”

Kansas candidate sort-of apologizes "First Black Guy to Admit He Is The Father" Facebook post.

Topeka — A Kansas House candidate is facing criticism for a Facebook post that joked about black fathers.

Republican Cordell Fischer told The Topeka Capital-Journal that he removed the post when he became aware of it. He says his wife tagged him in the post and that it wasn't supposed to be public

The post featured a Darth Vader photo with the caption, "FIRST BLACK GUY TO ADMIT HE IS THE FATHER," a reference to the "Star Wars" villain telling Luke Skywalker he was his father.

Fischer is running against Democratic Rep. Harold Lane, whose district covers eastern Topeka. Lane says he "found it appalling that anyone would post something so inappropriate." Both candidates are white.

Fischer, a church pastor, says he apologizes for "whatever it looked like to the public."

Dash cam video shows two Austin police officers joking about rape

dash cam video shows two Austin police officers joking about rape.

The Austin Police Department has confirmed to FOX 7 that the video is authentic.

It was taken in late May in central Austin while two officers were investigating a fender bender. In the video, an officer blows his whistle at a woman (who is off-camera) and says, “Go ahead, call the cops, they can't unrape you.”

APD has identified the officers as Michael Castillo and Mark Lytle.

Austin attorney Drew Gibbs uncovered the video while he was looking into the car accident for a client.

On Friday, APD released a statement about the video saying, “the officers in the video-audio have been identified as Austin police officers. Upon learning of the video's contents, the department immediately launched an internal investigation.”

park employees begin painstaking process of removing Casey Nocket's grafitti from 8 national parks

Painted faces at parks need painstaking removal

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A series of graffiti-like paintings on rocks in national parks across the West set off a furor on social media this month, angering people who say they desecrated some of the nation's most famously picturesque landscapes. They've also created a headache for park managers who have the delicate task of cleaning up the sites without causing further damage.

It won't be easy to get rid of the paintings, photos of which were posted on Instagram and Tumblr and then picked up by hiking blogs. Sandblasting and some chemical strippers can cause even more damage to irreplaceable natural features, especially if graffiti is near ancient rock art.

In some cases, workers use plastic kitchen spatulas to painstakingly scrape off paint. Workers test different chemicals to figure out which will loosen the material without damaging rock, then rinse it off with lots of low-pressure hot water, gently scraping each layer away with the spatula, said National Park Service spokesman Jason Olson.

Casey Nocket, the 21-year-old suspect identified by the park service this week, allegedly used acrylic paint and signed with the handle "creepytings." Attempts to reach Nocket were unsuccessful. A phone listing for her was disconnected and her social media accounts have been shut down or made private.

The National Park Service said this week they've found paintings in Yosemite, Death Valley and Joshua Tree in California; Crater Lake in Oregon; Zion National Park and Canyonlands in Utah; and Rocky Mountain in Colorado, where Colorado National Monument was also tagged.
