Investigative Journalism sorely needed

I am so frustrated by the lack of any real investigative journalism that seems to be going on right now.

It would seem to me that some journalist, or journalist wanna-be, would see the current situation as ripe for some serious investigative journalism and be hard at work investigating corroborating or disproving statements by the administration and it's congressional enablers and digging through all the figurative and literal dumpsters to find out what these people are all working so hard to conceal.

All we seem to be getting is partisan BS from the "journalist" who support or oppose the dolt in the oval office.
All I seem to see is what I call "bias confirmation" journalism that seeks only to validate one side or the other with little to no regard for the real truth and the deeper story.

A journalist with tenacity, good instincts and a willingness to "go there" would be a real plus for the nation right about now.

I have never spent any time looking at free-republic until recently

OMF'ingG those people are truly CRAZY.

Things they believe
1) dolt45 is the greatest genius that has ever been born and everyone is jealous of his power.
2) Everything is a conspiracy
3) The US can do whatever it wants whenever and wherever in the world we want to without consequences
4) Every problem this country has is the fault of Barack Obama (if it isn't his fault it's Bill or Hillory Clinton)
5) Any facts that are reported that run counter to their beliefs are lies from the "fake news"
6) Spicer is the bestest press secretary like ever

Shocking things I read there
1) Trump should "abolish congress and appoint himself king"
2) In regards to judges and the travel ban "Time to start decorating lamp posts with these dooshes"
3) We should engage in "total destruction via Preemptive nuclear strike" to deal with North Korea
4) Multiple references to "revolution" if they don't get their way

It would be comical if it weren't truly scary.

Hey Dolt 45 "Just who the hell do you think you are?"

Fantastic Editorial

"I know, too, that you’re accustomed to being emperor of your own fiefdom. Must be nice. Your name on the wall, the paychecks, the side of the building. You tell people to make something happen, and it does. You yell at a problem, and it goes away. Nobody talks back. I can see how it would be hard to give that up.

But you did. You see, you’re no longer an emperor, Mr. So-Called President. You’re now what is called a “public servant” — in effect, an employee with 324 million bosses. And let me tell you something about those bosses. They’re unruly and loud, long accustomed to speaking their minds without fear or fetter. And they believe power must always answer to the people. That’s at the core of their identity."

Could the reign of Dolt 45 (saw that earlier and like it)

Spark a new, and much needed, interest in civics, political involvement and understanding of the how the government is SUPPOSED to function?

All of the crap this one and his team are pulling is prompting a lot of discussion on news broadcasts about how things are set up in the constitution such as the judiciary being a separate and independent branch of the government.

I wonder sometimes how many American voters actually comprehend how the system was intended to function and that the three branches of government are actually co-equal.

Just trying to find something to be positive about and this and the possible reemergence of actual investigative journalism are all I have so far.

It is asking if you agree or disagree with twitlers actions on Dakota Access and Keystone.
Agree with both is currently leading.

Best Case Scenario, Heavy pressure from Congress for Trump to step down

Then what happens?

I mean I understand the succession plan and the who's and how's.

My question is about his rabid followers, what will they do?

They believe he is messianic and that everything that he or his mouthpieces tell them is true and accurate.

They believe anything negative that is reported or even just posted about twitler is bs, "fake news"

Based on the "conversations", and I use that term in very broadest context, I have seen on pee-republic they view every question and criticism of dear leader as treasonous.

They are, in many cases, armed to the teeth and spoiling for a fit against "dirty liberals"

I truly wonder what may happen if/when the shit hits the fan and some major scandal rightfully brings down the house of cards that is the pResident and the KGOP.

I have spent the last 8 years concerned about the use of drones

to wage war.

I hate that collateral damage is done and innocents killed by remotely operated killing machines.
I understand that in war (declared or not) civilians die.
I have decried President Obama's escalation in the use of drones and have taken some heat for it.

I trusted my president to use an abundance of caution and gain a thorough understanding of the situation prior to deploying any use of US armed forces.

Now I find myself asking what the next 4 years are going to bring.
We have a thin-skinned, narcissistic bully preparing to take the oath of office in just few short weeks.
A man who's campaign promised swift and sever retaliation for every thing and who's judgment has already proven to very poor.
A man who can't abide even the slightest criticism. A man who has no qualms about using a "scorched earth" policy to deal with minor opposition.

I have found myself speculating on where, how and against what targets he will employ, or at least attempt to employ, American military might. Drones offer a low risk method to "bomb the shit out of them", which he has PROMISED to do.
His recent statement concerning the error attack in Berlin:

“[Islamic State] and other Islamist terrorists continually slaughter Christians in their communities and places of worship as part of their global jihad. These terrorists and their regional and worldwide networks must be eradicated from the face of the earth.”

There seems to me that there is no question the use of drones will increase in the next 4 years.

THIS is the reason I was vocal in my opposition to the escalated use of drones.
Sure the person using them for the past 8 years was a rational man with a sharp mind and reasoned approach.
The one who can use them for the next 4 years...............not so much.

Current Policing and Other Public Policy Issues

I posted the below comments in a thread regarding Charlotte but decided to make this an OP.
Would really like to see what the distinguished community here at DU thinks.

The solutions to these problems are at the ballot box.

I know that isn't what people want to hear but it is the truth.
It isn't a quick solution.
It isn't easy and it requires our thoughtful participation.
Our job, like that of an elected official, does not end once our ballot is cast, we have to stay engaged to bring about meaningful change.

WE THE PEOPLE CAN fix many of these issues simply by getting out the vote.
An engaged and active electorate has more power to sway and influence public policy than any protest ever will.

Engage politicians at every level

Voice your concerns

Hold them accountable

Vote them out if they don't follow through with the will of the majority.

Show up and participate in public forums and demand they be held at times the majority of concerned citizens can attend

Engage your family, friends, neighbors and inform them of the FACTS concerning political figures statements, promises and records

Shape the discussion

Run for office

Get a job on the "inside" of the process

If we want the governmental institutions to change and policy to change we need to change the way we engage with those institutions and demand via the ballot box that changes be made.

We continue to do the same things and expect different results regarding our interaction with all levels of government.

Adding that I have been looking at voter participation rates at the census department and Pew Research websites and they show we can make a huge difference with strong voter participation.
