Watching the senate Keystone debate, a question:

To which oil company is Landrieu presenting her resume?

The Backasswardness of What Is Isn’t

When I was in 7th grade, way back in 1960, our girls’ gym class taught us the “push-up” that was deemed appropriate for us frail little flowers. I hadn’t thought of that in years, but was instantly reminded of it upon seeing this picture of Mike Coffman (R-CO) demonstrating (according to him) how rough tough Marines do it, a demonstration that prompted a couple of friends who happen to be former Marines to drop and prove him wrong (and they’re both older than me).

It occurs that Coffman provided, albeit unwittingly, a perfect illustration of the dubious reality behind the names GOPers like to affix to pieces of proposed legistlation. F’rinstance, how many “jobs” bills have as their real intent the dismantling of the Affordable Care Act? How many “for the American people” bills have, in reality, proposed gutting the middle class to the benefit of the ultra-wealthy? How many “helping the poor” bills have sought to reduce food and housing assistance? How many “support the troops” legislators have proposed bills that cut services to veterans and those still serving? How many women have come to understand that “pro-life” and “personhood” are euphemisms for the belief that women are simply worth less and need not be considered? How often do underpaid laborers who actually do the hard work hear themselves demonized while those made wealthy by the sweat of those workers are canonized as “job creators”? It goes on. The list is extensive and appalling.

Anyway, I’ll be thinking of how often we’re “coffman-ed”, and will mentally append this picture each time an insultingly mis-named bill is put forth.

Re-run: Ken Buck jumps back on personhood horse!

To absolutely no one's surprise...

...

You might not think Buck would dive into the personhood rabbit hole again, given how badly it went for him last time, with the embarrassing flip flipping and all. I mean, for Christ sake! But no. He's on personhood again!

Last month, as he was apparently looking ahead to taking a Republican leadership role in Congress, Buck endorsed the infamous Life at Conception Act, which aims to ban abortion by giving zygotes (fertilized eggs) legal protection as persons under the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

A candidate questionnaire produced by the National Pro-Life Alliance, an anti-abortion group sponsoring the federal measure, indicates that Buck would co-sponsor the Life at Conception Act, just as the man Buck's replacing, Cory Gardner, did before him.

A fracking accident on Thursday killed one worker and seriously injured two others at a rig site near Mead in Weld County.

The accident happened at an Anardarko Petroleum Corp. location during fracking operations run by Halliburton. It prompted Anadarko to suspend all fracking operations in the area as a safety measure.

Two other Halliburton employees were taken to Denver Health and Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland.

One dead following fracking accident near Mead

One person is confirmed dead and two people sustained serious injuries Thursday morning following a fracking accident at a rig site in Weld County.

Weld County Sheriff’s Office deputies are on scene investigating the accident. According to initial reports, the death and injuries were caused by a high-pressure water valve that either ruptured or exploded, said agency spokesman Sean Standridge.

The incident occurred at 9:30 a.m. at a rig site off of Weld County Road 9 1/2 just north of Colo. 66 near Mead.

As of 10:15 a.m., Flight for Life was on the ground preparing to transport the two survivors to a nearby hospital, Standridge said.

The operator of the rig has not yet been determined.

The Greeley Tribune will update this story as more details become available.
