madamesilverspurs's JournalRemind me: What is it that rolls downhill?
A few days ago I wrote about my concerns about some negative impacts of the new president and his complicit Congress. http://www.democraticunderground.com/10028804568
Well, it continues. I just got a call from the agency that provides housekeeping help for those tasks I can no longer perform (vacuuming, scrubbing the floor, etc.); they've been sending someone for two hours, twice a month. Their funding has been cut. They are now only allowed to send someone once a month.
I thought she was going to cry as she was telling me this, and I told her that I understand that this isn't her doing; I also told her about what happened with SNAP and what the housing office intimated. She said that her brother is in circumstances almost identical to mine, she's scared for him.
Some days it's just no fun to reside at the bottom of the hill.

Given what's coming out of the Comey hearing
Given what's coming out of the Comey hearing, shouldn't we be exercising extreme caution?
When the head of state is under a growing dark cloud of suspicion, his appointees are also under that cloud. Can we request that confirmation hearings be suspended?

Q Link ...?
It's for the free phones for low income people. I have one through another service, but it's tiny and I'm totally not able to use the texting function. Q Link is offering free Smart phones, but it sounds a bit too good to be true, and I haven't been able to find any info/reports from people who have used this service.
Anyone here have knowledge or experience with them?

Color Me Nervous
Actually, most days you can color me hyperventilatingly anxious after only 30 minutes of news.
The beginning of January brought the first Social Security check to include the whopping $3 cost of living adjustment. A couple weeks later I was notified by Social Services that the increase in my income was sufficient to warrant a reduction in my food assistance, so they cut my SNAP benefit by $8.
Ive screwed up by listening to Paul Ryan and Tom Price and Mick Mulvaney talk about what they intend to do to Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and pretty much all of the social safety net that seniors (like me) and the disabled (like me) and the poor (like me) depend on.
The local newspaper just ran a series on the critical dearth of affordable housing in our area, a scary reality with which I am well acquainted. Our property manager had brought the paperwork to renew the lease just a few days before that story came out; after initialing all 27 pages, I signed the renewal, and yes, the rent is going up next month.
This week the Housing office called to remind me of the annual recertification process for Section 8. Following the inspection, I took the paperwork to the office; as the caseworker reviewed it I asked if there would be any changes with the new guy in charge of HUD. She just shook her head and mumbled that no one knows what to expect.
This afternoon I spent an hour on the phone with my baby sister who entered her 60s last year. Shes the level-headed one in the family, and has done well enough to provide for them into their golden years. And she told me that shes had trouble sleeping ever since November. Seems theres plenty of nervous to go around. Dammit.
