Ken Buck pressured local official to submit incorrect election results

excerpted from the Greeley Tribune

Fellow Republican says congressman tried to pressure him into committing a crime

Colorado Republican Party Chair Ken Buck, a U.S. representative from Windsor, pressured a local party official to submit incorrect election results to set the primary ballot for a state Senate seat, according to an audio recording of a conference call obtained by The Denver Post.

“You’ve got a sitting congressman, a sitting state party chair, who is trying to bully a volunteer — I’m a volunteer; I don’t get paid for this — into committing a crime,” Eli Bremer, the GOP chairman for state Senate District 10, told The Post on Wednesday, confirming the authenticity of the recording. “To say it’s damning is an understatement.”
. . .
“Do you understand the order of the executive committee and the central committee that you will submit the paperwork to include Mr. Stiver and Mr. Liston on the ballot, with Mr. Liston receiving the top-line vote?” Buck said on the call.

“Uh, yes, sir, I understand the central committee has adopted a resolution that requires me to sign a false affidavit to the state,” Bremer replied.
“And will you do so?” Buck said.

Bremer: “I will seek legal counsel as I am being asked to sign an affidavit that states Mr. Stiver received 30% of the vote. I need to seek legal counsel to find out if I am putting myself in jeopardy of a misdemeanor for doing that. ”

Buck: “And you understand that it is the order of the central committee that you do so?”
Bremer: “I will consult with counsel. Yes, sir, I understand the central committee has ordered me to sign an affidavit stating that a candidate got 30% who did not. And I will seek legal counsel and determine if I am legally able to follow that.”
. . .
“How in the heck is the Republican Party going to go out and say we’re for the rule of law except when it applies to us — we can do whatever we want to?” Bremer said. “That’s not my Republican Party.”

Ken Buck currently occupies the House seat formerly held by Sen. Cory Gardner.

edit to add
Buck is a prime example of GOPers who fail upward, not surprising for someone who began his career working for then congressman Dick Cheney. He later worked at the Justice Department and lost that position over ethics violations. When he became Weld County's district attorney he was heavily involved in the immigration raid at the meat plant, where many questions still remain over warrant violations (yes, the same meat plant that has been much discussed on Maddow's program). Subsequent to that he was smacked by the state Supreme Court for violating the Constitution by confiscating records from a business that prepares tax returns for Hispanics. He also gained notoriety for refusing to prosecute an admitted rapist because of his opinion that the victim was merely experiencing 'buyer's remorse'. When Gardner ran for Senate, Buck 'won' the seat in a ridiculously gerrymandered red district. He'd barely unpacked his bags in DC when he tweeted that he'd lost his appetite when he saw Obama enter the same restaurant with a group Buck assumed to be 'dreamers' (they were actually students from the Standing Rock reservation). Then he posted a pic of himself and Trey Gowdy fondling Buck's rifle in his new office. And he was one of a handful to vote against the massive pandemic relief bill. He campaigned on the promise that he would take "Weld County bullshit" to Washington, and he has certainly kept that promise.

He's being challenged by Democrat Ike McCorkle. You can help us get rid of Buck by donating to Ike's campaign: https://ike4co.com/

Poison pill

The local newspaper hasn’t reported it, not yet anyway. And that’s rather concerning.

By way of explaining, Greeley CO is the county seat of Weld County. Said county, with a much smaller and less densely packed population, is second only to Denver in rates of infection. You may have seen the national coverage about our meat plant. The newspaper does track those numbers.

But what they have yet to mention is what took place at last night’s city council meeting. With some businesses starting to reopen, even as the Covid19 numbers continue to climb, there was a proposal to follow the example of Denver and other communities to require face masks in public. Basic common sense, that. The vote was 6 to 1 against.

The proposal had been offered by the only Democrat on the council. In his day job he works in the scheduling department of the hospital, he routinely speaks with those who are on the front lines. You can believe that his proposal was very well informed. But he’s a Democrat.

And there are still those who believe that partisanship can’t be deadly.
