Question for you, Mr. Trump

When he was running for President in 2008 John McCain routinely stated that he knew how to capture Bin Laden, and that he would implement that plan once elected. It rather felt like he was holding that positive outcome hostage, to be brought into daylight only if we paid the ransom in votes. Some of us thought that he should prove his much vaunted patriotism by taking that surefire plan to those who could act on it, regardless of who was in the Oval Office, because such action would be very real demonstration of the “Country First” attitude which informed his campaign slogan.

Now, Donald Trump is playing the same game with regard to dealing with ISIS. To be sure, unlike McCain, there is NOTHING in Trump’s personal history that even hints at the merest modicum of patriotism; he has zero experience with professional international intelligence, he’s never served in any military capacity, there is an appalling absence of veterans’ organizations testifying to his generous support, he has a very public record of using veterans as photo-op props, and yet he claims to “know more about ISIS than the generals.” And, like McCain, he has a guaranteed plan that will be put to work only upon his election.

Question for you, Mr. Trump: How well did that work for McCain?

Scorecard wannabe

If I had the time, I’d make a scorecard for the CinC forum. Not for the candidates, though; for Lauer. Just a side-by-side on things like how he enforced his stated rule of “not attacking your opponent”; how many times he interrupted the candidate; how many times he cut the candidate off; how many times he argued with a candidate’s statement, etc. But I’d have to watch the whole thing again, and my stomach hasn’t yet calmed down from watching the first time. So, with only the mental picture of such a scorecard, were I tasked with grading Lauer he’d pull an F. A big one.

Lousy umping, Lauer.

Nice way to hold Trump to the "no attacks against your opponent" rule.

Massive suckage, Lauer. Yuuuge suckage.

Did you see it?

You had to look fast. After several weeks of vacation the House gaveled back into session. They were hard at it for almost 15 minutes. Poor things were so exhausted by that effort that they had to recess for a few hours. Question: Do they have their graham crackers and milk before or after their nap?

Nice surprise for me!

I got a note from a friend saying that their ordered shirt had arrived. Yay! But I was pleasantly surprised when I saw what shirt it was. Last I knew, the team at the online store had removed the design; now it's back, and I'm not gonna ask or argue.

So, in case you might still want one, please check it out:

And thanks for looking!

John Lewis will be on with Colbert tonight.

What a breath of blessedly fresh air that will be after the toxic fumes of Trump's latest speech.
