madamesilverspurs's Journal"Gun Appreciation Day" -- really???
Good gawd. Well, we can probably be thankful that the putzes organizing this weren't around to stage "Iceberg Appreciation Day" in 1912, or "Torpedo Appreciation Day" in December of 1941. Let's just hope they don't have their little party in Newtown. Or Aurora. Or Tucson . . .

Bummer
Just got off the phone with an old friend. She got fired today. Stunned doesn't begin to describe how she's feeling. In her mid-50s, she has never been fired before. She's one of those solid, nose-to-the-grindstone, reliable types. She's a top rated CPA, her skills are excellent, she'll at least be able to find temporary work with tax season coming up.
The company didn't fault her work, they blamed Obamacare. Being the bookkeeper she knows that's a crock. But it still galls.
We'll be having coffee tomorrow. I'll mostly provide two ears to listen. But if you can think of anything to say that might be comforting, I'm listening now. Damn.

Boehner v. Sandy Relief
Is this Boehner's way of placating the Cantor bloc? If memory serves, Cantor is no fan of disaster relief.
Is the continued suffering of millions of Americans the price Boehner is willing to pay to retain his speakership?

"The American people" wait.
In fairness, as we await the decision of the House Republicans on the fiscal deal, we need to acknowledge that the congressional GOP is not entirely devoid of any record of accomplishment.
As the record clearly shows, they have established a rock solid inability to merit the trust of the citizens of this country.
They claim to act on behalf of "the American people", and their use of that phrase always always signals their intent to act against the best interests of their constituents.
