Today's Joke - Mon, 29 May 2017 (as seen on facebook)

The problem with Trump jokes:
Republicans don't think they're funny, and Democrats don't think they're jokes.

Anyone watching "America: Promised Land" ? (History Channel)

So far, they've very briefly noted the indigenous populations. But so far there is no mention of the forced migrations that moved them from their homes, nor any discussion of how they were otherwise "removed." Extraordinary omission, appalling.

Today, in the Safeway parking lot --

A rather burly fellow, forty-something, approached as I was putting my groceries in the car. He stopped, pointed at my prominent Hillary sticker and said, “I still can’t believe what happened.”

I answered with “And we thought W was awful.” He shook his head and said “Yeah, W was stupid but he wasn’t evil.”

“With him, he’d say or do something once a week; now it’s every day, sometimes every hour,” I said. “But we sure can’t stop now.”

He tried to smile as he almost whispered, “It’s hard. Most days I just feel like crying.”

“I know the feeling. But we have every reason to hang in there,” I said.

He gave a small thumbs-up as he walked away shaking his head.

And once more I’m glad that I chose to keep all those stickers.

Montana Surprise

The only real surprise coming out of the Montana election is that Trump hasn’t yet hired Gianforte to replace Spicer.

1 worker dies, 3 injured in Anadarko oil tank explosion in Mead: 'It was like 2 bombs going off'

An oil tank battery that exploded while workers performed maintenance off Colo. 66 near Colorado Boulevard in Mead has left one man dead, Weld County Sheriff's Office spokesman Matt Turner confirmed Thursday evening.

Mountain View Fire Battalion Chief Roger Rademacher originally said three workers working on site were injured and transported by ambulance — one with serious injuries and the two others with moderate injuries.

The oil tank battery is owned by Anadarko Petroleum Corporation, and the death marks the third fatality related to the oil and gas firm since mid-April. A Firestone house explosion on April 17 spurred the company to shut 3,000 wells across the state, leading Gov. John Hickenlooper to order a statewide review of oil and gas operations in the aftermath...

Note: This is just down the road from the house that exploded recently. Fracking.

Ben Carson is right. Sort of.

Ben Carson says that “poverty is a state of mind.” That’s true, but not in the way he meant it. It isn’t poverty’s victims who hold that perspective. Rather, poverty is a state of mind in those who have the power to create it. Poverty is a distinctly human circumstance; among millions of species, humans are the sole practitioners of the deliberate art of depriving their fellows.

On a planet where there is more than sufficiency in terms of food, millions go hungry because others find profit more desirable than compassion. In a nation where unoccupied homes outnumber those living on the street, the homeless are accused of choosing to freeze on the sidewalk. In a society where medicine and healing arts are increasingly effective, people suffer and die because that is deemed the more fiscally responsible avenue.

Poverty kills. And there is no deadlier strain of it than that which decides that human beings are of less value than the contents of a wallet. That particular poverty requires an emptiness of soul and spirit. It is, indeed, a state of mind that manifests in what it does TO others. To put it simply, need and greed may coexist; but only one has the power to create the other.

Think about that, Dr. Carson. Please.
