What's with the disembodied voices

on some of the new season television shows? First noticed on a Shatner show a couple days back, just now they're doing on "American Pickers". Some weird kind of narration, sometimes overlaps the dialogue. It's like being at the movies, and the people sitting behind you keep talking about the movie you're trying to watch. And it's a bit creepy. Dislike!
