California authorities raid home of anti-Planned Parenthood videographer (Daleiden)

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-nation/wp/2016/04/05/california-authorities-raid-home-of-anti-planned-parenthood-videographer/

Investigators with the California Department of Justice on Tuesday raided the home of David Daleiden, the anti-abortion activist behind a series of undercover videos targeting Planned Parenthood, the activist said.

Authorities seized a laptop and multiple hard drives from his Orange County apartment, Daleiden said in an email. The equipment contained all of the video Daleiden had filmed as part of his 30-month project, “including some very damning footage that has yet to be released to the public,” he said.

A spokeswoman for California Attorney General Kamala Harris (D) said she could not comment on an ongoing investigation. But the raid confirms that California is among the states looking into possible criminal activity on the part of Daleiden and his organization, the Center for Medical Progress, which have been the center of controversy since releasing videos purporting to show that Planned Parenthood illegally sells fetal tissue for a profit.

Commentary: Mossack Fonseca's blanket denials have no factual basis

http://www.caribbeannewsnow.com/topstory-Commentary%3A-Mossack-Fonseca's-blanket-denials-have-no-factual-basis-29917.html
Much more at the link-

The partners and the public relations people working for Mossack Fonseca have gone to great lengths to claim that the law firm merely formed corporations and foundations for valued clients, and was not involved in their financial matters. In truth and in fact, Mossack Fonseca was engaged in money laundering, as well as wealth management for their clientele, on a massive basis.

--snip--
(1) Mossack Fonseca employed over 120 sales staff worldwide in its wealth management branch, whose sole goal was to sign up clients. Their illicit funds would first be laundered, through bearer share Panamanian companies, and then invested, so that the client would realize a regular return on his or her illegally-acquired assets. There was a division of labour; money laundering was handled by one division and wealth management by another. Some these "investments" were arms trafficking into African countries caught up in civil wars; many of the others were for illegal or immoral purposes as well.

(2) Compliance officers at Mossack Fonseca were replaced and rotated every two months, which meant that nobody in compliance had the big picture about the clients who were engaged in criminal activities, or who were politically exposed persons (PEPs) banking bribe and kickback money. This short-term replacement also meant that Mossack Fonseca would not have to pay the ones who were let go severance, which is otherwise required under Panamanian employment law.

When the compliance officer ascertained that a new client was either a criminal, or subject to international or OFAC sanctions, or a corrupt PEP, management would tell her to disregard her information, because the Panamanian authorities would never discover that fact. Panama does have an abysmal record regarding arrests for money laundering. Simply put, there are none. Remember also, that Ramon Fonseca himself, while trying to defend his law firm, admitted that it does not always know the identity of the beneficial owner of a corporation that it forms for "valued clients." We call that willful blindness in the Money Laundering Control Act of 1986.

Reflections on the end of the GOP by Nick Hanauer

http://civicskunkworks.com/the-end-of-the-gop/

The Republican Party is coming apart, and if this disintegration wasn’t endangering our country and the world, it would be amusing. Much has already been said and written about this, so I am aware that this rant may add nothing to the conversation. But I think this political event was more predictable and is easier to understand than most people realize. And I think that Donald Trump himself has far less to do with the fall of the GOP than the GOP itself

-snip-

If there is one thing the Republican Party stands for and has effectively delivered on, it is trickle down economics. Trickle down economics has three major elements — tax cuts for the rich, deregulation of the powerful, and wage suppression for everyone else — all in the name of “growth.” And the Republican Party (with unfortunate cooperation from some Democrats), has been extraordinarily effective in the promulgation of these ideas. Over the last 35 years, middle-class voters from both parties bought this scam hook, line, and sinker.

-snip-

They screwed you by holding down the minimum wage.

They screwed you by almost completely eliminating overtime pay.

They screwed the union that used to defend your interests.

The screwed you out of the pension on which the middle-class once retired.

They screwed you a thousand ways on trade, and exported your job.

They screwed you on tax policy by lowering taxes on the rich.

They screwed you on infrastructure and education investment.

They screwed you by deregulating the banks.

They screwed you out of your home during the housing bubble and subsequent collapse.

They screwed you on health care costs.

They screwed you on the cost of college and on student debt.

They screwed you (and sent your kids to die) in the Iraq war.

And then they also screwed you on abortion, and gay marriage, and the “War on Drugs,” and women’s rights, and minority rights, and Obamacare repeal, and all the other things you culturally care about, by delivering absolutely nothing.

In debate, Republicans replace bad behavior with bad answers

http://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/debate-republicans-replace-bad-behavior-bad-answers?cid=sm_fb_maddow#discussions
It’s honestly difficult to think of any area of public policy the Republicans candidates described accurately. They were wrong about basic, factual details regarding the economy, the environment, foreign policy, the budget, Social Security, education, and defense spending, among other things.

When presidential candidates say wrong things in a calm demeanor, it’s hardly a triumph. Our collective expectations for the GOP field have fallen to such a low level that watching them make bogus claims about reality for two hours seems impressive – because no one held up their hands to show how big they are.

As for the broader political context, it’s unlikely last night’s debate will have a significant impact on the race overall. Trump’s rivals not only kept the gloves on, they seemed to pull every punch, making no real effort to take the frontrunner down a peg. The New York Republican, meanwhile, shifted his tone, presenting himself as the likely nominee who no longer feels the need to knock the rivals he’s already defeating.

Trump supporter punches protester in the face, appears to get a pass from cops.

Is it fascism yet?
There appear to be 5 or more uniformed officers within 10-feet and the offender seems to get a free pass.

And Then Insanity Struck The Republican Campaign Trail – 8 Mind-Numbing Examples

http://samuel-warde.com/2016/02/and-then-insanity-set-in/

Mitt Romney Warns of Possible ‘Bombshell’ in Trump’s Taxes – While I get that establishment Republicans want to go all-out in their efforts to destroy Donald Trump’s campaign – couldn’t they get someone without Mitt Romney’s history of controversy regarding tax returns to lead the charge? Seriously!

Will U.S. Conservatives Mount a Third-Party Challenge If Trump Is the Nominee? – There is speculation that key members of the conservative movement, including financiers like the Koch brothers, are willing to lead a third-party challenge if Trump wins the nomination for the sole purpose of guaranteeing his loss to Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders, whichever ends up winning the nomination.

5. Rubio Endorser Stumped When Asked To Name One Thing He’s Done That’s Presidential – A recent Marco Rubio endorser, freshman Rep. Cresent Hardy (R-NV), drew a blank when asked by MSNBC host Thomas Roberts ““Is there one thing you can name, over the last year, you have seen firsthand on the Hill that he has done that demonstrates presidential character? To be able to get things done?” Hardy responded, “On the Hill, I have not seen that. He’s been running for a presidential race most of this year.” Rubio has drawn heavy criticism for his record of absenteeism in his first Senate term, including mockery from former Gov. Jeb Bush (R-FL) for adopting a “French work week.” Hardy went on to note that Rubio’s prior record was not all that much better. “As far as his policies in the past,” he continued, “I know he’s done some things that might even be a little frustrating for a individual like myself, at times.
