Fisheries Collapse in Alaska Kenai collapse

[link:https://craigmedred.news/2018/07/31/kenai-collapse/|

Alaska’s most famous salmon river is heading into August on the cusp of an unprecedented salmon collapse.

Not since 1979, when the 49th state was still battling back from a salmon crash caused by less than stellar fisheries management and a two-decade-long, cold-water regime in the North Pacific Ocean, has the Kenai River neared the end of July with so few sockeye salmon in-river.

The sockeye failure has forced a temporary closure in the commercial fishery that looks to become permanent even as anger level rises; an early end to the popular personal-use dipnet fishery that helps tens of thousands of Alaskans fill their freezers in the name of food security; a no-harvest rule in the fading fishery for the rivers once famous Chinook, and a reduction in the sport-fish bag limit for sockeye salmon which has come fuel a good chunk of the Kenai Peninsula tourism industry.

Hand-out news an Article by Craig Medred

https://craigmedred.news/2018/07/31/hand-out-news/

The climbing season on North America’s tallest mountain is now well over, and if it feels like you missed it, well, there’s a reason.

And that involves a story not about mountaineering, but about how news gets delivered or doesn’t in these United States in the second decade of the new millennium.

In this case, a fair bit of the news never arrived, though it was out there. But it’s pretty much pointless to talk about this without first explaining how the news works today.

(a great article...alaskan journalism at it's finest)

State biologists have killed four black bears at a campground near Muldoon Road, after reports of bears tearing open tents looking for food.

Ken Marsh, a spokesman for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, said Wednesday afternoon that biologists killed a sow and three cubs at the Centennial Park Campground, off the Glenn Highway near Muldoon.

“Apparently the sow was tearing into a tent with somebody in it when we got the report,” Marsh said.

PP CS 5.5 exported mp4 audio

I made a slideshow with an audio soundtrack. I exported it to a usb thumbdrive. It plays back wonderfully on my computer...but when plugged into a dvd player it will only playback the video. It gives an error message that audio format is not supported. is there a setting I can use when creating and exporting a slideshow that will allow it to be played on a computer and a television from a thumbdrive?
