WTF! Free yoga classes suspended over accusation of cultural appropriation

and that "certain groups of people that feel left out in yoga-like spaces".

A free yoga class that has been given at the University of Ottawa for six years was suspended this year by the Center for Students with Disabilities even though the classes were designed to include those with disabilities.

According to THe Ottawa Sun the Center stated that "yoga has been under 'a lot of controversy lately' as a result of how it is being practiced and which cultures those practices are 'being taken from."

Staff from the center also expressed that many of those cultures 'experienced oppression, cultural genocide and Diasporas due to colonialism and western supremacy'. The center official went on to say that 'we need to be mindful of this and how we express ourselves while practicing yoga'.

The yoga teacher says she only focuses on the physical aspect and never on the spiritual aspect so cultural appropriation doesn't apply. She also says that "she is willing to change the name of the program from yoga to 'mindful stretching' as a compromise" but the Student Union which runs the program rejected that option.


Personally I find the notion of appropriation to be absurd given that through-out history people having been doing just that and its by "appropriating" other cultures that all cultures develop. Romans appropriated Greek culture and its gods. Christians and Muslims appropriated Judaism, Greek philosophy, pagan beliefs and pagan symbols. The list is ad infinitum.

Assuming the haters are right and the refugees indeed are bloodthirsty terrorists, what does Jesus say about being confronted by "enemies"? Jesus says

What exactly is being preached in American churches cause hearing all this hate towards refugees one must conclude a lot of churches sure as hell ain't preaching anything Jesus said.

Very big difference between refugees and asylum seekers.

Refugees like those slated to arrive in the US and Canada are people who have already been vetted in refugee camps. Asylum seekers, like those flooding into Europe, have not been vetted.

Didnt catch her name but she just wrote a book called ISIS Rising. She makes the point that there are ISIS sympathizers throughout the world who are home-grown. These sympathizers, who fit in and know their respective cities, make the best terrorists as they don't stick out.

Need something really uplifting? Twin bros try to save Benin's trees with eco-friendly oven

With hard work and a little elbow grease, two brothers are trying to make eco-friendly gestures a part of everyday life in the small West African nation of Benin. They may be on the right path with their latest invention: a multifunction oven that could help slow down the widespread deforestation in the country.

Franck and Francis have made a name for themselves in Cotonou thanks to their work with Zacoza, a pioneering group dedicated to coming up with new inventions to help protect the environment. The group focuses in particular on fighting back against the rampant deforestation that has stripped Benin bare and left only 30% of the land covered with trees.

As well as coming up with new inventions themselves, they travel the length and breadth of Benin showing their fellow compatriots how to consume less. Their flagship product is an eco-friendly multifunction oven that can be used not only at home, but also at work on an industrial scale. They've named the project 'Atingan', a word that means 'the tree is saved' in Fon, a dialect widely spoken in Benin. Instead of relying on wood, the oven relies on an entirely new type of fuel: palm kernel shells.

Our oven can be used to carry out a bunch of tasks. Obviously it can be used to cook, but it can also be hooked up to a home's pipe network to heat up water or to heat up a house in general. Everyone can use our product as they wish: traders have even adapted bigger models to cook poultry using as little energy as possible!

It's possible that the attacks were not orchestrated by Syrian ISIS but

by a group of French ISIS sympathizers. Personally I think a group of French Islamist asshats got their pants in a knot over the death of Jehadi John and this was their knee jerk reaction. The fact that this happened on right after the assassination seems too much of a coincidence.

I don't see these attacks as something that the so-called caliphate would want as it is being pounded by Russians and losing territory. Is slaughtering 140 French people enough of a "win" given the size of the retaliation that will occur?
