Hillary Helps Swiss Bank Avoid IRS—and Then It Funnels Millions to the Clintons

snip

How can mainstream Democratic Party beliefs about the corrupting effects of money in politics and the perniciousness of Big Finance possibly be squared with elevating as their leaders a couple as cozy with Big Finance as anyone in American politics?

snip

Even Democrats who aren’t concerned about the agenda of Big Finance ought to ask themselves if America is best served by a president and first spouse who care so little about preserving the confidence that the public can reasonably have in the integrity of their actions. They are far from the only members of our elite who’ve put a payday ahead of the common good, but it’s hard to think of a more flagrant example.

Background information

snip

“A few weeks after Hillary Clinton was sworn in as secretary of state in early 2009, she was summoned to Geneva by her Swiss counterpart to discuss an urgent matter. The Internal Revenue Service was suing UBS AG to get the identities of Americans with secret accounts,” the newspaper reports. “If the case proceeded, Switzerland’s largest bank would face an impossible choice: Violate Swiss secrecy laws by handing over the names, or refuse and face criminal charges in U.S. federal court. Within months, Mrs. Clinton announced a tentative legal settlement—an unusual intervention by the top U.S. diplomat. UBS ultimately turned over information on 4,450 accounts, a fraction of the 52,000 sought by the IRS.”

Then reporters James V. Grimaldi and Rebecca Ballhaus lay out how UBS helped the Clintons. “Total donations by UBS to the Clinton Foundation grew from less than $60,000 through 2008 to a cumulative total of about $600,000 by the end of 2014,...And it paid former president Bill Clinton $1.5 million to participate in a series of question-and-answer sessions with UBS Wealth Management Chief Executive Bob McCann, making UBS his biggest single corporate source of speech income disclosed since he left the White House.”

...Maybe it’s all a mere coincidence, and when UBS agreed to pay Bill Clinton $1.5 million the relevant decision-maker wasn’t even aware of the vast sum his wife may have saved the bank or the power that she will potentially wield after the 2016 presidential election.

Secret recording of one speech Hilliary gave to Wall Street.

If ya go to a dance, ya gotta dance with the one who brung ya. A Hillary win

and Hillary will be doing a stately dance with her big donors, in the corridors of power and her dance card is full.

A Bernie win and Bernie will be dancing in the streets with those who've taken him to the White House. Millions of Americans are ready for America to have a brand new beat.

Come on, join us, form that big strong line.

Make no mistake those who have paid lavishly to bring Hilliary to their dance know she'll be dancing with them because Hillary and they know that you gotta dance with the ones that brung ya.

So how did Bernie staffers get Culinary Union buttons, if not from someone in the Union?

Either someone low on the totem pole in the Union thought this was a good idea and handed out buttons to Bernie's people or the Union gives out buttons to whoever asks for one.

Whatever happened this isn't subterfuge as the Bernie staffers were talking to union members in plain sight.

It sounds to me like the Union has responded the way it has because they have taken a position of being neutral and they are concerned this incident undermines that.

Camp Weathervane is clutching their pearls because an AARP logo appears in a Bernie mailer

Hardly a capital offense but obviously Hillary and her billionaire Wall Street buddies have the funds to hire minions to sift through every and anything looking for something, anything at throw at Bernie.

It is worth noting that AARP called out Obama when he mentioned the organization twice in his first debate with Romney.

It wasn't a big deal then nor is it now.

I've a different take on Hilary desperate calls for another debate.

I think Hils internal polling shows Bernie will either win both Iowa and NH or that Iowa is too close to call. However it turns out, this was not how it was supposed to be so I doubt she nor anyone else on her team planned on her being in this position.

Given all resources and time Team Hillary has spent in Iowa, I don't think its a stretch to say it will be a considerable blow for her to see a repeat of 2008.

The upshot is that I think she and her team are desperate to find ways to keep her spirits up and what better way to do that preparing for and participating in a heated debate. Basically she needs to stay in "the zone" for SC rather than in the Slough of Despond but that will be difficult to do if all she does till NH is meet small groups of polite supporters in lacklustre bowling alleys.

I hope Bernie lets her flap in the wind and if there are to be more debates, they need to be planned in advance.

Clinton breaks the mold by cashing in before winning the Oval Office

snip

The New York Times reported last year that the Clintons earned $139 million from 2007 to 2014.

snip

Defenders are free to mention Republican ex-presidents who charged hefty speaking fees. George W. Bush reportedly fetches $100,000 to $175,000 for a speech. Clinton, however, breaks the mold by cashing in before winning the Oval Office. Check writers are looking ahead, not behind, with a reasonable expectation of friendly treatment.

snip

"You don't think they expect anything in return?" "Meet the Press" host Chuck Todd asked Clinton on Sunday. "Absolutely not," Clinton answered. She said she took on the big banks as a U.S. senator.

A 2013 Politico story paints a different picture. After questioning attendees of a Clinton Goldman Sachs speech, Politico reported, "What the bankers heard her to say was just what they would hope for from a prospective presidential candidate: Beating up the finance industry isn't going to improve the economy -- it needs to stop."

Yes I know this is a conservative rag however who can argue with the fact that unlike republicans who cashed in after leaving office "Clinton breaks the mold by cashing in before winning the Oval Office".

The Town Hall revels the conniving depths of Camp Weathervane

No surprise that Clinton has the advantageous position of being the closer in tonight's Town Hall.

But what is a surprise is that she and O'Malley won't be sharing the stage with Bernie. Nope. According to DemocratSinceBirth those two will be sitting somewhere else which gives both of them time to craft rebuttals to Bernie. Of course Bernie won't be extended that courtesy.

They could have run three concurrent town halls, taping two of them and running the first live.

But that wouldn't be advantageous to a disingenuous pol like Hillary.
