Esquire article on Zimmerman trial

Focus is on the interrogation of Zimmerman 3 days after the
shooting. The person interviewing him will likely be prime
witnesses for the prosecution.

Some very good comments after the article as well.

Something I didn't realize is that there was no blood spatter
on Zimmerman. How can this be, if he was underneath him?

Only two people know, but one of them is dead -- means only one person knows.

The other knew, but can not speak for himself.
We presume his innocence, as there is no reason
to find him guilty of anything.

We try to piece together his story, together, to
understand what happened, to support the
cause of justice and give him a voice.

Truly -- probably not even Zimmerman knows
what happened.. I guarantee he has already
rewritten his own memories. It's a coping
and survival mechanism. The killer must
find some goodness in himself or he will
perish, so he starts rewriting history immediately,
inside his own head.

it's also hard to be motivated to eat when you are

discouraged and broke. it's especially hard to
be motivated to prepare fresh meals.

I wonder if it begins in our neighborhoods, our
own neighbors. Government assistance, changes,
are unpredictable, and too slow even when
they work. It has to start with us.

Not far from here, a friend of mine lives in a
neighborhood which has virtually adopted a
homeless man. He lived in his truck and
now lives in his car, which he parks at the
end of the cul-de-sac. Neighbors share their
showers and meals, have coffee with the
guy, and more. He is part of the neighborhood,
he lives there. He's not alone. People treat
him with respect.

This doesn't help your friend directly -- but she
isn't too far from where I may be soon, so
it's provoking much thought.

I'm realizing I don't even know if all the
people on my own street have enough to
eat day to day.

The basis of the Zimmerman charge for Second-Degree Murder?

Murder with a Depraved Mind

Murder with a Depraved Mind occurs when a person is killed,
without any premeditated design, by an act imminently dangerous
to another and evincing a depraved mind showing no regard for human life.

The primary distinction between Premeditated First Degree Murder and
Second Degree Murder with a Depraved Mind is that First Degree Murder
requires a specific and premeditated intent to kill.

I would think manslaughter would be much easier
to prove, this seems risky. I confess to being a non-legal expert
and welcome input from you wonderful people who understand
this stuff.

Following the trial as much as I can... the jury may convict
Zimmerman simply because his lawyers are so boring and
obnoxious...
