I received a letter today from President Barack Obama.

Dear Mike:
Thank you for the moving letter you sent this spring. I was touched by your words, and saddened to learn of the passing of your father, Patrick.
Stories like your father's remind me why I ran for this office in the first place, and I trust you take great pride in his legacy of service and in the values he passed ...on to you. Please know your message will remain in my thoughts, and I will not stop fighting to build a brighter future for our nation.
Sincerely,
Barack Obama

------------------my letter to President Obama 5/20/2013-------------------

Dear President Obama,
My father and I met you in July of 2004 at the Depue, Illinois VFW. It was just a few weeks after your address before the Democratic Convention. I was the last person in line to shake your hand after you had addressed the people gathered to meet you. I told you I was not sure you understood or were aware of the hope and promise that people saw in you. As you signed a copy of your convention speech that I had brought with me, I added, "Don't get the big head when you get to Washington, DC." You motioned to Michele and said, "She won't let me."
Neither of you have disappointed me. Both of you have inspired me as you have held your poise and grace in the face of vitriol most extreme and regrettable. But you should never lose sight of the fact that for every bitter voice there are many more that quietly admire and respect you.
My father passed over on March 3rd of this year. His last few years were a struggle. His last days were hard. As we talked the day before he passed into the Great Silence he told me he was glad he had lived long enough to see you re-elected. A life-long Democrat, a former precinct committeeman, he took great comfort knowing you were putting this nation back on the path of prosperity and respectibility. You gave my father something to smile about during his long goodbye. For that I am forever grateful.
Respectfully,
Mike Kohr

A SMILE
A smile is a very special thing. It costs nothing, but gives so much.
It creates happiness in the home. It fosters goodwill in business.
It is rest to the weary, daylight to the discouraged, sunshine to the sad.
It happens in a flash, but the memory of it sometimes lasts forever.
Yet it cannot be begged, bought, or stolen.
It is something that is of no value to anyone until it is given away.
Some people are too tired to give you a smile. Give them one of yours.
For no one needs a smile as much as he who has no more to give.

Record Deficit Reduction and Strongest Job Growth in 8 years

Super Deficit Reducer
-President Obama-

You'd never know this fact if all you listened to was the Chicken Little, sky is falling crowd, of Faux Gnus. And if all you listened to was the Nixon aide, turned right-wing propaganda huckster, Roger Ailes's, fact free network, you certainly would not be aware that President Obama's deficit reduction results would be even greater if the obstructionist Congress would allow the President to remove the biggest single contributors to today's yearly deficits, namely the George W. Bush era tax give-a-ways to the rich.

?

Republicans ran the economy over a cliff, put in place spending and tax policies that exploded the debt, and then after America elected Barack Obama as President, engaged in unprecedented obstructionism all the while crying that President Obama is not fixing their catastrophic failures quickly enough.
Most amazing in all this, is that on a political level, the Republican Party and Faux Gnus has succeeded. Most Americans are not aware that President Obama's economic policies have actually shrunk the yearly deficit both in raw numbers, and in relation to GDP, the only true way to examine the size of the national debt from administration to administration.

?

?

In the fiscal year 2008-2009, the last year of George W. Bush's budgets, the yearly deficit was $1.4 trillion dollars. According to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) the upcoming 2014 deficit will : "shrink this year to $845 billion, or 5.3 percent of gross domestic product (GDP), its smallest size since 2008."

Steve Benen of the Maddow Blog, notes that this is the fastest deficit reduction since the end of World War II and at the same time resulted in the strongest job creation in 8 years.

For the math impaired Republican Party and their hair on fire friends at Faux Gnus that is a reduction of $555 billion or a reduction of 40%. In raw numbers, -the misleading numbers that Faux Gnus uses- this is more deficit reduction than all other presidents in history combined.

Adversity presents opportunity, and President Obama, like every other Democratic President was presented with the opportunity to fix a failed economy from his Republican predecessor. President Obama has achieved historic accomplishment because in part he was presented with a a failure of epic proportions.

Republican criticism of the President is nothing more than they wishing to be the hero of their own self inflicted disaster.

A Letter From A Former Letter Carrier

I'm a former rural letter carrier who proudly carried the mail for 10 years. Prior to that I spent 17 miserable years as a supervisor/dispatcher at United Parcel Service. I'm 56 years old now and my Postal job was the only one I ever loved. But I left the Post Office 6 years ago to work as a grunt in a local warehouse because I saw the writing on the wall.

In our local zip code area the Postal Service has 63 offices, UPS and Fed Ex one apiece. Saturday delivery needed to go. Every postal employee knows it, even if they won't admit it. But small town rural post offices are the real sink holes. The indirect subsidization of rural America through rural Post Offices will bring down the entire Postal system. The math is cold, but clear.

You can take the assinine rules Congress makes the Post Office play by away, but if these tiny, unprofitable black holes remain they will suck the Postal Service dry.

Small towns squeal like stuck pigs when their Post Offices are threatened and claim the offices are the last bit of glue holding them together. Offer each of them the option of keeping the offices open through subsidization of the Postal facility with local property taxes. See how many towns take you up on this offer.

The residents of these small towns will still have their mail delivered, but far cheaper and more efficiently by rural letter carriers. In fact many people in small towns that live along an existing rural route put up mail boxes and would rather have their mail delivered to their homes instead of trying to make it to the Post Office after work.

By all means get Congress, it's meddling, and in some cases out-right hostility out of the Postal Service's attempts to remain competitive, but do not think that these changes are not needed. Not if you really love and hope the Postal Service will continue to be a part of the fabric of America.

I won re-election tonight to the Illinois Bureau County Board with 71% of the vote

I extend a heart felt thank you to the voters of Depue, Hollowayville and the rest of district 18 in your extending to me again the priviledge of being your representative on the Bureau County Board. I will not dissapoint your faith in me.

And I wish to extend a special note of thanks to my DU friends and the DU community. You have all been an inspiration to me and a reminder that people do care. They care very much about the political process in this nation and the importance of engagement and participation.

Sincerely,

The One Line From "America The Beautiful," That Romney NEVER Sings, NEVER recites -for good reason-

Romney is fond of singing and reciting verses of the 1893 poem “Pikes Peak,” written by Kathy Lee Bates, that is today known as “America the Beautiful.” There are two lines from that poem however that he never recites, he never sings.

Till selfish gains no longer stain,
The banner of the free!

I can’t help but believe that Mrs. Bates took inspiration for those lines from the example of Jesus throwing the money changers out of the Temple. Romney avoids those two lines because they are a damning indictment of his life and his vision of America. Mitt Romney is a modern day money changer looting the temple of Democracy. He is not one of us. He is not for us. He does not stand with us.

Romney was sweating like a liar during a polygraph test.

Which in fact these debates are. Willard has a history when it comes to secrecy, dishonesty and all around weirdness.

Weird Willard, from the mouth of a Massachusetts State Health Professional

Willard is weird, uncomfortable, awkward and oh so corporate. That's who he is. Last summer I sat in a seat on a plane next to a Health Professional with state government in Massachusetts. She said the Romney administration had every study done by her office cleared by Romney's office before it could be released. This never happened before, or since.

She said Romney was a "strange man" and she was very uncomfortable around him and his staff. She was stunned when he bought and destroyed the hard drives of every computer in the Governor's office when he left office. I asked her, "Isn't this what a person would do if he did not want anyone to know what went on during his administration?" She had a one word answer. "Yes."

To borrow a line from "The Great Gatsby," -The rich are different-."

Willard, the Joe Isuzu of Politics, Just Got Recalled

?

?

Jim Sinegal, co-founder of Costco says, “… we need companies that plant and grow, not executives that reap and run.” While men like John Mitchell and my grandfather’s built this nation one shovel full at a time, Romney has made his millions tearing companies apart and outsourcing our jobs to China. Romney loves America. He does! He loves America the way a tick loves a dog. Middle Class America can’t stand any more love’n like that.

Mitt Romney, the son of power and privilege, was born on third base, thinking he hit a home run. His vision of America is a sugar coated, Ayn Rand, survival of the fittest philosophy of “I got mine, the hell with you 47% ‘ers.”

Romney is fond of singing and reciting verses of the 1893 poem “Pikes Peak,” written by Kathy Lee Bates, that is today known as “America the Beautiful.” There are two lines from that poem however that he never recites, he never sings.

We need a President and leaders in Congress that will represent all of America. We do not need leaders like Romney and Ryan that are ready to write off ½ the people of this nation. President Obama and our Democratic leaders in Congress will strengthen and preserve Medicare and Social Security the two most successful poverty prevention programs in history. But we should never forget that every single House Republican voted to replace Medicare with a coupon, and they will kill Social Security if they get a chance.

When Republican's Bring Up JFK's Tax Cuts, They Are Not Telling The Truth. -here it is-

written by Steve Benen a contributing writer to the Washington Monthly

-clip
So, let’s set the record straight. When Kennedy cut taxes, he lowered the top marginal tax from 91% to 65%. Many congressional Republicans opposed his plan at the time, citing concerns that the treasury couldn’t afford such a tax break — the Republican Party used to be quite serious about fiscal responsibility, but it’s been a half-century — but Kennedy proceeded anyway because the higher rates, instituted during World War II, were no longer necessary.

Also at the time, the country had very little debt — Eisenhower, thankfully, kept taxes high throughout the 1950s — almost no deficit. Fiscal conditions, obviously, are far different now.

Keep in mind, unlike contemporary GOP policy, Kennedy’s plan distributed “peace dividends” broadly across the wage spectrum. As the Joint Committee on Internal Revenue Taxation explained at the time, the bottom 85% of the population received 59% of the benefits of JFK’s tax cut. The top 2.4% received 17.4% of the tax cut, and the top 0.4% received just 6% of it.Those on the right who see themselves as descendents of the Kennedy policy are either deeply confused or they assume you won’t bother to learn the truth.

Remember the character Doug Neidermeyer from "Animal House?" Turns out it was based on Mitt Romney. But unlike the character in the movie who went to Vietnam, Romney got 4 deferments and palled around France with cheese eating surrender monkeys.

Hit on link below to read the article, "Mitt, the prep school sadist." http://www.salon.com/2012/05/10/mitt_the_prep_school_sadist/

Remember as appalling as was his behavior then, the fact he is lying about it now is even more pathetic.
Character counts.
