With all due respect

Rachel isn't one of us.

My Father (whose beautiful soul is in heaven) was black - my mother is still alive and white.

Rachel has two white parents.

TBH - It's pretty insulting to imply that she has had my same life experiences, family experience etc. etc.

Here it comes - 'bi-racial kids are fucked up because this white woman who tans a lot and wears a wig is fucked up'.

SHE IS NOT ONE OF US. .

Yes - I was ^ yelling ^ - because I'm insulted. Her parents didn't get run off the road when her mother was close to full term with her older brother - Mine did. That's the reality for REAL mixed race families in the late 1960's / early 1970's in Kentucky.

I'm not driving into every. single. fucking. experience. I've had.

But please - knock it off.

This was 'settled' to white Americans satisfaction led when a black man with a white mother entered the White House.

At no time ever have all the bigots in this piece of shit inherently racist country EVER accepted him as white -

Except when they want to be little bigoted snots.

Find another analogy - she doesn't have the life experience of a bi-racial person -

Comparing her to us - it's just fucking bullshit. And you know it is. You know it.

Why would anyone go into politics for respect?

Great quote from O"Malley - and a great article if you haven't seen it before-

http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2014/12/the-long-shot/382238/

“People in our country can become very famous overnight,” he pointed out. Besides, he went on, laughing: “Why would anyone go into politics for respect? You don’t go into politics for respect. You go into politics to get something done

May 30, 2015

That's why I'm ready for O'Malley

But rest assured - she will not appoint a person to the SCOTUS that would rule in favor of not allowing black women (in particular due to disparities in our criminal justice system) to vote.

I live in Hunterdon County NJ - just 10/15 minutes from the Bucks County PA border. I was getting rural Eastern PA, elderly, shut ins, people without cars to the polls in 2008. In 2012 - due to a discriminatory voter ID law, PA was a nail biter - specifically in Philly. If that Governor had been successful - the Pennsyltuckys would have determined those EC votes.

This isn't three dimensional chess or political gamesmanship, this is real. The Republicans have taken over local and state governments. They have a strangle hold in the House until 2020. The Rs have a lot of seats in play in 2016 in the Senate. I'm not sure we can be successful - but we can try.

If we aren't successful - as of 8 am today - the only thing standing between us these awful people - just awful and rotten to the core is going to be a woman named Clinton, or a man named Sanders, or a man named O'Malley. Not a single one will allow gerrymandering that disenfranchises us all (liberals/progressives) any more than we have already been.

When I left Western NY in 2006 for the warmth of more prosperous suns - there were about 700 K reasonable, sane people in the greater Rochester area. There were a half million people in all of Wyoming. I want to make sure the reasonable people don't have their districts dissolved into Genessee and Wayne counties. And rest assured those assholes in the House would love nothing more than to take the power of the voters in Rochester away.

The SCOTUS appointments that will happen in the next Administration are the long game for a lot of people. Our baby boomers are going to be a huge population. We can't give up seats to Gerry Mandering that will be filled with cruel people who have zero respect for how they changed the world for women, minorities, the GLBT community, etc etc.

The biggest users of my community kitchens ovens this winter were elderly men in my community who never quite learned how to *cook* - but could use our gas ovens for a few hours to keep their utility bills down - and learn in the process. This is the 6th wealthiest county in America - and our poor aren't poor enough for Republicans. Our elderly aren't cold enough, and our children aren't hungry enough.

So in my subject line I said I'm ready for O'Malley. But I'm also ready for Hillary or Sanders - or even Webb.

They won't throw us away and appoint another ass wipe like Scalia or Alito who are just there to serve the Kochs.

Respectfully Disagree - That's not why orpupilofnature57 was blocked

In Late Summer and early fall of 2014 orpupil came into the group, dropped bombs - then went about deleting them so we wouldn't have a record.

Orpupil then ignored the group/until there was a perfect opportunity to come in and drop disrespectful one liners to two of the group hosts. Neither of us are Clinton supporters/boosters.

Three times we politely asked orpupil to leave.

Then orpupil put (per a post there made by orpupil) two of the Group Hosts on ignore.

And since orpupil had us on ignore AFTER we politely asked him/her to leave - he/she couldn't see our explanation.

We aren't as heavy handed as many groups on DU - and are pretty tolerant - unless someone is disrespectful to the group or a regular participant. That's what happened.

For the record - there is no grand, great love for Hillary back there. You might want to take a look see at some of LiberalStalwart's posts.

Right now - we are all over the board.

You offered not one fact that she was an agent for this Oligarchy of which you speak - just one liners. Not one explanation.

And now you continue.

But that's AOK - because everyone else can see for themselves what really happened there.

We don't have a 'work space' - group hosts at DU. And our group host team believes in transparency and politely asking people to leave. So it's all there to see. It's all there.

I voted to leave it as I don't see how you broke TOS. Making a suggestion here - measure your words and how you approach things.

I'm on board. I've found quoting Republican Gomorrah to be quite effective at getting my point across.

High lighting Dobson, connecting into the Prince/Devos clan (they've been funding this bullshit Dominionst agenda for years), etc etc.

The minute you bring up Erik Prince (he used to wn the company Blackwater) you gain allies.

I'm a UU and have been in the Braintree Church ( the one Abigail Adams father was a pastor at) - I'm a believer in the philosophy of a Jewish Rabbi - but much like John Adams - see no need for the words of that person (of two human beings none of that virgin birth nonsense for me) to be imprinted on the laws of America.

Dominionists are at war with the Founding Fathers desire to not see religion imposed on the people of this country in a way that gives us bullshit like the 100 years war.

So welcome to DU! There are some UUs here as well as agnostics and atheists and they see things as they are. They see these people who manipulate and twist to drive a Christian Theocratic Government into America.

Just quote Republican Gomorrah, The Family, etc etc when you post - and when all else fails go to Erik Prince.

What do you think of Maverick PAC? You familiar with it it? He spoke at their big meeting last September. And his words were kind of chilling. And these are the "under 40 Republicans" that are getting into local and state government and attacking from the under belly. We've got one on our local school board that my local No Labels chapter is going after with a vengeance.

One more thing - when you have a former Governor of Utah who is a Mormon and a former ambassador to China in the Obama Administration and Joe Manchin coming together to wake people up - you have the beginning of a movement. Look into a local No Labels chapter - in NJ we are pulling from all political ideology and saying "this is what we agree on. How can we stop Christie - how can we stop the TEAS (I think they are Dominionst in core philosophy) and grab hold of our local governments now in case we have a Religious freak like Ted Cruz as the President.

Christie is just rotten - but Cruz - is frightening.

Donta Allen - man in police van with Mr Gray refutes WaPo story

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/04/30/donta-allen-freddie-gray-_n_7186288.html

Gray was already in the van when cops arrested Allen on stealing accusations. Because of a barrier dividing the rear of the police van into two sections, Allen didn't see Gray and initially didn't realize that there was another passenger inside the vehicle.

"There's no place where a man can hurt himself in there," Allen said.

The Washington Post story that cited the police document immediately came under attack by other reporters, such as WBAL's Jayna Miller, who has reported Gray was unresponsive when police locked him inside the van.

Allen on Thursday distanced himself from what investigators say he told them.

"I told homicide that. I don't work for the police," he said in the WBAL interview. "I did not tell the police nothing."

So those who believed him yesterday - do you believe him today?

So interesting in light of the events in Baltimore this week

I wonder what Rummy (a nod to The Boondocks) thinks of that CVS store that was all the rage at DU a few nights ago?

The Racial Divide inflamed to epic levels

No - the last gasp of white supremacy in the US.

I'm not talking about people on the Left - I'm not talking about US!

Those people over there on the right?

Been foaming at their mouths for 45 years now. This is their last stand. They are gonna lose. Because my 21 year old niece is the 'new' America - black, white/native father - puerto rican/dominican mother.

That's the new America - and they HAAAAAAAATE it. They created the divide - not Obama. If they weren't so filled with hate and misery about times that need to be soon forgotten well . . .

Should the US help Save These People? - Italy, Migrants, and Libya - some things to consider

I know we have Italian Nationals and American Expats in Italy at DU who are hip deep in the situation with the migrants every day - but I thought perhaps we could have a discussion regarding the Migrant situation apart from the emotional/silent threads.

A few things -

On February 15th Italy closed its embassy in Libya.

Italy has a long history with Libya - they were once an Italian colony (that adds layers to the relationship).

The Fed Gov is relatively filled with newbies - they are pretty much untested. And that was good thing for the people of Italy in terms of their internal interests.

Many of the mandatory military service era have recently 'aged' out. This leaves them with fewer soldiers and fewer soldiers with the experience in Africa - as it is now a volunteer service. In my husband's family - only one person is serving with 20 years - and he's Navy.

Renzi (the Prime Minister) initially called for a intervention in Libya - but then back tracked when no other country volunteered to lead the effort.

About two years ago - due to the Austerity - the Italian Military budget was cut by 40%. We can't think 'ground troops'and air force - we have to think Navy AND Coast Guard as well. There was supposed to be a large by of F-35 jets - that has not happened. They just aren't prepared to go in balls to the walls in Libya. On home turf yes - but abroad nope.

Where some of the migrant boats are sinking - it's about 70 miles off the coast of Libya. There was also an incident at the end of March where the Coast Guard was fired at by Traffickers trying to get back their cheap flimsy boat. It's assumed they hauled the non sea worthy vessel back to wherever they came from to reload it and try again. These traffickers are not in good faith people - they aren't nice guys and they don't play patty cake.

The "Northern League" (a far right political party) is spouting off nonsense about ISIS invading Italy and getting people worked up over that. They also have this approach of - We should be helping but not allowing them to disembark in Italy.

Finally this weekend France and several other countries leadership - Finally stepped up to the plate and at least said - we need a summit/meeting to discuss.

Doesn't mean the problem is going to get solved - seems like they want to just have a discussion about the problem without real solutions.

So what are the solutions? Would we as Americans be willing to send troops to Libya as part of a UN Mission? Or have we done enough damage in North Africa and the Middle East? If brought to the UN - would we be willing to fund a rescue mission that when it was effective cost Italy approximately 12 Million per month?

I'm trying to wrap my head around the concept that the internal issues of Libya are causing migrants from across that part of the world to flood Southern Europe's shores. One of the folks interviewed from last nights (4/19) disaster was from Bangladesh. Is the answer to only allow in minors and those who can prove persecution? That with the understanding that there will be a global financial initiative to assist the landing countries with the processing and more important . .. the basic needs of all human beings?

There is a great deal of hand wringing going on around the world (not DU focused). At some point we need to acknowledge the 'this is so sad' came from the Arab Spring.

Thoughts anyone? What would you call your Senators or Member of the House and say if you could?

From: For Harriet "We Need to Stop Sharing Videos of Black Girls In Fights"

******Posted in the African American Group******

Note: For Harriet is an online community contributor ezine whose target demo is black women.

I grabbed the second half of this fairly brief opinion piece. The focus of the first half is the case of the young girl beat in Baltimore late last year. I think they may have pushed this op ed back up to the top of their feed in light of the well publicized case in Brooklyn.

My point in sharing this - is that it starts within the community. Not just the behavior but the sharing of the behavior. Once again we have become the focus of a group of people who know very little about us.

Now once again - This is all they know. This case and the Baltimore case. So they are going to jump on this opportunity (the Brooklyn case) to show some sort of 'concern' that I *think* (only think until proven wrong) they wouldn't be concerned about if it had been several white folks either beating on a black girl or a white girl.

Notice, in the same weekend I saw a dehumanizing of the young women who beat the young lady in Brooklyn - I saw this extreme empathy for two white female tweeners in the midwest who had actually stabbed someone (google Slender Man Stabbing) because they will be tried as adults.

Google Brooklyn McDonalds Beating and Google Slender Man Stabbing - read the comments.

And I disagree with Tyga (who as I understand it upon research is a rapper dating an underage girl) - as did the author of the OP ED. We are there - we exist as role models . . . but it's hard to get America to view us as such - and the media to prop us up as such.

The issue here is that while it’s idiotic to fight, the thousands of videos adorning Black girls throwing bows or beating another girl down feed the idea that we’re violent, aggressive, and angry. Worse, watching one (or more) video automatically breeds another because in a teenager’s mind, having Internet fame is everything. Additionally, enough consumption of violence desensitizes one to it, making it easy to watch, or worse, reenact.

Studies have shown that “exposure to violent media results in a blunting of emotional responses, which in turn may prevent the connection of consequences of aggression with an appropriate emotional response, and therefore may increase the likelihood that aggression is seen as acceptable behavior.”

When Black girls see variations of themselves in a less than positive light, i.e. fight videos, it can be easy for them to have a poor self-image and set lower standards for themselves. They can be confused about how they should act, especially when it comes to tense, stressful, or confrontational situations. And while it may seem fun and harmless at the time, being recorded while viciously beating the life out of someone else – while solo or in a group – could warrant years of unwanted attention, unemployment, and possible jail time. Five of the girls involved in the attack, whose names were not released, have been arrested.

Tyga had the nerve to say that there aren’t a lot of real role models for Black “females” to look up to. He’s wrong. There’s a plethora of Black women out here consciously serving as healthy examples for our daughters. But these videos circulating the web make it harder for teenagers to look up to them.

Please, stop sharing fight videos. Instead, share positive representations of Black women, so our girls can aspire to someone more worthy of their respect than the likes of Sharkeisha.

What we did get - was yet another White Male Right Wing Talking Head spouting off nonsense about us. Probably has never even had a black person into his home for dinner - yet has all kinds of nonsense to talk - becaus it's ALL he knows. . .

http://atlantablackstar.com/2015/03/16/white-texas-talk-show-host-uses-brooklyn-mcdonalds-beating-as-opportunity-to-say-nasty-things-about-black-people/
White Texas Talk Show Host Uses Brooklyn McDonald’s Beating As Opportunity to Say Nasty Things About Black People

“We have people living in our country who are savages. Absolutely, positively savages, to engage in this kind of behavior,” Berry said, making it clear he’s talking about Black people. “The whole McDonald’s is full, they’re loving it.”

Berry’s comments came as the girls who were allegedly involved in the beating and apparent robbery surrendered to authorities one-by-one over the weekend. New York police said yesterday only one of the six teenage girls who took part in the attack is still at large. The beating has been viewed hundreds of thousands of times after being posted to YouTube.

Savages - absolute savages. You shouldn't need to google too far to find that word/those words being used to describe black suspects on a regular basis.

Another snippet from the Atlanta Black Star Article:
One of the girls, who is just 14, was removed from an airplane at an international terminal at Atlanta’s airport, reportedly on a plane bound for her native Jamaica. Bail for the purported leader of the attack, Aniah Ferguson, 16, who was arrested on Thursday on charges of robbery and assault in the second degree, was set at $500,000, according to local media.

With the regularity of a clock, you can predict that some white conservative will use the occasion of a Black person committing a crime against another Black person to loudly cry about Black-on-Black crime. They reach for it with obvious glee, claiming that it’s a more serious matter in America than crimes committed against Black people by white racists or white police officers targeting young Black males. This is a favorite tactic of former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani,

Funny that. . .

Hey I'm all for free speech - but what can we do to squash:
The behavior.
The recording of the behavior.
The posting of the behavior.
The attention paid to bad behavior.

I truly believe America is an extremely violent country. It's how we started and it's how we'll always be. However - what can we do bring some connections between young black woman - the softness they all hold within - nurture it - and get them to connect? And does our behavior as adults and mentors both in real life and in online environments - how does it prop them up? How can we prop them up?
