WASHINGTON – Thirty-five years after its launch, Voyager 1 appears to have travelled beyond the influence of the Sun and exited the heliosphere, according to a new study appearing online today.

The heliosphere is a region of space dominated by the Sun and its wind of energetic particles, and which is thought to be enclosed, bubble-like, in the surrounding interstellar medium of gas and dust that pervades the Milky Way galaxy.

On August 25, 2012, NASA's Voyager 1 spacecraft measured drastic changes in radiation levels, more than 11 billion miles from the Sun. Anomalous cosmic rays, which are cosmic rays trapped in the outer heliosphere, all but vanished, dropping to less than 1 percent of previous amounts. At the same time, galactic cosmic rays – cosmic radiation from outside of the solar system – spiked to levels not seen since Voyager's launch, with intensities as much as twice previous levels.

The findings have been accepted for publication in Geophysical Research Letters, a journal of the American Geophysical Union.

"Within just a few days, the heliospheric intensity of trapped radiation decreased, and the cosmic ray intensity went up as you would expect if it exited the heliosphere," said Bill Webber, professor emeritus of astronomy at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces. He calls this transition boundary the "heliocliff."

In the GRL article, the authors state: "It appears that [Voyager 1] has exited the main solar modulation region, revealing [hydrogen] and [helium] spectra characteristic of those to be expected in the local interstellar medium."

Scientists at NASA are reporting that a rock sample taken by NASA’s Curiosity Rover indicates that the surface of ancient Mars has all the elements needed to support life, except one.

This team of NASA scientists are indicating that some of the key chemical ingredients that support life, including sulfur, nitrogen, hydrogen, oxygen, phosphorus and carbon, where in the powder that the Curiosity Rover’s drillbit displaced while drilling into a piece of sedimentary rock in close proximity to an ancient riverbed in Gale Crater on Mars last month.

“A fundamental question for this mission is whether Mars could have supported a habitable environment,” said Michael Meyer, lead scientist for NASA’s Mars Exploration Program, part of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory at the California Institute of Technology (CALTECH) “from what we know now, the answer is yes.”

The missing piece of the puzzle for the discovery of previous life on Mars is water.

And that's the first place they dug and analyzed.

This looks very promising that life will be found or at least signs of ancient life.

The History Channel today denied claims that have been making the rounds on Twitter, including Glenn Beck, that the character depicting Satan in “The Bible” docudrama looks like President Obama. But WorldNetDaily thinks that the supposed resemblance is further proof that Obama is demonic, once again alleging that President Obama may be the Satanic deity Beelzebub, or Lord of the Flies, because flies have landed on him. In an article today, WND executive news director Joe Kovacs points to four incidences since 2008 where flies were present at a press conference or interview.

Kovacs cites RevelationNow.net, which also believes that Beyonce is possessed by demons and that her Super Bowl performance represented demonic brainwashing, to imply that “Obama is possessed by a demonic entity.”

In case you aren’t convinced by the fact that Obama is demonic because he has had to swat away flies (which no one else has ever done) and because Beck thinks that a character playing the Devil in a TV show kind of looks like him, Kovacs also notes that on November 5, 2008, the Illinois Pick 3 lottery number was 666.

MARTHA RADDATZ: There was a surprise this week. Senator Rob Portman, who is a close friend of yours, a conservative from Ohio, said he has had a change of heart about gay marriage. He will now support gay marriage after learning his own 21-year-old son Will is gay. Has Portman shared this with you?

SPEAKER JOHN BOEHNER: He has, in fact, called. Listen, Rob's a great friend and a long-time ally. And I appreciate that he's decided to change his views on this. But I believe that marriage is a union of a man and a woman.

MARTHA RADDATZ: Can you imagine yourself in a situation where you reversed your decision, as Portman has, on gay marriage if a child of yours or someone you love told you they were gay?

SPEAKER JOHN BOEHNER: Listen, I believe that marriage is the union of one man and one woman. All right. It's what I grew up with. It's what I believe. It's what my church teaches me. And I can't imagine that position would ever change.

MARTHA RADDATZ: Will Portman said it was not a choice. So, how do you justify denying him a right to marriage?

SPEAKER JOHN BOEHNER: Listen, I think that Rob can make up his own mind, take his own position. But I've made clear my position.
