Hawaii
The state with the least amount of gun violence is Hawaii, which is great news for travelers, since the Aloha state has seen a real tourism resurgence in recent months. Hawaii manages to keep these stats because they have some of the strictest gun laws in the country. You can feel quite safe while vacationing in Hawaii.

New York
You’ll probably be a little surprised to hear that New York is the second safest state to visit with the second best gun violence record. And while it’s true that New York ALSO has very strict gun laws, also at play is that New York has the lowest suicide rates of all the states.

Massachusetts
Only 12.5% of Massachusetts residents own a gun (compare that to more than 50% of Mississippians). Could this have something to do with Massachusetts’ extremely low incidence of gun deaths each year? In any event, this New England state has an extremely safe reputation for visitors.

Rhode Island
Rhode Island is right behind Massachusetts, with about 15% of households owning a gun. Come visit the smallest state, and enjoy a safe vacation in towns like Providence and Newport, both of which have stellar seaside locations and a plethora of festivals each year.

Connecticut
After the tragic 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, Connecticut passed strict gun safety laws and now has some of the strongest laws in the country.
In 2020, Connecticut had the sixth-lowest gun death rate among the states. It’s starting to seem like a New England vacation could offer the safest possibilities!

Brand New 747 Jet Scrapped After Just 16 Flights

A Boeing 747 configured as a private VIP jet is being scrapped after having spent just 30 hours in service over 16 flights. The aircraft, originally intended for a Saudi royal, sat on the ground for almost 10 years at EuroAirport Basel Mulhouse Freiburg, located at the border between France, Switzerland and Germany.There, it was meant to be fitted with a lavish interior, but that never happened, and after failing to find a new buyer, the plane was eventually flown to Pinal Airpark in Arizona – an aircraft boneyard where retired planes get stripped for parts or stored indefinitely.

The plane is a BBJ, for “Boeing Business Jet” – heavily modified editions of Boeing’s jetliners targeted to governments and corporate clients. Its range of over 10,000 miles and cabin space of about 5,000 square feet are unrivaled by any other business aircraft.

It’s also the most advanced model of the Boeing 747 ever produced – the 747-8 variant – which first flew in 2010 but failed to find commercial success due to being expensive to operate. The final one, delivered to cargo operator Atlas Air in early 2023, marked the end of the 747’s production history, though the variant still has a future in the spotlight: two 747-8s are currently being transformed into the next Air Force One planes.

Turkey and Syria death toll from the earthquake climbs to more than 2,500

The death toll across Turkey and Syria has risen to at least 2,509 following a powerful 7.8 magnitude earthquake with its epicenter in southern Turkey early Monday.

The total number of injured in Turkey and Syria climbed to 12,136 on Monday.

The total death toll in Syria rose to 968. Syria's state-run news agency SANA reported 538 across government-controlled areas and the "White Helmets" group, officially known as the Syria Civil Defense, reported 430 deaths in opposition-controlled areas.
