George McGovern’s anti-war candidacy for the presidency in 1972 attracted a good deal of celebrity support. But few Hollywood figures worked as hard as [Leonard] Nimoy to advance the cause of the Democratic presidential contender.

Beginning in January of 1972, when he trekked to New Hampshire on behalf of what was then considered to be McGovern’s uphill battle for the nomination, Nimoy traveled to thirty-five states on the South Dakota senator’s behalf. Grainy photos and news reports from more than four decades ago tell the story of a young Nimoy campaigning in the southwest with Latinos, in urban centers with African-Americans, in rural Oregon and even in Alaska.

Nimoy did not mind trading on his Star Trek celebrity to appeal for McGovern. He even joked at campaign stops that “I’m at a disadvantage. I’ve spent most of my previous life on Vulcan, so I don’t know too much about the people in this country.”

A very rich man decides he wants to find the "meaning of life."...He lives in Manhattan, in an incredible apartment with "everything at his fingertips"...So he reads up on the subject and gets into deep meditation and philosophical literature. He practices everything he can try, and in the process hears about a Guru living in Tibet who lives on top of a mountain and knows, "the meaning of life"..ok well he looks into the story and finds that this is true...so,

Our rich friend starts to work out and set up an trip to Tibet and a trek up the mountain. He hires a trainer, and arranges for a number of Yaks and guides to take him up the mountain. Given his lack of exercise, and the very high altitude of the home where the Guru lives..... it takes him 4 months to get ready for the journey..

He is ready..He gets to the bottom of the mountain, and his entourage is there. 15 Yaks and 8 guides and equipment with plenty of supplies to trek up the mountain and get to the small home that the Guru lives in..It takes him a week or so to make the trek, but he finally gets to the home, and walks into it, places a large donation in the correct place, and meets and aid to the Guru..The aid and rich man walk into a dimly lit room, with candles and quiet music. The Guru looks up, and asks, "What would you like to know my friend?"

The rich man says, "I would like to know the meaning of life?" ...The Guru looks up, and goes into deep thought..
Eventually he comes out of his thought and says..

The meaning in life..is...."It is what it is.."

Our rich friend starts screaming..." You mean to say, I came all the way here to to listen to you say, "It is because it is." I spent all this money and time to hear that? Are you nuts?

The Guru stops and looks up, with a very startled and surprised look on his face...totally taken back by the rich man's behavior..no one questions the ...Guru...and then he says , and looks up, in a nervous and totally unsure way, and asks,....isn't it?

Below this is an explanation of the right wing view on Presidential Executive Orders..This is what is being presented to millions. I saw this at Yahoo this morning..3/2/15. This is why the Right Wing think they can shut down the government and the homeland security agency. It does not discuss the history of "executive orders" or what other presidents have done. It is their justification for "hate" and their reasoning. It is their "presentation of what they believe the truth is.. Without explanation or clarification of what happened and why. . Executive orders are different than "laws".. Just hate and twisting what really happened. And nothing about Bush and his approval of "torture" which could be seen as being against the law.

Rule Of Law: First, the president issues unlawful executive orders giving illegal immigrants amnesty. Then, he dares an equal branch of government to vote on his orders' legality so he can veto it. Is he establishing a monarchy?

While speaking at a town hall meeting Wednesday night at Florida International University, President Obama clearly indicated that he believes he is the final authority on law in this country. He will not tolerate dissent.

"If Mr. McConnell, the leader of the Senate, and the Speaker of the House, John Boehner, want to have a vote on whether what I'm doing is legal or not, they can have that vote. I will veto that vote, because I'm absolutely confident that what we're doing is the right thing to do," he told a group organized by Democratic Rep. Jose Diaz-Balart.

In November, Obama announced a set of unilateral actions to change the immigration system. Government agencies were ordered not to enforce the law against up to 5 million illegal immigrants in the country. He also declared that they would not be subject to deportation and were to be handed green card.

Chicago police deny British paper's claims about beatings, illegal detentions (title of article)

The Chicago Police Department in a statement Tuesday night denied accusations in a story by a British newspaper that alleged people have been illegally detained, beaten and denied access to counsel in a Homan Square facility..

The Police Department issued a statement in response to the Tuesday story in The Guardian. The department said violence does not happen as a part of interviews with suspects or anyone else and that lawyers have access to any clients at the West Side facility. The site also houses the department's Bureau of Organized Crime, SWAT unit evidence technicians and the CPD ballistics lab, the department said.


"CPD abides by all laws, rules and guidelines pertaining to any interviews of suspects or witnesses, at Homan Square or any other CPD facility," department spokesman Martin Maloney said in a statement. "If lawyers have a client detained at Homan Square, just like any other facility, they are allowed to speak to and visit them. It also houses CPD's Evidence Recovered Property Section, where the public is able to claim inventoried property."

The Chicago police department operates an off-the-books interrogation compound, rendering Americans unable to be found by family or attorneys while locked inside what lawyers say is the domestic equivalent of a CIA black site.

The facility, a nondescript warehouse on Chicago’s west side known as Homan Square, has long been the scene of secretive work by special police units. Interviews with local attorneys and one protester who spent the better part of a day shackled in Homan Square describe operations that deny access to basic constitutional rights.

Alleged police practices at Homan Square, according to those familiar with the facility who spoke out to the Guardian after its investigation into Chicago police abuse, include:

Keeping arrestees out of official booking databases.
Beating by police, resulting in head wounds.
Shackling for prolonged periods.
Denying attorneys access to the “secure” facility.
Holding people without legal counsel for between 12 and 24 hours, including people as young as 15.

Fox News talk show host and political commentator Bill O'Reilly threatened to retaliate against a reporter "with everything I have" if he felt her coverage of his war-time reporting was inappropriate, the reporter said.

In a tweet late Monday, New York Times reporter Emily Steel said O'Reilly told her "I am coming after you with everything I have," and "You can take it as a threat."

Steel linked to a Times article that detailed O'Reilly's efforts to refute claims by the magazine Mother Jones and interviews with former journalists at CBS News that O'Reilly gave an inaccurate portrayal of his reporting experience during the Falkland Islands conflict between Argentina and Britain in 1982 while he worked at CBS News. In contrast to O'Reilly's statements in a 2001 book, he did not report from active war-zones, the Mother Jones and interviews allege.

America is the land of breakthrough science -- and health care scams. The two seem to go hand in hand in the case of the new hepatitis C virus (HCV) cure named sofosbuvir, sold under the brand name Sovaldi by the drug company Gilead Sciences. There is no question that Solvadi is a godsend -- a lifesaver for millions of Americans, and perhaps someday for hundreds of millions of people around the world infected by Hepatitis C. Yet Sovaldi is also the poster child of a U.S. health care system that is being bankrupted by greed, lobbying and indefensible policies on drug pricing.

The basic facts are these. In December 2013, the Food and Drug Administration approved Sovaldi, and another formulation, Harvoni, which is sofosbuvir used in combination with another drug. Gilead set the price for a 12-week treatment course of Sovaldi at $84,000, amounting to $1,000 per pill. Gilead set the price of Harvoni at $94,000.

According to researchers at Liverpool University, the actual production costs of Sovaldi for the 12-week course is in the range $68-$136. Indeed, generic sofosbuvir is currently being marketed in India at $300 per treatment course, after India refused to grant Gilead a patent for the Indian market. In other words, the U.S. price-cost markup is roughly 1,000-to-1!

Former CBS News correspondent Eric Engberg followed his blistering Facebook post on Saturday about Bill O'Reilly with an appearance Sunday on CNN's "Reliable Sources.".

O'Reilly came under fire Thursday in a story in "Mother Jones" that claimed he exaggerated his wartime reporting in the Falklands much like suspended NBC anchorman Brian Williams had with his work in Iraq.

On Sunday, O'Reilly and Engberg squared off on dueling 11 a.m. media shows. Here is a story of O'Reilly blasting Engberg on Fox News' "Media Buzz."
