Seahawks’ CB Browner faces 1-year suspension

A day after the news that cornerback Walter Thurmond will be suspended for four games because of a second violation of the league’s substance-abuse policy, came word that cornerback Brandon Browner will reportedly be suspended for a year for a violation of the same policy.

Browner was suspended the final four games of the 2012 season for violating the league’s performance-enhancing drug policy, which is separate from the substance-abuse policy. After missing four games, Browner returned to join the Seahawks in the playoffs.
------
The suspensions for both Thurmond and Browner indicate they have violated the league’s drug policy multiple times.

This is the same guy who when questioned last summer what he would do if lined up against Jim Harbaugh, answered, "I'd put my hands around his neck". That was following the 49ers' coach commenting on the trend involving Seattle's PED use.

I still think the Seahawks have the best team in the NFC if not the NFL. Perhaps if they stop losing players they'll have a chance to prove it..

Ernie Banks receives Presidential Medal of Freedom...

Cubs legend Ernie Banks was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama on Wednesday in Washington, D.C.

The Medal of Freedom, established in 1963 by President John F. Kennedy, is presented to individuals who have made “an especially meritorious contribution to the security and national interests of the United States, world peace, cultural or other significant public or private endeavors.” Recipients of the award are chosen by the president, with the assistance of the Distinguished Civilian Service Awards Board.

Banks was one of 16 Americans honored Wednesday, in a group that included former President Bill Clinton, media icon Oprah Winfrey, former astronaut Sally Ride, feminist Gloria Steinem and North Carolina basketball coach Dean Smith.

49ers’ Whitner forced to withdraw ‘Hitner’ name change application..

Whitner says the judge wouldn't allow the name change without him being present and he still may revisit this in the offseason. Nevertheless, I sure am glad this important matter is settled for the time being.

Ahmad Brooks Says His Flag For Hitting Drew Brees Was "Bullshit"...

With the Saints driving, down three, with just over three minutes left, Ahmad Brooks sacked Drew Brees and forced a fumble that was recovered by Patrick Willis. "It was almost like Christmas early," Willis said. Well, Christmas was canceled. Officials called Brooks for a personal foul, which swung the game. Brooks was, understandably, pissed.

The home cooking reserved for star QBs penalty probably cost the 49ers the game. Though in reality they didn't play well enough offensively to win anyway, but still. Might as well just put flags on the QB and say none of them are allowed to be hit.

Jonathan Martin's mother revealed as a lawyer with expertise in workplace harassment..

Jonathan Martin could sue the Miami Dolphins for big money under a variety of workplace laws - and could turn to his own legal eagle mother for advice.

The employment legislation makes employers liable for bullying, harassment and discrimination - even if the team's hierarchy didn't know about it, according to several legal experts.
----
Interestingly, Martin's mother, Jane Howard-Martin, spent almost 20 years practicing employment law and wrote numerous articles in legal journals on such issues as workplace discrimination and harassment. It's not known whether she has any role in her son's decisions. Howard-Martin is now assistant general counsel for Toyota Motor Sales USA Inc. in Los Angeles.

Stanford players dress as nerds after beating Oregon..

Reporter to Kevin Hogan: "why are you guys wearing nerd glasses?" Kevin Hogan: "It's Stanford."

The game itself was never as close as the score indicates. Physically dominating performance by Stanford. Laying waste to the Ducks NC hopes for the second year in a row. It was nice to see some old fashioned football for a change..
