NFL, Elias reviewing Peyton Manning passing record: lateral or pass?

In Week 17 against the Raiders, Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning broke the single-season record for passing yards, beating Drew Brees old record by a single yard. But he might not hold onto the record for long.

The NFL is reportedly reviewing a 7-yard pass by Manning to Eric Decker with about a minute remaining in the first quarter, which could very well be wiped off the books. If it was wiped off, Manning's record would be voided as well.

On the play in question, Decker lined up in the slot:

Decker basically steps backwards with Manning making a quick-hitting throw. Here Manning is cocking his arm back to throw:

When Manning releases the ball there's very little question that Decker is behind him (the ball is in the air at this point):

And when Decker makes the catch, he and Manning are insanely close in terms of what yardage marker they're on:

According to the NFL rulebook, a forward pass requires "the ball initially moves forward (to a point nearer the opponent's goal line) after leaving the passer's hand(s)."

It clearly looks like a lateral and if the NFL rules that way, Manning will finish the season 6 yards short of the record..They'll no doubt let him slide though..

Harbaugh: "Beware of unnamed sources. They speak with forked tongue"

We've heard San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh deny rumors about the University of Texas coaching job before, but never quite like this.

"In Judge Judy's court, hearsay is not admissible evidence," Harbaugh said Thursday via CSN Bay Area. "I think we can all agree that an unnamed source is hearsay. I see unnamed sources related to many of these topics. And it's my point that an unnamed source is hearsay. And in the court of public opinion, why would you give any of that credibility?"

And later: "Beware of unnamed sources. They speak with forked tongue."
-----
Harbaugh insisted he "absolutely" wants to stay in San Francisco and downplayed the notion that he is at odds in any way with general manager Trent Baalke, who holds personnel control with the team.

This has to go down as another Harbaughism..

I don't see why he would want to go to Texas anyhow. A move back to college by an NFL coach as successful as Jim Harbaugh is almost unprecedented..

FSU's Jameis Winston will not be charged...

Nearly a year after Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston was accused of rape by a female FSU student, the state attorney has decided not to charge the Heisman Trophy favorite.

Thursday's decision clears the way for Winston to finish the season with the No. 1 Seminoles.

Willie Meggs, the state attorney for the Second Judicial Circuit, announced the move during a news conference at the Leon County Courthouse. Winston had faced felony charges after being accused of sexually assaulting the woman at an off-campus apartment on Dec. 7, 2012.

"We've carefully examined all the evidence in this case and have concluded that no charges will be filed against anyone in this case," Meggs said.

Good news for Winston and FSU fans..

Sky News breaks news that RG III came out...

British diving star, Olympic medalist, and former World Champion Tom Daley came out and announced he was gay in a YouTube video. Daley's announcement comes on the heels of Jason Collins, Robbie Rogers, and several other prominent athletes making the decision to come out publicly.

To commemorate Daley's announcement, Sky News in the UK produced what else, a slideshow of sports stars who came out. Included are the likes of Collins and Rogers as well as Welsh rugby star Gareth Thomas and Martina Navratilova. And also... Robert Griffin III?!?!

When did that happen???

Vernon Davis gets tackled by his penis...

I don't know that I've ever seen that before. Have to wonder why it's legal, they throw a flag for everything else.

Anyway, as every male knows, it must have hurt like hell... but Vernon was fine after a couple minutes and was out for just 1 play..

Seahawks’ CB Browner faces 1-year suspension

A day after the news that cornerback Walter Thurmond will be suspended for four games because of a second violation of the league’s substance-abuse policy, came word that cornerback Brandon Browner will reportedly be suspended for a year for a violation of the same policy.

Browner was suspended the final four games of the 2012 season for violating the league’s performance-enhancing drug policy, which is separate from the substance-abuse policy. After missing four games, Browner returned to join the Seahawks in the playoffs.
------
The suspensions for both Thurmond and Browner indicate they have violated the league’s drug policy multiple times.

This is the same guy who when questioned last summer what he would do if lined up against Jim Harbaugh, answered, "I'd put my hands around his neck". That was following the 49ers' coach commenting on the trend involving Seattle's PED use.

I still think the Seahawks have the best team in the NFC if not the NFL. Perhaps if they stop losing players they'll have a chance to prove it..

Ernie Banks receives Presidential Medal of Freedom...

Cubs legend Ernie Banks was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama on Wednesday in Washington, D.C.

The Medal of Freedom, established in 1963 by President John F. Kennedy, is presented to individuals who have made “an especially meritorious contribution to the security and national interests of the United States, world peace, cultural or other significant public or private endeavors.” Recipients of the award are chosen by the president, with the assistance of the Distinguished Civilian Service Awards Board.

Banks was one of 16 Americans honored Wednesday, in a group that included former President Bill Clinton, media icon Oprah Winfrey, former astronaut Sally Ride, feminist Gloria Steinem and North Carolina basketball coach Dean Smith.

49ers’ Whitner forced to withdraw ‘Hitner’ name change application..

Whitner says the judge wouldn't allow the name change without him being present and he still may revisit this in the offseason. Nevertheless, I sure am glad this important matter is settled for the time being.

Ahmad Brooks Says His Flag For Hitting Drew Brees Was "Bullshit"...

With the Saints driving, down three, with just over three minutes left, Ahmad Brooks sacked Drew Brees and forced a fumble that was recovered by Patrick Willis. "It was almost like Christmas early," Willis said. Well, Christmas was canceled. Officials called Brooks for a personal foul, which swung the game. Brooks was, understandably, pissed.

The home cooking reserved for star QBs penalty probably cost the 49ers the game. Though in reality they didn't play well enough offensively to win anyway, but still. Might as well just put flags on the QB and say none of them are allowed to be hit.
