GOP Rep. Pushes Conspiracy Theory That ISIS Responsible For Las Vegas Attack

Source: TPM

During an interview with the attorney representing the victims of the Las Vegas massacre, Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA) falsely claimed on Fox News Thursday that ISIS was responsible for the mass shooting.

Appearing on Fox News’ “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” Perry said he had “credible evidence” that he believes links the shooting, which left 50-plus people dead, to “potential terrorist infiltration through the south border.” Las Vegas police and the FBI have consistently said the attack was conducted by a lone wolf shooter, Stephen Paddock, but earlier this week, police said they were investigating charges against another person as well.

“Let’s face it. ISIS twice before the attack warned the United States that they would attack Las Vegas, I think in June and August and then after the attack, claimed responsibility four times,” he said. “I smell a rat, like a lot of Americans. Nothing’s adding up. It’s been four months. The man is dead, they said he’s a lone gunman, lone shooter, yet we can’t get the autopsy results.”

The local coroner actually released the results of Paddocks autopsy in December— he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound and his death was ruled a suicide. The alleged shooter’s cremated remains were delivered to his brother on Thursday, the Las Vegas Review Journal reported.

Inside Trump Backers Bash At Mar-A-Lago, Where The President Is A Damn Genius

Even with Trump stuck in Washington, the Trumpettes hailed the president as a “messiah” at a party in his honor at his exclusive club Thursday night.

Source: Buzz Feed News

The clock was ticking for the Republican-controlled Congress to stave off a government shutdown Thursday night — just over 24 hours to go — but Washington's chaos seemed to be taking place on another planet for about 800 of President Donald Trump's most die-hard supporters, who held a lavish celebration at Mar-a-Lago to mark Trump’s first-year in office and rally for his re-election.

Decked out in red, white, and blue, Trump fans from all over the country danced throughout the evening at the president’s exclusive club, toasted repeatedly to Trump's accomplishments, chanted his name — along with the occasional campaign favorite "lock her up" — and referred to Trump as a “damn genius,” their “messiah” and “savior." The speakers and attendees also slammed the media and pushed back on renewed allegations of racism levied at the president, after reports last week that he called African nations "shithole countries" in a private meeting with lawmakers.

"Welcome to Mar-a-Lago, a magnificent place," said Fox News host and Trump backer Jeanine Pirro, kicking off her keynote address just before dinner on a stage with a shimmering gold backdrop.

"It sure ain't no shithole."

Hundreds of supporters of President Trump gathered at his Mar-a-Lago estate Thursday night to celebrate his first year in office.

BuzzFeed News attended the “Red, White, and Blue Celebration” at Trump’s Florida property, an event hosted by the leaders of the “Trumpettes,” a group of wealthy socialites that drummed up support for Trump from female voters during the 2016 election.

Among the speakers at the event was Fox News host Jeanine Pirro, a major supporter and surrogate for Trump, BuzzFeed reported.

"Welcome to Mar-a-Lago, a magnificent place. It sure ain't no shithole,” Pirro said, referring to Trump’s comments on African countries.

Government Funding Bill past last night in the House of Representatives. Now Democrats are needed if it is to pass in the Senate - but they want illegal immigration and weak borders. Shutdown coming? We need more Republican victories in 2018!

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern reveals she is pregnant

Source: CNN

(CNN)New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced Friday that she and her partner, Clarke Gayford, are expecting their first child in June.

...

"I am not the first woman to multi-task, I'm not the first woman to work and have a baby, I know these are special circumstances but there will be many women who will have done this well before I have," she said.

...

During the 2017 election campaign, an interview with Ardern on New Zealand radio went viral and sparked a debate about sexism after a radio host quizzed her on her baby plans just hours into the job.

"I elected to talk about it, it was my choice ... but for other women it is totally unacceptable in 2017 to say a woman should have to answer that question in the workplace," she said.

Judge Aquilina shuts down Larry Nassar's complaints of stress, 'media circus'

Source: Lansing State Journal

LANSING – Larry Nassar wrote a letter prior to his four-day sentencing, saying he wasn’t sure if he could “mentally” handle four days of listening to victim-impact statements.

It’s unclear to whom the letter was addressed, but Ingham County Circuit Court Judge Rosemarie Aquilina discussed the letter this morning at the start of the third day of Nassar’s sentencing hearing. She asked him several questions about it and said it wasn’t worth the paper it was written on.

In the letter, Nassar said he thought Aquilina was trying to make the sentencing hearing a “media circus” and said he had previously passed out twice, including the day of his federal sentencing. On Dec. 7, a federal judge sentenced him to 60 years in prison on three child pornography charges.

UPDATED: House intelligence panel votes to release transcript from Fusion GPS co-founder interview

Source: CNN

(CNN)The House Intelligence Committee on Thursday voted to release the transcript of its interview with Fusion GPS co-founder Glenn Simpson, with Democrats and Republicans joining together in a move likely to shed new light on the opposition research dossier on Trump and Russia.

The committee voted in a closed-door meeting to release the transcript, which Simpson himself and the panel's top Democrat had pushed for over the past month. The vote was unanimous, committee member Rep. Denny Heck told CNN.

With the vote, the House panel will be second committee to make the details of Simpson's interview public. Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California, the top Democrat on the Judiciary Committee, last week released the transcript of Simpson's August Senate Judiciary Committee interview without the consent of Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley of Iowa.

Simpson's interviews have emerged as a significant element of the Russia investigation thanks to the political fight over the dossier on Trump and Russia compiled by ex-British intelligence agent Christopher Steele.

The transcript could be released as soon as today. Adam Schiff, the committee’s top Democrat, has called for the release of the transcript. Fusion GPS’s co-founder has also called for its release. Fusion GPS is at the center of the Trump/Russia probe. The company has drawn unrelenting criticism from Republicans for its role in putting together a dossier that includes salacious allegations about President Donald Trump and the Kremlin. Hillary Clinton’s campaign paid the firm to research Trump, through campaign lawyer Marc Elias.

Judge Denies Pro-Trump Jurors Request By 3 Men Accused In Mosque Bomb Plot

Source: TPM

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — Three men accused of plotting to bomb an apartment complex housing Somali refugees in Kansas have no legal basis to request that prospective jurors come from rural counties where more residents voted for President Donald Trump, a federal judge ruled Wednesday.

The men are accused of targeting apartments and a mosque in Garden City, a meatpacking area in rural western Kansas. But they are being tried about 220 miles (354 kilometers) away at the closest federal courthouse in Wichita, where trials pull prospective jurors from surrounding, more urban counties.

The men argue the practice is discriminatory because it excludes western Kansas counties where more rural, conservative residents live.

U.S. District Judge Eric Melgren ruled that the demographic differences between the regions aren’t legally recognizable and wouldn’t violate the men’s right to a jury trial before a cross-section of the community. Melgren also said the defendants lacked standing to act on behalf of citizens in those counties to challenge the court’s practice.
