Charity's promised back pay to Roy Moore was not reported to IRS as income

Source: The Washington Post

The Alabama charity once led by Senate candidate Roy Moore did not report to the Internal Revenue Service that in 2011 it guaranteed him $498,000 in back pay, according to an income report provided to The Washington Post by the charity itself.

Five tax law and accounting specialists said it appears the guaranteed payment should have been reported as compensation, a disclosure that would have triggered a federal tax bill of more than $100,000.

Moore and his campaign have not responded to questions about whether he paid the taxes, or to requests that he release his income tax returns.

John Bentley, a board member and former chairman of the charity, the Foundation for Moral Law, said Moore once told him that he had sought advice on the financial arrangement from an accountant. Moore said he was told the compensation was not taxable until he cashed in on the promised back pay, Bentley said. Moore has not yet done so, he said.

Harvey Weinstein Accuser Asia Argento Flees Italy After Being Slut Shamed by Media

Source: Newsweek

Italian actress Asia Argento claims she had to flee Italy after local media slut shamed her for publicly recounting the alleged sexual assault she endured at the hands of movie mogul, Harvey Weinstein.

Argento moved to Berlin to get away from the misogynistic treatment from news outlets calling her a prostitute and questioning her account of how the Hollywood producer forcibly performed oral sex on her at the age of 21 in 1997.

“I’ll come back when things improve to fight alongside all the other women,” she told the Italian television station, RAI. “I didn’t have the courage to speak until now because you see what happened, 20 years after the attack?”

Italian newspapers have implied that sexual blackmail is a necessary rite of passage in the industry and argued that Argento assaulted Weinstein. Even a former member of parliament attacked Argento saying she should have just said "No" to Weinstein.

Oh great, Steve Bannon is coming to metro Detroit

Source: Metro Times

President Donald Trump's former chief strategist and current chairman of the alt-right Breitbart News, Steve Bannon, will visit metro Detroit to speak at a GOP fundraiser.

The fundraiser will take place, of course, in Macomb County at the Andiamo Celebrity Showroom in Warren on Wednesday, Nov. 8 — the one-year anniversary of Trump's defeat of Hillary Clinton.

Bannon (who was depicted on SNL last season as the grim reaper) ended up leaving his position at the White House in August due to clashes with other members of the administration. He has since returned to Breitbart, which routinely attacks members of the GOP who don't fully support Trump.

So it's a little bit odd that Bannon is speaking at this GOP event in Warren — especially a GOP event that is called "The Republican Unity Dinner."

Female lawmakers, staffers and lobbyists speak out on 'pervasive' harassment in California's Capitol

Source: Los Angeles Times

A state legislator who was groped by a male lobbyist weeks after she was sworn into office. A legislative staffer-turned-lobbyist who for years would only wear pantsuits in order to project a “business-only” air. A government affairs director who faced inappropriate advances from an associate in full view of male colleagues who seemed oblivious as it happened.

As Hollywood takes a hard look at itself in the wake of the spiraling Harvey Weinstein sexual misconduct scandal, the women of California politics are publicly declaring: Us too.

More than 140 women — including legislators, Capitol staff, political consultants and lobbyists — signed a letter calling out the “pervasive” culture of sexual harassment and mistreatment that plagues their industry.

The signatories include six of 26 women in the Legislature, two retired lawmakers, a Board of Equalization member and officials from the state Democratic and Republican parties.

“As women leaders in politics, in a state that postures itself as a leader in justice and equality, you might assume our experience has been different. It has not,” read the letter, seen by the Los Angeles Times before its publication Tuesday. “Each of us has endured, or witnessed or worked with women who have experienced some form of dehumanizing behavior by men with power in our workplaces.”

Charlottesville Hate Leader Wanted for Arrest After Protester Was Doxed and Swatted

Source: The Daily Beast

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia — An arrest warrant was issued Monday for Jason Kessler, the organizer of the August white-supremacist at the University of Virginia. Kessler is accused of sharing a protesters’ home address on Twitter, which was later followed by a false report to police that she was brandishing a gun.

The warrant was sworn out in front of a Charlottesville City magistrate for “use of a person’s identity with the intent to coerce, intimidate, or harass.” The Class 1 misdemeanor is punishable by up to a year in prison and a $2,500 fine. Kessler was not in custody as of 1 p.m. Tuesday, according to a law enforcement source.

A Twitter account called New Byzantium tweeted the name, address and a photograph of the home of Emily Gorcenski. A previous tweet from that account shows it is linked to Kessler. Most of Kessler's past tweets about Gorcenski have since been deleted.

...

Gorcenski and another protester were pepper sprayed by Christopher Cantwell on Aug. 11, leading her to swear out a warrant on Cantwell resulting in his arrest. Cantwell is charged with illegal use of gasses and causing injury by caustic agent or explosive.

Melania Trump calls for aid to hurricane victims in new PSA

Source: The Hill

First lady Melania Trump is urging Americans to help with hurricane relief efforts in a new public service announcement, the White House announced Tuesday.

"The president and I have witnessed firsthand the compassion and commitment of Americans as friends, neighbors, and strangers continue to volunteer time and money to help one another following the recent hurricanes,” Trump says in the video, which was recorded in conjunction with the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

“Your help is still needed.”

The first lady's message comes after Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the mainland United States were battered by multiple hurricanes this season.
