Kurdish-led SDF Forces in Syria: ISIS Prisoners No Longer 'Our Responsibility' as Five Escape and Th

Source: Newsweek

Prisoners of the Islamic State militant group (ISIS) held in Kurdish-controlled areas of north-eastern Syria are no longer the responsibility of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a spokesman for the group said.

SDF forces currently hold some 12,000 ISIS militants in their prisons following years of helping the U.S. in quashing the group's influence, but now that the U.S. has effectively withdrawn its support and allowed a Turkish incursion into their territory, the Kurdish-led group must focus its efforts on protecting its people and borders, head spokesman Mustafa Bali told Rudaw.

A further 90,000 women and children affiliated with ISIS fighters are also said to be held in detention centers in northern Syria.

"We are currently subject to a genocidal attack," Bali said.

Investigation Underway After Student Assaulted At Bluford Drew Jemison STEM Academy West

BALTIMORE (WJZ) — An investigation is underway after a student was assaulted by several other students Wednesday at Bluford Drew Jemison STEM Academy West.

A video posted to social media showed several students violently punching another student inside of a bathroom at the school.

Ann Reddicks lives across the street from the school. Her grandson Ramontay is also in middle school, an eighth-grader at Baltimore County Public Schools.

“I always tell my grandson that when he has any problem at school to go to the teacher or the principal to solve the problem,” Reddicks said.

In a statement, City Schools officials said,

“Yesterday, a student was assaulted by several other students at Bluford Drew Jemison STEM Academy West. Students involved in the incident are being identified. Appropriate action will be taken in accordance with City Schools’ Code of Conduct and the law. “

More Potential Whistleblowers Are Contacting Congress

Source: The Daily Beast

New potential whistleblowers are coming forward to the House Democrats’ impeachment inquiry, two congressional sources tell The Daily Beast.

They seem to be emboldened by the actions of the whistleblower whose explosive account of President Donald Trump’s phone call to Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky about investigating Trump’s domestic political rivals ignited the impeachment inquiry. Another whistleblower is known to have come forward.

Congressional investigators are currently vetting the new accounts they’ve received for credibility. Accordingly, knowledgeable sources would not discuss where in the government these new would-be whistleblowers come from, nor what they purport to have to say.

It’s also unknown if their accounts are as significant as that of the intelligence whistleblower whose alarm over President Trump’s July 25 phone call sparked the impeachment probe. Investigators often encounter cranks as well as those with genuine knowledge of wrongdoing. Nor is it clear if these new ostensible whistleblowers have contacted any inspectors general, as the original two whistleblowers did.
