Meet the people bankrolling James OKeefe's group

Source: Think Progress

For the past seven years, conservative operative and convicted criminal James O’Keefe and his Project Veritas have used a mix of selective editing and guerilla filmmaking in a mostly unsuccessful series of attempts to discredit political opponents.

On Monday, their latest “sting” operation exploded in their face when The Washington Post caught on to an operative’s false claims of statutory rape, designed to discredit those actually coming forward with stories of sexual assault and to undermine the paper itself.

Though this is the latest in a string of embarrassments for O’Keefe and his group, both remain well-funded. O’Keefe drew a salary of more than $235,000 in 2015 for his work as chairman of Project Veritas; his executive director received nearly $170,000 over that time. Their organizational revenue for the year was more than $3.7 million.

While Project Veritas does not publicly disclose its donors, ThinkProgress found IRS disclosures for more than a dozen tax-exempt organizations that reported donations to O’Keefe’s group since it received non-profit status in 2011. Another media organization identified an individual major donor a few years ago, which was also included in the analysis.

Kellyanne Conway Will Run White House's Opioid Crisis Efforts

Source: Newsweek

White House counselor Kellyanne Conway will be the point person for the Trump administration's opioid crisis efforts, U.S. Attorney Jeff Sessions announced Wednesday.

President Donald Trump tapped Conway to help "change the perception" about opioids and reduce addictions and deaths, Sessions said at a press briefing about the Justice Department’s efforts to combat the crisis. Sessions said Trump had made the epidemic "a top priority for his administration, including every senior official and Cabinet member."

Head of Church of England calls for Trump to delete retweeted videos

Source: The Hill

The leader of the Church of England, the archbishop of Canterbury, on Wednesday called on President Trump to remove from his Twitter account videos allegedly showing acts of violence committed by Muslims, which Trump retweeted from an ultranationalist U.K. leader.

"It is deeply disturbing that the President of the United States has chosen to amplify the voice of far-right extremists. Britain First seeks to divide communities and intimidate minorities, especially our Muslim friends and neighbors," Justin Welby said in a statement on Facebook.

"Britain First does not share our values of tolerance and solidarity. God calls us as Christians to love our neighbor and seek the flourishing of all in our communities, societies and nations. I join the urgent call of faith groups and others for President Trump not just to remove these tweets, but to make clear his opposition to racism and hatred in all forms," Welby continued.

Welby also serves as head of the Anglican Communion, which encompasses churches in the United States.

A Relieved Elephant Raises Her Trunk to Thank the Workers Who Rescued Her Baby from a Mud Hole

A tiny baby elephant fell into a deep mudhole in Urulanthanni, Kerala, India and couldn’t escape despite the unsuccessful efforts of the herd. The next day, a group of compassionate workers from the Forest Department tirelessly dug at the hole until the calf was able to break free and rejoin the group. The mother of the calf was so thankful that she raised her trunk several times in gratitude.

This place is near the forest and elephants visit all the time. One day, a small elephant fell down the well. The other elephants tried to rescue their baby the entire night, but they failed. In the morning, the forest department rescued the baby and we could clearly see the mother elephant express her gratitude towards the rescuers.”

The irony of an ABC reporter (whose parent company Disney has profited nearly half a billion dollars on the movie “Pocahontas”) inferring that the name is “offensive” is truly staggering to me.

Trump: Melania 'truly loves' her job

Source: The Hill

President Trump on Tuesday appeared to push back on a report that said his wife, Melania Trump, did not want to become First Lady.

“Melania, our great and very hard working First Lady, who truly loves what she is doing, always thought that ‘if you run, you will win,’” Trump wrote on Twitter.

“She would tell everyone that, ‘no doubt, he will win.’ I also felt I would win (or I would not have run) - and Country is doing great!”
