Trump thanks Saudi Arabia for falling oil prices: 'Let's go lower'

Source: The Hill

President Trump on Wednesday morning thanked Saudi Arabia for the falling price of oil, cheering the drop and urging, "Let's go lower!"

"Oil prices getting lower," Trump tweeted. "Great! Like a big Tax Cut for America and the World. Enjoy! $54, was just $82. Thank you to Saudi Arabia, but let’s go lower!"

The tweet comes a day after Trump released a statement reaffirming close ties with Saudi Arabia despite a CIA report that found Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman likely ordered the assassination of Washington Post contributor Jamal Khashoggi.

"Our intelligence agencies continue to assess all information, but it could very well be that the crown prince had knowledge of this tragic event — maybe he did and maybe he didn’t!" Trump said in the statement, adding that "we may never know" who was responsible.

In New Tactic, Hyde-Smith Tries Apologizing For Hanging Comment

Source: TPM

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — A white Republican U.S. senator from Mississippi said during a debate with her African-American Democratic opponent Tuesday night that she apologizes to people who were offended when she complimented a supporter by saying she would attend a “public hanging” if the supporter invited her.

Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith’s remark was caught on video that was released last week. It has brought widespread criticism both inside and outside Mississippi, a state with a history of racially motivated lynchings.

“For anyone that was offended by my comments, I certainly apologize. There was no ill will, no intent whatsoever in my statement,” Hyde-Smith said Tuesday during a televised debate with Democrat Mike Espy.

The apology was a new approach for Hyde-Smith, who repeatedly refused to answer questions about the hanging comment at a news conference Nov. 12, the day after the publisher of a liberal-leaning news site posted the video on Facebook and Twitter.

U.S. spy agencies sued for records on whether they warned Khashoggi of impending threat of harm

Source: WaPo

The Knight First Amendment Institute on Tuesday sued the U.S. government to learn whether agencies complied with what the institute asserted was a duty to warn journalist Jamal Khashoggi that he faced a threat of harm.

Khashoggi, who lived in Northern Virginia, was killed Oct. 2 by a team of Saudi operatives soon after entering the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul to obtain documents for his impending marriage.

The Columbia University institute is seeking records that relate to any actions taken to warn Khashoggi, a Saudi citizen, under what is known as Directive 191, a government policy that requires agencies to warn individuals of “impending threats of intentional killing, serious bodily injury or kidnapping.”

The lawsuit states that before Khashoggi’s killing, “U.S. intelligence agencies apparently intercepted communications in which Saudi officials discussed a plan to capture Khashoggi.”

Avenatti's Ex-Girlfriend Mareli Miniutti: He Violently Dragged Me Out of Bed, Called Me a F*cking B*

In a restraining order filed Monday, the 24-year-old actress claims the lawyer pummeled her with pillows and violently dragged her out of bed while yelling, "Do not disrespect me."

LOS ANGELES—Stormy Daniels’ lawyer Michael Avenatti violently dragged his ex-girlfriend out of his apartment and called her an “ungrateful bitch,” according to court documents.

Mareli Miniutti also claimed that Avenatti hit her in the face with pillows while he berated her and ranted about how she had disrespected him.

The 24-year-old actress was granted a temporary restraining order, pending a court hearing on December 10, against Avenatti, 47, on Monday. Avenatti was arrested on domestic violence charges related to the alleged incident last week.

In the documents, Miniutti states that she is “afraid that [Avenatti] may cause harm to me and harass me.”

Along with the alleged November 13 assault, Miniutti also claimed the high-profile lawyer was physically violent to her in February 2018. On that occasion, she alleged, he became angry at her after drinking and pushed her into a hallway—where she hit her head—before throwing shoes at her.

Embattled Hyde-Smith posted photo of herself in confederate hat

Source: Politico

Mississippi Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith posed for a photo wearing a confederate soldier's hat and holding a rifle in a Facebook post that surfaced Tuesday.

Hyde-Smith took the photo during a 2014 visit to the Jefferson Davis Home and Presidential Library. "Mississippi history at its best!" Hyde-Smith exclaimed.

Davis was the president of the Confederacy during the Civil War, and his former estate now includes a library and museum in his honor.

"I enjoyed my tour of Beauvoir. The Jefferson Davis Home and Presidential Library located in Biloxi," Hyde-Smith wrote. "This is a must see. Currently on display are artifacts connected to the daily life of the Confederate Soldier including weapons. Mississippi history at its best!"
