demmiblue's JournalSalma Hayek: Harvey Weinstein Is My Monster Too
Source: NYT
For years, he was my monster.
This fall, I was approached by reporters, through different sources, including my dear friend Ashley Judd, to speak about an episode in my life that, although painful, I thought I had made peace with.
I had brainwashed myself into thinking that it was over and that I had survived; I hid from the responsibility to speak out with the excuse that enough people were already involved in shining a light on my monster. I didnt consider my voice important, nor did I think it would make a difference.
In reality, I was trying to save myself the challenge of explaining several things to my loved ones: Why, when I had casually mentioned that I had been bullied like many others by Harvey, I had excluded a couple of details. And why, for so many years, we have been cordial to a man who hurt me so deeply. I had been proud of my capacity for forgiveness, but the mere fact that I was ashamed to describe the details of what I had forgiven made me wonder if that chapter of my life had really been resolved.
When so many women came forward to describe what Harvey had done to them, I had to confront my cowardice and humbly accept that my story, as important as it was to me, was nothing but a drop in an ocean of sorrow and confusion. I felt that by now nobody would care about my pain maybe this was an effect of the many times I was told, especially by Harvey, that I was nobody.

Detroit police to VICE: It'll cost $77,000, take 12 years to fulfill your FOIA
Source: MLive
DETROIT, MI -- If you want records from Detroit police related to officer-involved shootings tracking back to 2010, it won't be easy to come by, VICE News learned during a recent investigation.
In fact, for police-involved shooting records from between 2010 and 2016, the Detroit Law Department, which processes requests for Detroit police, said it would take nearly 12 years and cost $77,000 to produce.
The "Detroit Police Department told VICE News it would take up to 3,120 business days and cost at least $77,532 to retrieve police shooting records that other departments made available online for free," VICE News said in a statement issued Monday, Dec. 11.
VICE News submitted open records requests for police-involved shooting data to the nation's 50 largest departments during its recent nine-month investigation into the topic.

Trump on Alabama: 'I was right' Moore wouldn't be able to win
Source: CNN
CNN)President Donald Trump went back to Twitter Wednesday morning following Alabama's election stunner, claiming that he didn't endorse Republican candidate Roy Moore in the primary election because Trump knew Moore wouldn't be "able to win."
"The reason I originally endorsed Luther Strange (and his numbers went up mightily), is that I said Roy Moore will not be able to win the General Election. I was right! Roy worked hard but the deck was stacked against him!" Trump tweeted early Wednesday morning.
Trump heavily endorsed Strange during the Alabama primary, traveling to the state to campaign alongside him, something Trump never technically did for Moore in the state of Alabama, Instead, Trump held a campaign-style rally in Florida, just over the border and still in the Alabama media market. In the days following the primary in September, multiple tweets in support of Strange were deleted from Trump's Twitter account after his loss.
While the election results came in Tuesday night, Trump tweeted a somewhat conciliatory message, congratulating Democrat Doug Jones on winning "a hard fought victory."

'Feminism' is Merriam-Webster's 2017 word of the year
Source: Politico
Following a year that started with global women's marches and ended with stories of sexual harassment and assault that have brought down powerful men in media, tech, Hollywood and politics, one word has been looked up continually throughout 2017: feminism.
Merriam-Webster announced Tuesday that it's the 2017 word of the year.
No one word can ever encapsulate all the news, events, or stories of a given year, Peter Sokolowski, editor at large for Merriam-Webster, said in a statement. But when we look back at the past twelve months and combine an analysis of words that have been looked up much more frequently than during the previous year along with instances of intense spikes of interest because of news events, we see that one word stands out in both categories."
