Current happenings on the Senate floor: Gillibrand says she gave Manchin a prayer book.

Manchin getting an earful from his colleagues on the floor right now. Whitehouse, Gillibrand, Bennet all taking turns getting their time in. Gillibrand gave him a book and underlined pages for him to read. Bennet working him on child tax credit

Gillibrand says she gave Manchin a prayer book.

“He’s a very faith-driven person so I’m hoping he’ll do some deep thinking over the break”

Manchin is the man of the hour on the Senate floor. Whitehouse talked to him for a while, then Gillibrand, who gave Manchin a book. Bennet told reporters he'd talk to Manchin about the child tax credit, and as soon as Gillibrand left, he grabbed Manchin and began showing charts.

Gillibrand and Booker hovering as Bennet talks to Manchin. They all appear to be having a very intense conversation.

After roughly half an hour of *very* intense conversation, Manchin appears to have gone to a meeting. Bennet seemed to be making some very emotional appeals about the child tax credit.

If you're wondering, I would offer this guess of a vibe check based strictly on body language: there did not seem to be any resolution and no one appeared to leave that conversation happy.

GOP agrees to pay up to $1.6 million of Trump's legal bills in N.Y. probes

Source: WaPo

The Republican Party has agreed to pay up to $1.6 million in legal bills for former president Donald Trump to help him fight investigations into his business practices in New York, according to Republican National Committee members and others briefed on the decision.

The party’s executive committee overwhelmingly approved the payments at a meeting this summer in Nashville, according to four members and others with knowledge of the situation who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe a private meeting of the executive committee.

That means the GOP’s commitment to pay Trump’s personal legal expenses is more than 10 times higher than previously known.

Last month, the GOP said in campaign-finance filings that it had paid Trump’s personal attorneys $121,670 in October. More payments have been made since then. A party official said Thursday that the RNC paid $578,000 in November to attorneys known to be representing both Trump and his businesses.

Rep. Gallego: "Fuck around and find out."

Russian Politician Calls for Kidnapping of U.S. Congressman on Live TV

“This is how we should be dealing with these bastards,” a Russian lawmaker said after advocating for the abduction of Rep. Ruben Gallego over his recent comments on Ukraine.

With tensions between the United States and Russia already at a boiling point, the Kremlin’s extensive propaganda apparatus is throwing more gasoline at the fire.

Appearing on state TV show 60 Minutes on Wednesday, State Duma member and chairman of Russia’s nationalist Rodina party Aleksei Zhuravlyov openly advocated for the abduction and imprisonment of U.S Congressman Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) over comments he made about how to handle the ongoing Ukraine-Russia crisis.

After returning to the United States from his recent trip to Ukraine, Gallego urged the Biden administration to take additional steps to deter further Russian aggression toward its neighbor by sanctioning Russia and arming Ukraine. In his interview from Kyiv on Sunday, Gallego told CNN’s Fredricka Whitfield that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s appetite for another escalation in Ukraine may be tempered only by a harsh military response.

Gallego said that Ukraine should be provided with more advanced weaponry that “will actually put a toll on the Russian troop movements and, you know, unfortunately that means we have to kill some Russians.” He added that Russians “only understand pure power, and we have to give the Ukrainian army and special forces the ability to do that.”

Talks between Manchin and Biden are NOT going well on Build Back Better, per source familiar with talks. A huge sticking point: the Child Tax Credit. Manchin wants it cut. Source says he wants to “zero it out.” They are “very far apart,” source says.

This kills any virtually any hope of getting the bill done by Christmas as Schumer had hoped. Biden and Manchin not close to a deal
